1962 Kodiak is my top Bear. I just got a new red stripe TD and its a very sweet shooter.
Takedown. The '59 kodiak is sweet but does not stack arrows like a takedown.
I have a 63 kodiak dogleg that shoots as good as any bow that I have. It is still like new.
My 1969 Tigercat! I shoot it better than I ever did my Super Kodiak or Kodiak Hunter.

I like em in this order:
1. Custom Kodiak TD wood risers - A Handle
2. A Mag TD with #3 rose oak limbs
3. Super Kodiak
1960 56" Kodiak 51#@28
(http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q291/bjornweb/DSCN2333.jpg)
My best is my greenstripe B with #1 Rose Oak limbs -- 51# at 29".
I have 3 other Bear TDs, and they are all great
/accurate bows, but the greenstripe is the most accurate of the bunch for me.
1964 kodiak magnum, 58 @ 28.
Great lookin setup you got there. I like Kmags but they pinch at my 30" draw. Right now I'm shooting a new Super Grizzly. It is about 61# at my draw length, but is smooth as silk and quiet as a church mouse.
My favorite is my 66 Kodiak, although I like shooting my 56 Kodiak the 66 is the smoothest of them all.
I'm getting the fever for another 1 for sure.
I have a couple of Kodiak Mag's, a Grizzly and a couple of Kodiak Hunters. I like the hunters the best. I've shot a few Super Kodiak's and will get one some day.
60" Super Kodiak :archer2:
I have two 67.5 Super K's. One is 64" and the other 60". Both are 48# and both shoot like a dream.
1-Bear Type1 A riser(by far)
2-all other TDs A and B,till the Green Stripe, never liked later models
3-1967/68/69 Super Kodiak
4-1962 Kodiak
5-1959 Kodiak
I also have a 64" 66 kodiak that I like alot but my goto is always one of my takedowns 62" with RER limbs.
I've got a 1971 Super Kodiak and it's a beautiful bow and a great shooter. I just set up some tapered Surewood shafts I got from Wilderness Custom arrows and they're flying like lazer beams from it. It's 43#@28 inches and probably about 47/47 at my 29" draw.
68 Super Kodiak....obviously haha
My 1964 Zebrawood Grizzly, 45#. FIrst bow I ever shot, and shes still going strong.
1957 Kodiak

1966 bear grizzly. 43# @ 28 sweeeeet
I have a 59 KS I shoot a lot and enjoy it's long nice pulling smooth limbs but recently picked up a 63 K Dogleg and have to admit it's pretty sweet.
I have two 70s both 50# ones k mag and ones kodiak hunter. i like to shoot the kodiak hunter the best.i recently got the k mag and i like it too .i got the k mag for treestand hunting but havent killed with it yet. 2016s at 29 shoot well out of both.
Love my '66s
This is my 64" 50#. It will never leave me. Also have a 60" 50# that is probably going to Manitoba with my this spring.
I love my grizzlies! Just got a Montana very smooth shooter.
I really like shooting my '65 Kodiak, but I also like my '67 Zebrawood Kodiak Hunter, shoots really good but it's hard to beat the looks of that Z-wood.
Just got this '63 Grizzly and it could be a contender to the Tigercat!
Thats some nice looking bears. Thanks for sharing.
My current favorite is my '62 Kodiak. It's fast and can stack arrows like crazy!
The '62 Grizzly with the '65 Kodiak running a close second, but this is subject to change?
also have a '63 Dogleg & '64 Zebra wood Grizz
My favorite years for Bears are 1959 through 1965.
...
my 1968 66in. 48# bearcat shoots better than i can FOSHO
Hands down my 1957 Kodiak...if I ever get it back...Are you out there Doc?
Mine's my '62 Kodiak in 50# but it's not my favorite bow (don't hate me).
I have (3) 1959 Kodiak Specials all 66" 45@28. Very smooth drawing at my 30" draw. Number 2 1960 Kodiak Special Deluxe. Fred had these bows figured out good way back then.
The 67.5 Super K is my current top Bear ! Also love the 57 Kodiak. Early Bears are GREAT performers..(1955-19650.....LOVE EM' ALL....
Love all of my Bear bows...this one is pretty special.
Do we need to choose just one? I have around 200 Bears and it makes it hard to decide.
1954 Bear Grizzly static recurve.
No mention of the '67 Kodiak Hunter?Great bow IMHO.
I have to go with our '64 Kodiaks

I like em all but would have to say my TD A is my favorite bear.
The New Ausable 2011 model.
A 1976 super K for me.
Hands down... It would have to be one of the old Grizzlys!!!!!
Just like the old "workhorse" .30-.30 deer rifles... No nonsense, never fails!!!!!
My 1960 Kodiak has to be by far the best shooting Bear I own!
I'll show some sugar for the Montana. Made me love longbows. Very underrated and over looked bow. Nothing fancy, but completely solid and reliable.
NICE '64's Doug77 I've been watching for a '64 K
Not a Bear collector but my first bowkill deer was with a K-Mag in 1976 so that will be my favorite.Kip
Here's my 63' Grizzly Rich just finished up

64" 66 kodiak love it! Might love my 59 kodiak too if I can ever get it to shoot for me
(http://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx73/buckeyebowhunter/DSC03454-1.jpg)
I'll have to say my Kodiak hunter is my favorite.
Cool Post!! I love the vintage Bears. I've had a '54 Kodiak II(never shot it though) 2'66 Kodiaks,a'58 grizzly a'93 TD Hunter and I now have a '67 Kodiak Hunter. They all shot great. I gotta say though, that the smoothest Bear that I ever shot was Bowdoc's '72(?) Take down.
71 Kodiak Hunter
my current owned favorites
1. 68 Griz
2. 65 Griz
3. 60 Kodiak
4. 68 Tigercat

Thanks again Droptine
Love my Kmag but I have a 1966 Kodiak and it is a sweet shooting bow. Just ordered a new Super Kodiak should be here soon!
Of the three that I have owned, '72 Super Kodiak, 70something Grizzly, and a '69 Kodiak Hunter, I'll have to go with the Hunter. A fine shooting bow.

I just joined the Bear owners association. I bought a 45# '61 mag. It shoots great! It is fun shooting a bow as old as I am.
without a doubt it's my 1960 Kodiak 60" 52#. The 1960 Northwoods quiver is another of my favorites.

Trap
My favorite is the one in the glass case at my local archery shop signed by both Fred Bear and Ted Nugent, I drool over it every time I'm there! My 58" Grizzly has proven to be indestructible through the years of bowfishing. Purchased it new in 2001.

Here's my favorite Bear bow.
60" and 50#

Wow...some beautiful bows shown on this thread!

Favorite 59 Grizzly
I always had a thing for early 70's Grizzly's.
I have a real nice one with green wood and brown glass with a perfect grip. I shoot it pretty well too. :)
I like the hunter 71 .

It's my go to bow
In my opinion, the 1962 Kodiak Special in 63"/66" was the best designed bow to come out of Grayling, with the 63"/66" 1961 Kodiak Special not far behind.
The 1959/60 Kodiak Special is also on the list of finest Bear bows.
Not fair Bob, You only get one choice :readit: :bigsmyl:
Couldnt agree more about the 59/60 Kodiak Specials. I dont have much experience with the 61 and 62 KS's.

I bought a kmag from Big Jim too. 50th anniversary model 45 @ 28. I love it. The grip fits my hands like a glove, and even though its short, I shoot it better than any of my other bows. I was very suprised, going to be my go to hunting bow. So k mag it is for me.
Gotta throw in a vote for the Kodiak Special!
The 1962 40# 66" I got from Bob is the smoothest recurve I've ever put an arrow through.
The only thing I'd replace it with is another KS. I really want a 1959-60 in 68-70", ideally closer to 50#.
I shot the Bear Ausable longbow at the shop. Very nice bow and like it better than the Samick Verna. I would like to try the modern Kodiak hunter replica made by bearpaw.
I have two Grayling made Bears (Kodiak Hunter and Kodiak Magnum) that date to the early 70's. My relative inexperience prevents me from discerning which is better but I take great pleasure from shooting both. As a kid growing up with weekly visits to the local sporting goods store I always admired and coveted the shinny richly colored Bears that hung in the racks. In short, they have always been magical to me.
Really liked my 62 KS so I gave it away...shot my 64 Kodiak better than anything I have ever shot so I sold it...now I am stuck shooting an ordinary old 60 Kodiak (or two)(or three)...check out my old thread 'BH Series 1960 Kodiaks' to see pics...there are few other nice old Bears pictured there as well
