I had my Kansas buck Officially scored by Mr Cecil Reddick in Columbia La. yesterday. My tally was a inch and an 1/8 short. :)
Final tally is 187"!!!!
Here's the original story.
Well let me start off by saying I'm humbly Blessed by the good Lord!
I have trail cam pics of this buck back from 09. Didnt get any of him in 2010. Thought he got killed. I hunted a spot this morning that I had pics of him but I only saw one young buck. At 9:30 I decided to go scout a little knoll that jutted out into a cut bean field. I never hunted this little corner of the farm before because there wasn't much to it. The closer I got to this knoll I realized it was the perfect spot for a buck to bed up. It was only about 3/4 an acre but it was on a high vantage where he could see. It butted up to a CRP field. I knocked an arrow and eased along looking for tines in the grass. I was about half way the knoll to the CRP when I looked ahead and see a Huge Rack coming my way. I crouched down and got ready for a shot opportunity. He strolled up to 20 yards and looked right at me. I thought it's now or never man! I drew and let the string drop and he wheeled and tore otta there! I knew I had hit him so I ran to see where he was and he had stopped on the woods edge across the field. He stood there twitching his tail, then I saw him stumble!!!!
He walked into the edge and flopped down. I took a seat and watched him for an hour. Then I knocked another arrow and eased up on him. He was Done! I dropped to my kness, Thanked the Good Lord with tears streamimg down my face. The buck of a Lifetime and with my Zona recurve to boot. He was 288 pounds on my Moultrie Scale!

Yes sir! After seeing how the knob of trees jutted out into that cut bean field and it was the highest point sloping down on all 3 sides. I felt like it was the perfect place for a big old buck to bed up. So I knocked an arrow and went into stealth mode. :)
NICE!! What an incredible amount of circumstances had to come together for that one!
:clapper:
What a brute! Can only imagine the feeling. Thanks for sharing.
I was SO hoping that you got a "feeling"...to ME...it makes this big buck story PERFECT!!!
INSTINCT is NOT TOTALLY DEAD in modern man...in some of us it is still alive and well.
Congrats yet again, and thanks for sharing your story...many happy returns! :campfire:
Blessed indeed, and from the ground? It does;t get any better than that. Thats a great feeling isn't it! Good for you-way to go, and a beutiful buck
What a brute! Congratulations on an outstanding buck!!!
Wow, what a beauty and as mentioned above, "stalking" on the ground no less. What an incredible accomplishment. I don't think the cliche "there's nowhere to go but up" applies to you! ;)
Congratulations.
That is one stunning whitetail!
Congratulations! Certainly something to be thankful for.
Stupendous Buck! Thats not the buck of a lifetime, thats the buck of ten lifetimes! And shot him from the ground!!!!!!!!!
Congratulations on a monster of a buck! Is the 187 a net score or gross? Just curious, I see the one abnormal point, and wondered if the score included it or after the deduction? Regardless it's an absolute trophy of a lifetime and I in no way am being negative here...

That is his gross score. I never worry about net score. That's P&Y idea that a rack has to be perfect not mine. lol
Thanks for the kind words Sir...
Let's bring this one back up for a second look at his awesomeness.....
That deer is a brute and a cool story as well.

The deer of a lifetime; no, several lifetimes. It would be hard to repeat that scenario in years to come. :notworthy:
He's got another BOONER in his sights.......and he's a HOSS!
I am glad that this thread came back up! What a buck!!! This gets me pumped up for the coming season!!
Always a blessing to get those big boys. Whats better than harvesting a big old buck? I would have cried and gave thanks too. Big congrats on that one and record books are just record books, enjoy the memories.I killed a wopper of a buck years ago before I even knew anything about how special and rare it was to kill such an animal. Now to do it with a bow if I can ever get on another one that big.

Incredible trophy and a great story. Not to many deer like that running around in the Atchafalaya basin. Bet it was worth the trip though!
