Just started shootin 2016 shafts from my boblee recurve.specs 60in rec 53lb at 28in i shoot 3under shafts are fletched with 5in feathers.the setup has a sound when shot like as if you tap your fingernail on the shaft.seems to paper tune fine and bares and fletched shoot fine.maybe i hear this sound because im shootin in my basement and its very quiet .has any of you alum shaft shooters had this sounds of hollow aluminum.can i get some feed back please.
That is a good question, I just started shooting aluminums again 1916's and 2016"s, and have been very thrilled with the quietness ... Someone with more background here will help you..
Are your nocks to tight on the string? and do you see any contact on the shelf or strike plate?
I would check for contact on the bow.
Nocks that snap too tight on the string will cause the "tink" sound when shooting aluminums.
Also make sure your field points are screwed on tightly.I use a bit of teflon tape on mine to keep them snug.
If you're shooting aluminum arrows in your basement, the sound is magnified because the sound is confined to a space where it's bouncing off the walls back to your ears.
Shoot the bow outside and if the sound is loud to your ears upon arrow release, install a pair of yarn wool puffs on the bowstring.
BTW, there is a little more noise upon arrow release when shooting 3 under than with shooting split finger.
I've also experienced this with nocks that are tight on the string and my experience has been that sometimes a brace height adjustment helps - even if you're seeing good flight through paper right now.
iwas shooting 125-145g thought i would bump it up to 175 seems to be quieter. now i need to get out side and try fieldpoints and bhs and see how the 2 impacks are
I had the same experience. It was me I was plucking the string on release. Stopped plucking noise was gone.
I usually get noise from either incorrect brace height or to light of an arrow try to stick close to 9-10 gpi.
draw length is 28 .using a2016 cut to 28 3/4 125gr to 175 gr. bow specs 53lbs at 28 and a sbd bowstring just ordered a 8srtand d10
might be a very slight riser contact......twist up your brace height a 1/4 inch or so..........
