I have been saving and am wanting to hunt Dall sheep and caribou in the mountains. Who is a good guide? What areas in Alaska should I look at?
Sorry to say I have no info for you ... just wanted to say best of luck in your awesome adventure!!! Sure hope to see a thread someday with you grinning over a beautiful ram and bou!!!
There are no Mountain Caribou in Alaska. You are going to have to go to BC, NWT, or the Yukon if you truly want a Mountain Caribou.
On the other hand, you definitely CAN go to Alaska and kill both a Dall ram and a caribou which lives in the mountains. If you want a supposed "true" mountain caribou, you'll have to visit our northern neighbors and drop some serious extra money there.
Either way...heck of an adventure!
Thanks guys that is what I am wanting to be able to hunt sheep and caribou in the mountains. I should change the tile.
When is the best time to be there to spot and stalk caribou in the mountains?
If you're sheep hunting in Alaska you'll be accompanied by a registered guide. Most likely they'll tell you to focus on the sheep, and hope for the caribou. I don't think there's a "best" time for stalking those resident mountain 'bou. They're up there all summer and throughout the sheep season.
Can't help you at all, but I wish you the best of luck. A sheep hunt is my dream hunt.
