Title: My Trad Journey in the Last Month
Post by: huskyarcher on February 14, 2012, 07:20:00 PM
Well guys, this past month has been the most growth ive ever had, archery related. This whole story has to start way back in November when i worked out a deal with our very on Dannybow (Dan Albright) on a Howatt Hi-Speed that needed some help.

Well at the time, Christmas was coming up and things were slow around here. I explained the situation to Mr. Dan, and he was nothing but nice, he explained that there was no need to worry about it, just pay him when i could, there was no rush at all. Well needless to say, i was very humbled by this act of generosity and kindness, and agreed. Well, a week later, not only did the Howwatt show up, I opened a box to find my bow, 14 carbon xpress Terminaters, points of various grains, limb covers, a quiver, broadheads, and snakeskins. Unbelievable, absolutely unbeleivable.   :readit:    :goldtooth:

As you can see the finish on the old girl was less than perfect. But, that was part of the deal, he wanted to see me finish my first bow.

Well about a week after this pic, Dan informs me that the bow is a gift, not to worry about the payment, that my excitement was well worth it. What a guy, shows what kind of men and women call this site home. I just hope i could do someone half as good as hes done me. Thank you again Dan, I look forward to chasing turkeys this spring with you.

So after several nights of work, i got he finish on. shortly after came the skins. I am tickled to death with how this project finished up. It has worked out beyond my expectations.

When i fineshed the bow, i also worked on a little something for Dan. Some of you may remember my emotional post about Grandpa Clemmon, He was my mentor and truely one of my best friends. On the day of his funeral i was blessed enough to take a button buck (his favorite) meer chance? i doubt it. At that point i hadnt figured out photobucket, so that is where i met Dan, he posted my pics for me. This story helped him as well, so it was a very special deer in many ways.

So i tanned the hide, not knowing what i would do with it, i just knew i needed to preserve this memory. Well it hit me,  it was for Dan. This is on the way to his house at the moment

Some of the pics distort the color of the skins for some reason the look a little bueish.

So, im going on my first Hog hunt in March with Mr. Jim Dussias (Tarponnut) This is my Huckleberry. i have worn her out lately, just getting myself ready for "Makin Bacon Baby"

I found these old Gamegetters in my freinds basement, and decided to refletch them and try them out.

I got suckeered into using "fletch tape" and didnt really expect much, but thought id try it.

If you havent switched, DO IT NOW. SOooooo much easier than glue. I didnt even use a jig for these and i think there awesome, check out the helical,

I have really worked on my form as of late, Wtih the "form clock" and back tension my groups have REALLY shrunk.

Also, i suffered from target panic really bad, so i have started making sure i hold long enough to whisper "Father, Son, Holy Ghost." This was the result today at 15 yards,

So this last little bit has really changed me. I cannot wait to try it all out on a hog   :readit:    :bigsmyl:

I hope you have enjoyed my journey. I sure have, and its ALL thanks to TRADGANG, none of it was  possibe without it. Everything i learn is from here. Also a HUGE thanks to Mr. Dannybows agian, i cant thank you enough.

Thanks for looking and "Happy Valentines Day", my true love are sticks and strings

Good job.
You're right.  Some good folks visit here.  It's also more fun to share certain experiences with others than to keep it to yourself.

Good luck

Well Dalton, there's no doubt that Howatt has found a loving home! Excellent job on the bow and I see from the classifieds that you have caught the 'Bow Finishin' Bug'. Well Done!

That quiver is beautiful and I'll cherish it. I know that Deer hide is very special to you. Thank You for such a meaningful gift.

Good Luck chasing the Hogs. Take plenty of pics and don't forget to share the hunt with us!

Good Shootin'!

Hey Dalton, I just noticed those pretty pink silencers. I was baffled as to where you came up with them at first, then I remembered the rabbit strips I sent for tracers. Never thought about using them for that, cool! You won't have to worry about misplacing that bow in the woods. Lol!

I forgot to mention that the bow now has 'Big Mojo' for you. When you put your heart into bringing a bow back to her original beauty you share a bit of her 'Soul'.

Keep up the practice though, you don't want to push the Mojo too much!    :bigsmyl:

Dalton,

You have begun a journey that will help define who you are as a man.  Taking game with traditional gear is an accomplishment unlike using a shotgun or rifle.  It requires more practice and patience, and the reward is much sweeter.

If you "listen", you will find ways to pay it forward to return the generosity you have been shown.  Sharing your experiences with the other menmbers of Trad Gang is one way to repay this generosity.  Good luck with the pig hunting and be sure to take pictures of the people, the terrain, and the wildlife, whether you get a pig or not.  Please share the experience with your brothers and sisters at Trad Gang!

Dalton,

Looking forward to the hunt in March. You should be able to "introduce" that Howatt(or at least the arrows) to some Florida pigs.
These hogs are tangerine, orange, grapefruit, and corn fed for ya,lol!

I love the "father, son, holy ghost" count.  I'm not overly religious, but my shooting could use a little divine intervention now and then.  Good story.  Lot's of good people here.  I've only met a few in my short time here, but all have been awesome!

It is rewarding to see a Young Man that GET'S IT!!

Not hard to see why You were given the bow as a gift from DannyBows. Not only taking care of a project from start to finish. But also returning a special gift to show Your gratitude.

I hope You have success on Your hog hunt. It would take this story one notch higher. Good luck.
