Title: Ok, I'm Getting AD Traditionals, got a Question?
Post by: Suty on July 23, 2007, 09:58:00 PM
Gang, I am going to get a Dozen AD Trads from Joe Skipp. I have been shoot'n Gold Tips and here's where I am at. I had shot 31" Gold Tip Trads with 100grn brass inserts and 150 grn Woodmans at the tip. I wrapped the tail(for looks)and used 3 5.5"Highback Shield Cut feathers. Seemed to shoot great out of my Recurve. When I bought my Toelke Whip ,Dan told me to cut them to 29.5 lose the Brass Insert replace it with a Weight Tube and continue to use 150 grn Broadhead......All you AD owners where should I start now ? Weighted Tips ok or tubes ? You have seen where I've been, I like Heavy Arrows and I would like them to be shot from both Bows. Any Advice would be appreciated. My Bows are a 56# Whip and a 54# Scopion Recurve.  Cazadores de Tejas, Suty

If you can find the brass inserts for the ADs...go that route.  My experience with them is that their spines (both static and dynamic) are quite stiff...stiffer than you'd think would tune, but there must be something about the taper that allows that tune to happen.  They are very forgiving and don't seem to mind large tip weight swings as much as parallel carbon shafting.  Weight tubes are pure hassle....they mess with spine in mysterious ways and have made many an arrow too finicky for me.  I gave up on them long ago in my wheelie days.  You'll note that many of the leaders in "our" version of the sport (Bob Morrison, Ron LeClair, and others) have done a lot of research and seem to be advocating high FOC/tip weighting if it's heavy you're after.  My .02 FWIW and YMMV.

Rob and Charlie, Thanks! I will talk to Joe about the inserts, as well as inserts for the nocks. Tu Compadre, Suty
