Anybody ever use these?
http://steppups.com/
Even if you haven't, I would be interested in your thoughts on safety and your thoughts of these instead of climbing sticks for loc-on setup after you watch the videos. Seems to me WITH A LITTLE PRACTICE they would be great. Probably a tad lighter than lone wolf sticks
I picked up a set a while back. Work well with a little practice. Rock solid and a nice wide platorm compared to steps. They do chew up the bark some. If you decide to go with them I don't use mine anymore so....
PM send PV. Why don't you use them anymore?
I had some, still have a few. I used them all the time for a couple of years. Bought the Lone Wolf sticks and quit using the Stepps. They are not bad to use and with practice are pretty quick to set up and take down. I sometimes still use one or two with the Sticks to gain a little extra height if needed.
Jim's a super guy..Nam Vet.Lost a leg and needed something he could stand on with ONE good leg to install another step.
I passed cause you have to tie them...besides being sharpening impaired (before KME) I am also Knott Challenged! I couldn't convince myself I'd tie a good knot in the dark and not end up doing a Peter Pan immitation!
Doc, you have a PM.
Anybody have some that they would like to sell?
Last I herd Mr. Stepp still had some inventory he was selling off. Im trying to track down his e-mail for ya. Ive got it somewhere.
Thanks
Boswell
Thanks Bos

Except for the still using a couple now and then that is my story.
That is a neat looking tree step!!
Anybody else have some for sale, I want to collect them! lol
Anybody else?
Does he not make them anymore??
From what I understand he does not make them anymore
I emailed Mr Stepp two weeks ago and got an interresting response. You can still get them but you have to attach the ropes the steps yourself and you have to sign a waiver before he will sell them to you. At one time, LL Bean had picked them up but its not the case now.
I just ordered a set look like just the ticket to me. Mr. Stepp has been using them for 20 years. You do have to install the ropes its very easy. Yes you do have to sign a waiver but if you watch the videos there bomb proof. I will let know how they work after i get a chance to test them. TD.
I have some coming and will more than likely get more.
I'd also like to have Jim's email. I lost one from my set. Left it under a tree after dark I guess.
I've had a set for years and have found nothing I like better for really gnarly trees. I've started using the rapid rails because they are quicker but honestly, I think the rails are a bit of a pin to maneuver quietly while hanging off the side of the tree. The Stepps can be handled and installed completely in front of your face or chest while standing comfortably on two feet at the same level.
The other big plus about them is the color. there isn't another step, ladder or rail made that blends in better on the tree.
Here's a typical setup photo. Notice the lack of black web straps. I HATE THOSE THINGS!

I was looking for some of these to go with a Guido web as a top extra step/platform, may I ask what the cost of a set is, and how many stepps per set?
x2 on cost
That's an awesome set man. As far as the price, I'm not sure yet. I THINK they sold somewhere between $8-$10 a step but not 100% sure. This is only what I have been told.
I have some used ones coming and I will decide whether to get more once I have had a chance to play with them a little. I may have a bunch of climbing sticks for sale soon. lol
They don't weigh much less, but the packability seems great.
Except for when I use my climber the Stepp Ladder is all I use. I tried the Lone Wolf steps but I couldn't get used to them, seemed like I needed another hand to get them hung, and I had to keep climbing down to get another section. With the Stepp Ladder I can put the steps on as I go up the tree and carrying the stand on my back, once I'm up I'm up. Traded my Lone Wolf ones for more Stepps. Plus, Jim is a great guy.
I have two sets, just need to get a lock on stand that will not cost me an arm and a leg for shipping all the way to Guam. May just get a Guidos web and be done with it,LOL, These steps are some of the best I have seen, seem to be very solid and safe.
Just got an e-mail from Jim, he does have "some" and they are $99 for 12 steps and the bag PLUS shipping which varies depending on where you are.
You have to sign a disclaimer before he will sell them to you.
I have an idea on how to secure them (except for the bottom 4) with chains for semi-permanent installations so the squirrels won't chew throgh the ropes. I think I will like it.
The e-mail and number that I have for Mr. Stepp is jstepp@maine.rr.com his phone is 207-655-4443
Thanks
Boswell
Thanks Boswell for that info.
awbowman,
That price is about $20 less than what I paid for my set of 12 8 or 10 years ago.
As for the squirrels, I don't think you need to worry about that. I've never had a problem.
Do you plan to leave them out for months or weeks at a time?

Don't plan to leave them out at all if I can't rig them with chains. I have had friends fall from loc-ons where the squirrel had chewed on the straps. Scares the crap out of me.
