Post by: Andy Cooper on February 16, 2012, 10:05:00 AM
Anyone dipping their arrows in a dip tube with the Wipe On poly? Yes? No? Maybe so?

Thanks,

Andy

No, just wipe it on; like keeping things simple.

How many coats do you wipe on?

Wipe on.  5 or 6 coats.  scuff with steel wool (0000) between coats.  I do the same with tung oil.  I just use one of those blue shop towels you find at the auto parts store.

I use 3 coats of the regular poly when dipping..1 coat, then crest, then 2 more coats. It is much thicker than the wipe on stuff, though.

After staining, I always hand rubbed in 3-4 coats of Minwax Poly, lightly sanding between coats. I made sure my woodies were protected from wet weather.

I use between 4-6 coats of wipe on poly depending on wood species and how well the shafts take the poly when applied with each coat.
