How many have placed their preorders? I just contacted Bill about 2 packs of the 160 grain Kodiaks. Should be ready by April and turkey season. Bill says this run of 500 will decide whether the 160's are continued. Come and get some gang!! :D 4/17/12 They came in at 170 grains  Is it true? Are they really ready? :biglaugh:
I forgot to add, that Bill prefers that you call when you make your order. :D :readit: :bigsmyl:
I'd be glad to order some. What, get his number off the Zipper site?
Yep, that's what I did.
937-444-0904 8a.m.-6p.m. Mom-Sat.
I ordered a pack each of 160 & 200, gotta stay versatile! Checked them out at Kzoo, they're realy putting a nice grind on them now, shoud sharpen up lickedy split.
Eric
Eric, I really like the new grind too. Plus, I know that Bill has done his homework on making all his products a bit better as time goes by. I'd hate to see this particular head disappear.
I believe I will call and order a pack or two of each on Monday, I love these heads.
OK...I'm not with the program yet...on the name change...
I talked directly with Bill a month ago and put in my order for some El Grandes......and they are suposse to be out in April sometime....are 'kodiaks' the new name for the wider ones?
I need to place my order now!
Terry, yes, the old ElGrande is now the Kodiak. 160 & 200 1.25 wide. The small ones are still the Grizzly.
Eric
Thanks...every time I hear Kodiak ...I think of Bear Archer....I actually thought this was a Bear Bow thread when I clicked on it.
Fixed the title :bigsmyl:
Nice fix Mike. I bet ole' Bill will have a good run with the broadheads. they are good and he will make them better I am sure. I may have to give some of them big hole cutters a try.
I will go have a look see.
CTT
Just placed my order.
Me too Terry, but it was the most logical name.Much more fitting than El Grande. Every time I hear that name it makes me want a taco. :D
Thank you Mike for helping spread the word. This should help us get an idea if this weight Kodiak is a keeper or not.
Bill
Bill,
Will you have any in Baltimore, in May?
I am planning to have broadheads at Baltimore.
Bill
Dang Bill, all this new stuff your doing makes me want to make a road trip. Bows, broad heads, etc. I need to take a look at my schedule. ;)
Bill,
Are the 160 Kodiaks you're making left bevel or right? I could some rights and my buddy wants lefts. In either case I'll call on Monday.
Any pics of the new product? ,, Thanks
Hey Pete, Bill will grind left or right, whichever you order. I wonder if he will split the rest of the 500 in this run evenly between left and right bevel?
Mike has it covered!! Thank you!
No pictures just now. Other than the sharpened tanto tip I dont think you would be able to see much differance in a picture.
You know where to find me leatherneck.
Bill
Bill, I'm interested in the 160 grn Kodiak in left wing. When they're ready I'll take some. I'm liking the way the 140's fly and sharpen. I bought the KME. 160's in 1 1/4" should be a good blade for my CO elk hunt.
I placed my pre-order last week for a pack of LW 160 Grizzly's and a pack of LW 160 Kodiak's.
Back up top, I pre-ordered a couple packs today.
Is there a website for these broadheads? Thanks
http://grizzlybroadheads.com/
We are still working on the site.
Bill
Dang, Bill...a new longbow to try out at Baltimore and now broadheads too....you're killing me...and to boot Baltimore is only a few days before my birthday!
DO NOT bring a Ziptstick that is around 45#@26"....
Lee
For people like me who shoot light poundage trad bows, I think doing away with the 160 grain "Kodiak" (formerly El Grande) would be a mistake in my opinion.
For my 42# bow, I like the width of my broadhead to be around 1 3/16" maximum. With my heavy arrow setup, I normally shoot a 1 1/8" wide broadhead which shall remain nameless at this time since it isn't a Grizzly.
OH Lee you know that weight is right in my target area for stock bows! :D See you in a couple of months.
If the 160 grain Kodiak stays or goes is not totally up to me. It will be the popularity of that weight that dictates the broadheads fate. I'm sorry to say but I can not have thousands of dollars wrapped up in a broadhead weight that does not sell.Even if the 160 Kodiak goes away the 160 grain Grizzly is quite popular so that weight head will not go away completely.Althought the Kodiak is larger than the Grizzly.
Bill
Just got through painting the 160 Kodiak's. :goldtooth:
Bill
YEE-HAW! Just started working on my Grizzlys and I have the adapters sitting here ready for the Kodiaks! Thanks Bill for your great products.
do these new heads have the 25 degree angle that Ashby claims is the best.
Yes they do.
Now that is good news Bill !!!
Thanks..
Do these come as a screw in or do you need an adapter?
You'll need an adapter. 11/32". :D Seems like they should be ready real soon!
The paint needed time to harden. They were shipped to Ron on monday morning and should be there today or tomorrow. It is going to take a little while to get them all ground. It's going to be a few weeks yet or maybe a bit more.
I talked to Ron today and he said he has improved the grind even more! :scared: Just a few minutes with the KME broadhead sharpener and then to the leather, and look out!She is scary sharp!
Bill
:jumper: :jumper: :jumper:
;) Looking forward to the new grind. I'm getting the New Zipper Grizzlys really sharp already! Should be even better with the 160 Kodiaks! Thanks Bill.
I was pretty happy with the grind on the last batch. If Ron says they are better then there is no doubt they are even better. This is a perfect example of why Ron is grinding our broadheads.Ron has it going on!
Bill
just ordered my first package of 200gr Grizzly Kodiaks this week... Always said I would shoot Grizzly's if my Ribbies and Snuffers ever went away.
Got a new shipment of Ribbies from Oz last year...and have 4 Snuffers from the Muzzy era left and one from Rothaar era.
I have the 160/190 ribbies...and 160 snuffer so decided to give the big 200gr Grizzly a run this time.
I am expecting good things.....and at their price for 6 heads..if they are anywhere as good as I expect will be the deal of the century in the single bevel market. :clapper:
Shouldn't be long for this batch to be ready!
Ill take 12 left wing 160 Kodiaks please to go on my woodies.Wood bows and wood arrows what a blessing..Aloha Ron
rkeelingjr@yahoo.com
got mine ordered yesterday.
doug77
Does anyone here shoot the 140s? I am shooting 175 grains on my carbons and the 140 gr. Grizzly with a full-length insert would match them perfectly.
Any thoughts?
Newbie here, what's the difference in the Grizzly and the Kodiak and how much do these heads cost. I think I want some, but I don't want to spend huge $$ just for whitetails.
Eagle the 140 grain Grizzly heads are at the brazers now. They use the same thickness steel as the 160 grain Grizzly Kodiak.
Bowman The Grizzly Kodiak is the big brother to the regular Grizzly. The Kodiak version is 3 1/8" long X 1 3/16 wide. The regular Grizzly is 2 3/4" X 1 1/8".
Kodiak's are $34.95 per 6 pack
Grizzly's are $32.95 per 6 pack
Great work Bill!
looking forward to seeing the wider heads.
OK folks, We have a little news about the 160 Kodiak's.Ron has been grinding them and they are 170 grains. I keep calling them 160's out of habit.Since the steel goes all the way across both edges now they are 170 grains.
Ron is grinding the right bevel heads now.As soon as he gets the right bevel heads completed he will send them to us.Then we can get them packaged and out to you while he grinds the left bevel.
Bill
Bump it up for the news! 160 are now 170grain
Sounds good Bill.. I have some arrows made up waiting for those Kodiaks !
After all, hunting season is just over 5 months away...
Bump one more time.
Bill,
Would it be best for me to put in a pre-order for the 140's and then pick them up in Baltimore? Or, should I just wait and purchase them there? Want to do what's best for you. (And still be sure that I get a pack of them. :) )
The old El Grandes were also 170 not 160, at least the 6 I bought from 3R two years ago were. Made no difference to me as with a 75 gr adapter they were real close to my 250 gr. target points. Looking forward to the new ones.
 Waiting fort he LH now.
Any pics or links to pics of these broadheads?
Ooooh, good omen. I weight 170 lbs and my BHs will be 170. So the buck I shoot this fall should score 170. ;)
gvdocholiday,

There is a real good picture of a 160 head on this link.

Pictures.....????? Well yes, as a matter of fact here are a few 170 gr. Kodiaks we ground this morning.
I know everyone's chomping at the bit for these but please bear with us. You may know that I've been sharpening Grizzlies for people privately for a few years now but, there's a heck of a difference between sharpening half a dozen BHDs for someone and putting the original factory grind on thousands of them.
I needed to build a totally new grinder and tooling configuration for this job from scratch. Actually two... Someone mentioned the original run we did for Bill and Tracy for Kzoo. When I think of the rig we used for that, I can hardly believe we pulled it off at all... and I wasn't too thrilled with the grind on those either. :readit:
So immediately after K-zoo, we started building a new set-up. The new machine is much tighter, far more precise, and super-duty. As with any new system there has been quite a bit of tweaking of various components and a whole lot of trouble shooting and diagnosing. I'll spare you the details but we've got all the major bugs worked out and as you can see, the beefed-up grinder is putting out some really nice consistent grinds now. I anticipate that there will be some more minor adjustments to be made as we go along (isn't there always)? In fact, what appeared to be a fairly minor modification yesterday resulted in an important piece of the puzzle falling very nicely into place. I'm planning on shipping the first batch of RH 160 gr. Grizzlies, 170gr. Kodiaks, and 200 gr. Kodiaks by the end of next week. The LH versions should be done shortly after that.
So please be patient with us. :wavey: Thanks!
Ron
Ron, what the weight of the 170 Kodiaks after the grinding process.
thanks

170 grs
Hey folks my internet has been down.
Those are looking great Ron!!!
Eagle lets just wait until Bmore.I have a bunch of the 140's I am snipping the tips on now. They should be ready for heat treat by the end of the week. That usually takes a week. Then they get cleaned and painted. After that they are ready to send to Ron. HOPEFULLY we do not have a repeat of our last shipping night mare.
You are making an outstanding work,I'll be patient, the result is more important than the delivery time!

Ditto
Great job guys on a exelent broadhead
Bill Is it possible to buy these without the tanto tip or unground I wouldn't mind a few this way to do a few experiments with.
Really nice website!
How much do the screw-in adapters weigh, and can you purchase them with the broadheads?
Let's keep this up top until my Left bevel get done! :bigsmyl: Anymore questions or answers to share?
Sharpster,
Will you be at the Baltimore shoot, this year? I bought your broadhead sharpener 2 years ago and like they way they sharpen up the 2 blades - even the curved ones.
I got the knife sharpener for Christmas and would like to see you sharpen these heads and some knives to be sure I am using them properly. I may also need to purchase a new stone or two.
John

Will, Bill told me he would eventually carry adapters both aluminum and steel but won't for some time. Check the dealers page on the Grizzly site most all those companies carry them.
http://www.grizzlybroadheads.com/dealers.html
Bill and Ron the heads are looking great! Ron the Grind looks nice and clean, and will make sharpening so much easier.Nice Work
The wider head is going to work great for a lot of guys as well.
Oops sorry
:wavey: I can wait as long as you can! How much longer for those Left bevels to be done? :dunno: :D
When you put Bill and Ron on the same project, you got some nerdy guys working together who are both pretty perfectionistic! That is a GOOD THING for us consumers!
I've been getting custom ground heads of another vendor from Ron for years... and he never stops improving his setups!
Balding Eagle,
Ron said he's so covered up this Spring with heads to grind...he wasn't sure about B'more, but I hope he can make it.
If not, he'll talk you thru using the knife sharpener for heads. Just use a black felt tip on the edge...then take a few strokes and see where it's hitting and move the adjustment up or down to match the bevel. Works slick... let the stone to the work!
I bought a package of 160's at Kalamazoo. How are these heads compared to the new run of heads?
Doc, Thanks for the info.
Rick, if you purchased at Kalamazoo you have recent broadheads, but Bill told me the grind will improve on the current run. Once you sharpen the ones you have, they will be identical to the current run.
Thanks Larry. I did go out and buy a file and cut it down to fit into my KME knife sharpener to get the grind down.
Yea. I thought it was a thread about a new hybred Bear archery bow.Do the Grizzly heads come in a 160 Grn. Guess I'll have to call that 3 and find out. Thanks for the info
Post stated w/pics! Were are the pics? I must have missed something. :dunno:
Pics page 5 and web links! ;) Grizzly comes in 160 grain, Kodiak comes in 170.
Here are the Grizzly 160's

I was about to order some El Grande heads just before the change, now I'm wondering if the hardness is the same after the retooling. Anyone know the rockwell on the Kodiaks?
Thom

read this page
Whoops I skimmed right over it, thanks TJ!
Time for me to get in line with the rest of ya
You are welcome. I think all the specifications anyone would want to know are there. If not let me know what it is.
I took some time with one last night. Started it on the big file with the KME just to true everything up and then progressively got finer with light pressure. I have never been able to get any other head that sharp.
Nice job on the web site TJ - I am really enjoying the resurgence of the brand. Can't wait to see this batch of Kodiaks.
Those pics make it that much harder to wait. Looking forward to mounting up those Kodiaks and seeing how they compare to the Grizzlys!
Any idea on when the 120-140 grain heads will be available? I'm looking for left wings...
Cookus we have a batch of 130's going to heat treat early next week and just finished punching out a batch of 120's.We should be able to get them to the brazers this week also.
Bill
Bill is it possible to get the Grizzly 160 or Kodiak 200 without the tanto tip?
I shot my new Zipper Grizzly heads today and thought" Why WOULDN'T any one want the tanto tip? Seems like a great way to prevent the tip from curling and increase bone contact damage. Waiting on the Kodiaks to see how the two compare. Very happy with the new grind and the heads mounted true and spin true on the adapters.
Not that I don't like the tanto tip, I would just like it a bit smaller & maybe a slightly different angle so it is less pronounced similar to the images used on the website. You can take metal away but you can't put it back.
 Good point. I can't even spell tanto point without looking it up. Altering metal makes me a bit queasy actually. Wish I had some talent to do those things. That's why I really like these heads. Easy to sharpen, easy to mount, and they fly great. I don't need to be a welder, grinder, or rocket scientist to make them work. :D
Owlbait from the images I've seen so far I'm sure everything you've said about them is spot on . The quality & finish looks superb. I will be ordering some grizzly160 & Kodiak 200 to play with soon.
cant wait to see my 200gr Kodiaks ;)
Lyonel It is to late now. The tanto is applied early in the game.
I am also anxious to get these heads out to you folks. I don't think anyone is looking forward to it as much as Ron. He has been busting his rear getting his equipment perfected to make these heads even better than the last batch. :notworthy:
By the way. THANK YOU ALL FOR BEING SO PATIENT!!!!!!!!! :clapper: I can not tell you how much I appreciate it.
Bill, your and Ron improvement are highly appreciated but this comunity, and hunting season is still too far! :notworthy:
The right bevel 200 Kodiak's, 170 Kodiak's and 160 Grizzly's are on their way to us. :jumper: :jumper: :jumper: As quickly as I can get them packaged up I will send them on to all of you folks that preordered these heads.
Ron is starting on the left bevel heads now.
Bill
Have I thanked you lately for your patience????Regardless I want to say it again.THANK YOU ALL!!!!!
And I want to thank you for keeping them alive!!
:) might have them in a week or two? SWEEEEEEEET!!!
Sounds great, I'm anxious to try and field test a Kodiak or two !!
Appreciate your efforts Bill....
Ron, just sent a pic of a Kodiak 200 after the grind on the scale.
Bill are all the 160 grizzly & 200 kodiaks spoken for,if not I wouldn't mind a couple dozen of each.
Lyonel,I have plenty of 160 Grizzly's available, but not many 200 Kodiak's. I'm quite sure I do have a few dozen 200 Kodiak's left. Most of the heads that were lost in shipping were 200 Kodiak's. That figures since they are our most popular head and also the most expensive for us to produce. We only have right bevel heads on the way to us now. The left bevel heads will be picked up at the Baltimore Bowmen shoot in a couple of weeks.Lord willing!
I will be taking another batch of 200's to the brazer on monday. There is also a large batch of 120 grain Grizzly's going.
130 grain Grizzly's and more 170 grain Kodiak's are at heat treat now. You guys have saved the 170!
Do I order through you Bill? What will the 4 dozen & freight to Australia cost?
keep an eye on fleabay for those "missing" broadheads....hate a thief!
You all have sold me. The 170 Kodiak is on my shortlist to try. I'll definetly have to try a set when the ordering comes online.
Lyonel I need your address to figure the shipping. You have a pm.
Keep bumping for my left bevel Kodiaks! :bigsmyl: :p :wavey:
Hope you have some left by Denton Hill! Looks like they're going great for you!
Glenn
WOW! now that is a grind..awesome heads! Hog Shield Smoker right there.. good luck Ron
just placed my order! cant wait
:jumper: :jumper: They are here!!!! :jumper: :jumper:
OH BULLS! :D EYE. :clapper:
Can't wait to get my 160 grizzly's & Kodiaks!!
Looking forward to getting my hands on them.
Spoke with Bill yesterday, ordered some 160 Grizzlys, and a new SXT Riser !!!!
Is it true? Are they REALLY ready to go? Thanks Bill for getting these back on the market. Looking forward to seeing them in my quiver! :clapper:
Most of the right bevel preorders will be going out monday.
Bill
Bill, any date for the left bevels?
Ron is planning to bring the left bevel 200 and 170 Kodiak's and left bevel 160 Grizzly's to the Baltimore Bowemen shoot next weekend.
I'll be taking him 130 Grizzly's and another batch of 170 Kodiak's.
Bill, please save me 2 doz of the Kodiaks as on my preorder, left bevel.
Got it, Felix.
Thanks Bill
are the right bevel 120's and 130's done yet I would like to order some of each

Received my 200gr Right Bevels today...trying to learn how to put an edge on one using a Lansky sharpener on the 25* bevel....wish me luck.
It will go alot quicker if you dont try to hone the entire 25 degree bevel. I only hone the edge that will be doing the cutting.

Brock,
If you need any help give me a call, or better yet come on up to the Baltimore shoot this weekend and I'll show you how to do it in person. You can even bring your Lansky.
Ron
I wish I was going to Baltimore...too busy at work to take Friday off. I may break down and buy the KME if I cant get it done with my 120, 280, and 600 stones...
what angle are you guys sharpening...sticking with 25* like the grind...or raising it to 30 or lowering to 20 degrees to just get the edge?
Wow!
I just got mine in the mail today and I have just two words for Bill and Ron - Thank You. I really like the improvement to the ferrule, mounting them straight is a snap, and they get scary sharp in just a few minutes. The blade going completely to the other side looks like it will improve the strength of the broadhead. Thank you both again, keeping this in production and the improvements you have made are greatly appreciated.
okay....got KME broadhead today. Couple questions---
1. Are you still going back and forth 15-20 strokes on coarse stone to ensure bevel or is that skippable with the new grind
2. Kodiaks are much wider than the provided stones...did I waste my money on those stones...should I have just gone and bought my own course and medium stones..or a medium and fine stone that is wider and such
3. Do you run your strokes forward only on medium grind
4. Do you run as much as will fit on stone a few times and then adjust over to run rest of blade on stone equal amount to cover whole blade....i tried that and also making an arc on stone but stones too small and heads too long to do it consistently...ideas or am i over thinking it
finally started to get an edge but not scare sharp at all.... who is going to do the first video of using KME on Grizzly Kodiak 200 on the included stones from out the pack until sharp...with no breaks? About ready to pull out my raw Ribteks and sharpen them just to prove I know how and get some confidence back. LOL
Also...on some of the heads the edges are pretty uneven...guessing those need the coarse stone to clean everything up?
Brock, Video's will be coming but it is going to take some time. For now Ron is writing up a very clear step by step description of sharpening these heads.Ron has explained this so many times he knows exactly how to get the point across. Give him a call and he will have you shaving hair in no time.
The uneven edge you are speaking of is likely the thin burr. It is so very thin it will often come off on its own just from the head being handled or shipped. That will make the edge look uneven but it is not. The actual edge under the burr will be strait. You should be able to see it once the burr is removed.
Bill
Brock,
If you'll please call me, I'll walk you through sharpening one right on the phone,
Ron

So, have the 170 Kodiaks been shipped?
All preorders have been shipped. If they dont show by monday. Give me a holler.
Bill
Thanks Bill, I'll keep my eyes peeled.
Had the opportunity to see the 160's 170's, and 200's at the BBTC, last weekend. They look GREAT! I liked the old ones and these are even better.
I also had the privilege to sit and watch Sharpster tutor an Englister how to sharpen both his knife and the Grizzly. I had been doing it ALMOST right, but the extra info I got should help me to get my broadheads and knives as sharp as I can possibly make them. He even had the Englishman putting a nice edge on both. If he can do it - we all can.
I can't wait to get my hands and KME sharpeners on the new 140's. (And hopefully, one into/through a deer!)
John
Bill, Monday is a HOLIDAY! :D
Thanks for the heads up Bill !!!Ill
Owlbait, you know if its not Christmas or Tracy's birthday it does not count! :p Gonna half to have a talk with the postmaster general.
Bill
Bill, Got mine today. They do look good. I was shooting some of the 1st batch in to my foam target, I'm getting a 1/4 twist going in, pulls out slick watching it twist back is kinda neat..
Bob
Omitt please
We are easily amused arent we Bob. :D
One thing I am still struggling with is the paint. I have not found a paint that will hold up. This last batch of heads are the ones that broke the camels back. I'm looking into Teflon coating these heads. The Teflon coating is much more durable and should be the final link to make these heads first rate.Ofcourse Teflon coating is a bit more money than paint but I feel its worth it.
Bill
Opened my package from Tracy at 715!!
at 724 I had a crazy sharp Grizzly 160 into my block target!! Thank you Bill and Tracy!!
I think the Teflon would be the finishing touch as well and I would not hesitate to spend 10-15 more dollars for it.
I'm glad you are happy with your new Grizzly's, Tyler. I agree Teflon seems to be the best answer to this issue.Luckily Teflon coating will not add nearly that much to the price.

will give you a call Friday or next week if I have time...luckily I got a couple months until season opens 15 Aug.
Without pictures, these are all just stories.
pictures to come tomorrow. I was able to arrow a problem red squirell as well as strop the heads several different ways, all with very good results!

Bill
How about trying Cerakote Bill?
Went to grizzly site but the buy it now dont work Help??
Thanks Gil, I'll check into that.
Lonala, Once we have a good stock of heads the buy now buttons will go hot. For now any heads that are not preordered dont last long enough to make the buttons hot.I just sent quite a few 200 and 160 grain heads to our dealers.
Bill
called and talked to Ron today and got some specific pointers and found a few things out....
with his recommendations I was able to get the head I worked on the past few days to no avail sharp enough to shave hair...but not sharp enough yet but guessing I needed more work on that one as I had done so much already. Going to try a fresh blade after I do the second side.
another thing.... Anyone want to buy a brand new KME broadhead sharpener? For what I paid through 3 Rivers...just 5 days ago.
Talked to Ron and I dont need it and actually my Lansky fits the large 200 Kodiaks better due to their length...pretty good when manufacturer tells you to just use my Lansky for the biggest of the blades due to their length and such. Also says if you have the 200gr heads...then he recommends the KME knife sharpener over the broadhead version because of the control and length of stroke needed to work on the big heads.
Thanks Ron for your help...will call you next week again to cover any points I might have after trying a couple more but so far so good.
After I get these Grizzly 200gr done up the way I want them...will try one of my Ribtek 190 heads or a 160gr head and see how it works on those. I usually just use a file for them and then touch up with a carbide sharpener....but who knows. LOL
SUCCESS!!!!!!!!!!
Went through and tried another tonight...and hair shaving sharp in just a few minutes. Did not do any others as I need to get some arrows ready to mount them...too sharp to leave laying around. LOL
Thanks Ron....and all.
Just got my new 170 gr. Kodiaks,Wow what a head, should be great Moose and Elk weapons.I never had a problem sharpening the old grizzlys ,these should be a cinch!
The following is the reply Ron sent me when I had asked his advice on using the KME broadhead sharpening jig and sandpaper. I hope it helps some of you.
Hi Rustam,
Yes there's a slightly different procedure for sharpening single bevels. It's actually pretty easy once you understand the process and do a couple successfully.
The most important thing is: Don't leave the 60 grit till you have raised a burr the entire length of the BHD. This is where 90% of the job is done. Finer grits only polish and refine the cutting edge created with the coarsest grit.
Using the grits you mentioned, I would start removing the burr at the 400 grit stage. Don't over-do it, just a few swipes on the unbeveled side to clear the burr. You will feel resistance and an aggressive cutting "feel" on your first couple of strokes which will diminish as the burr is taken down. Then check the bevel side with your fingernail for a tiny burr just behind the cutting edge. Now lightly remove that new burr with just 1 or 2 very light into the edge passes.
Advance to your 600 grit. Polish (back/forth strokes) the bevel side till you've raised another tiny micro burr on the unbeveled side, then rotate the clamp and clear it again with all into the edge strokes, and be sure to go very lightly. Follow this same routine with every grit after 400.
I would go to 1000 grit at least and 2000 is better. Whatever grit you end with, finish up just as though it was a double bevel... 1 into the edge pass on the bevel side, then 1 into the edge pass on the unbeveled side, repeat. Do this about 10-12 passes total, decreasing pressure with each pass. The idea is not to allow a burr to build up on either side of the blade. The blade should be very sharp at this point
Then using all backward- away from the edge strokes, strop both sides of the blade on a piece of leather or better yet corrugated cardboard. (a large flap off of a cardboard box works great). Again finish up stropping with alternating passes: bevel side, unbeveled side... about 8-10 total. The hair should come off your arm pretty effortlessly.
One more note: If you soak the paper for a couple of minutes prior to laying it on the glass, it will "stick" tight to the glass when you smooth it out and you won't need to hold it down. (you can also tuck both ends of the sheet under the edges of the glass after smoothing it out). Let me know how you it goes. Thanks!
Ron
What the best adapter for these heads? Does Grizzly make their own or will you need to buy an after market adapter? Also is an aluminum adapter ok, or do you need a steel one.
Thanks
Charlie
Sorry for the double post!
I got my 170's earlier in the week.. A couple of months back I got some 160's from one of the TG vendors.. While I really liked the 160's I much prefer the wider 170's..
Ron, thank you very much for making them.. I also agree that a different paint or finish would be nice..
Great broadheads..
The aluminum adapters will work.
Ron demoed the way to sharpen a grizzly, last week. He really educated me and a couple of others on how to properly use the different grades of stone. He definitely did almost all of the work on both broadheads and knives with the course stone. He really did emphasize that the other stones will only polish the edge - whether it is sharp or dull. Get it SHARP with the course, then move along to the other stones to polish it off.
Thanks Bill, Tracy, Ron. Heck I guess the whole Grizzly broadhead team. The 170 Kodiaks arrived yesterday and are being prepped for inserts. Great product!
Got mine yesterday also.
Same here.
I called last week to order some 160's and have been excited to get them. I also picked up a kme broadhead sharpener this week.
I was very disappointed when i opened them and and seen they weren't what i ordered and they sent me the wrong heads. I was ready to sharpen them and plysee with ythe kme and see what all the fuss was about. I have no doubt they will make the order right but no sharpening and shooting for me yet (grin)
I have you down for 160 right bevel heads. Is that not what you got?You are correct in assuming we will take care of it if they are incorrect.
Interesting way to find out there may be an issue. The first step should be to call the folks you got them from.
Bill
Someone must have grabbed left bevels when they packaged them. I don't want you, or anyone else to think that I'm complaining about service with my posts as thats not the case because I hadnt called and didnt expect to get ahold of anybody over the weekend. I know stuff happens. They sure do look good though and i can't wait to use them!
I'll box up your right bevel heads now and send them tuesday. I apologize for the mix up.
I spent most of one day last week boxing up heads for orders as well as to send to our dealers. I just hope this is the only mix up.Thanks for understanding Brad.
Bill
I understand completely how it goes when shipping large numbers of orders.
I did it off here but also figured I owed an open apology as well for my post about not getting the right heads. I see where it could viewed as negative and I'm truly sorry for that. I really should have waited until this week to get ahold of them and not put it up in the open like I did. Sincerely, Brad Arnett.
Awesome!!! Thats all I can think of at the moment. Got home today and had some broadheads waiting. I put them in the KME and just a minute or so on my coarse diamond removed the machining marks. Switched to a fine arkansas real quick to polish a little and then a few strops on cardboard had them VERY sharp. Can't wait to see how they do. I'll shoot them tomorrow if ever stops raining here.

Ditto
Finishing with light strokes, a coarse stone will make'em shave. THEN move on to the finer polishing.

I have shot dozens of times with my 160's so far, and am very impressed. They shoot perfectly in line with my bareshafts and touch up great...
My setup is Zipper Extreme, 60'' 52@28
Beeman MFX 500, 29.75'' 50 gr. insert, footed with 2'' of 2016.. Grizzly 160 right wing... weighing in at 597 grains... Chronographed in my shop today at 189 fps.

I also tested the grizzlies vs. several other heads of equivalent weight on plywood, textbooks, and coconuts. Not saying they prove anything... but sure is fun :biglaugh:
I did some testing last week.200 gr Kodiaks,KME sharpened. (http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a140/jbrandenburg/IMG_9338.jpg)

 those are some impressive numbers
they are smoking limbs...... I had to re check myself and took the chronograph out of our indoor range (which has poor lighting and can affect reading some) and shot outside with better light today. The same setup was more consistent at 177-182 fps. Still great in my book.
Whew... thats more like it, still Great performance though.
My chrono is the same way, it has to be out in the sun or it doesn't read right, even being in the shade throws it off.
What chrono are you guys running? I run a pact pro xp with the IR screens and it rocks. I've never had any issues with it regardless of weather conditions.

Dont give it another thought, Brad!
Great looking bear Jim!Congrats!! Do you mind if we use that picture on the Grizzly site?
Babs, take your time and figure out exactly what you need. The braodhead offer does not expire. Thank you for bidding on the heads so generously.
Will someone have the new grizzlies available for purchase in 160 and kodiaks in 170 and 200 at ETAR?
"Great looking bear Jim!Congrats!! Do you mind if we use that picture on the Grizzly site?"
Yes,of course Bill.I tried to email it to you but was having trouble so posted it here. The shot was a pass through from a 50# bow.Lots of blood, both sides. You are looking at the entry.Northern Saskatchewan.
thanks bill cant wait to put these heads in a whitetail this year
Michael, Any heads we have availalbe will be at Denton. At this point I can not say exactly which heads that will be.We have all the sizes and weights somehere in the production process.
I mounted up a dozen Grizzlies this weekend and they spun up true relatively easily on my steel adaptors and CE Heritage shafts. I touched up the edges with my KME knife sharpener quickly. Just enough sharpening to satisfy my "sharpening urges". I'm not impressed with the paint job on them but that's not a big deal. I agree that teflon coating may be the way to go and certainly would be willing to pay a slight upcharge for it. I was able to test shoot a couple Sunday afternoon and they flew perfectly out to 30 yards with my 59# longbow. Excellent broadhead at a reasonable price. I really appreciate Zipper for saving and improving on the design and construction of one of the best broadheads ever made.
