I'm moving to the Sparta/La Crosse WI area this spring. Are any of you from the area? I'm hoping to find some good people to shoot/hunt with. It looks like a nice area, and this displaced Mainer is ready for a real winter.
There are several members and lurkers living in and around that area. Wish I did.
It is a beautiful area with lots of public access areas to hunt and fish. Lotsa deer and turkeys and even bear, wolf and cougar, although the DNR will deny it vehemently. Can't hunt the latter critters, not there at least.
There will likely be a trad shoot again this spring, probably pretty early spring, at the Sparta Sportmans club. Also look at joining the Wisconsin Traditional Archers, the State entity.

Josh - We live about a half hour south of La Crosse and Sparta. It's some beautiful country! Sparta is having a traditional shoot on the weekend of April 28th if you're in the area by then.

I am a hour west of lacrosse! We have a trad shoot every year and also have the footed shaft in town here!Pm me if you ever want to come over and shoot!
Dwyer Longbows are made in nearby Holmen, and I think RER bows are near there also.
Pretty area, you are lucky brother.
Great Area!!!!! Plenty of opportunities!
Good luck.
we have a farm about 45 minutes east of Lacrosse although I dont make it there much! Its squirrel hunting at its best!
I hunt in tomah which is about ten minutes away from sparta. great hunting, haven't seen any wolves yet but i believe that they're there. Mine as well give into the inevitable and place an order with RER and Dwyer now !
Yep, lots of Trad Gangers around. The Sparta shoot is one of the first of the season, and a good one. During the summer you'll find plenty of traditional only shoots all around the state. As Chuck mentioned, join Wisconsin Tradtional Archers and get to some of the shoots - you'll find plenty of new friends!
I believe the Sparta trad shoot is at the end of April at the Sparta Rod and Gun club. Nice course.
Welcome to Wisconsin. Joe beat me to it, but I will say it again anyway. Join the Wisconsin Traditional Archers. We have a forum here on TG (Wisconsin). I hope to see you at some shoots this summer.
Thanks guys, I woke up this morning to see if anyone had posted and never thought that I'd have this many responses. I won't be there in time for the April shoot, but I'll definitely join Wisconsin Traditional Archers. I look forward to meeting all of you almost as much as I look forward to getting out of the Northern VA/DC mess and get back to some real country living. Thanks for the heads up youngarcher1, I'll start putting a little aside each week so the boss doesn't notice!
Josh, welcome.I live in Tomah, and yep you will like being around like minded folks in the WTA also.

Hey there..I'm just a little more than an hour drive right up 94 to Menomonie..about an hour East of the Twin Cities..always looking for new friends.
Welcome! :wavey:
Welcome to WI !
Yeap...... bring a cooler full of beer to a shoot and you'll make friends real fast!
Good group of guys throughout the state that travel well to all the shoots, looking forward to meeting up with ya!
:archer2:
Funny, when I left WI for the Army in 85 I knew of only one other tradbow guy, and nearly everybody I knew bowhunted. You are lucky, that part of the state is still great hunting.
Mike. there are quite a number of trad folks here in WI. and I think the number is growing too. Most are pretty friendly folk.
There will be a selfbow jamboree nearby in Black River Falls May 5 & 6 to think about, if you are here in time.
Course that hint about bringing the beer is right on (hint).
