I was putting together a few things for the upcoming Wensel "Texas Pig Gig" and just noticed how much of what I am taking into the field came from TG sponsors:
Art Vincent is building me an "Art Deco" version of the Powderhorn Stalker side quiver.
VPA 2 and 3 blade broadheads
Feathers from 3Rivers (with my own "Fred Bear burned shape" applied)
A custom Pig Gig arrow wrap made by Onestringer Arrow Wraps that I designed.
Toss in my Tall Tines recurve and Classic Bowman jacket and you have a pretty good list... TG is the place to be.

Oh, forgot to mention that I always take my Bisongear pack along too . . . the list keeps going.
Now that is going in style.
Mighty fine rig, is that one of LaClairs Longhunter knives on the bench?
Eric
Not sure Eric, could be. Art Vincent sent me a "works in progress" photo. Art makes the Mantis model quivers for Ron LaClair. Ron's one fine fellow too, when I retired from teaching the school gave me an envelope with a bit of cash in it on my last day. The FIRST thing I bought with it was a Mantis quiver from Ron,, HA.
Now you need a SBD bowstring from Braveheart and you'd get two more at once! :biglaugh:
Hey Gary! Which hunt will you be on? I'll be at the Lambshead next week. ~Steve
hahaha love that wrap!
Cool!! If nothing else you'll look good!!
Steve, I'm hunting the Sloan Ranch. Arriving there Feb. 26th.
Come to think of it Timothy I do need a spare string for my 62" Tall Tines recurve, HA.
Gary, those wraps are the cats meow! Awesome!
That'scool. I was hoping to see you there. Maybe next year. ~Steve
Add Braveheart Archery to the list, just ordered and backup SBD string from them . . . just in case I run into the kin of the mean hog that took Uncle Barry into the cacti last year . . . still waiting for my custom string from Pierre . . . hint, hint :^)
Gary which hunt are you attending ?
Drooling looking at all that neat stuff.

:bigsmyl:
I'll be there week one, G Fred asbell wool pullover in evening stand brown and windprrof liner, tuffhead BHs, a swafford knife, VPA BHs, ACE BHs, Wensel hat and bumper sticker, TG arrow wraps on some of my arrows..........
Chuck, I'm hunting the Sloan Ranch. Arriving there Feb. 26th
Can't wait to hear some Pig-Gig stories and adventures or misadventures...
My group will be there for the last hunt. Please, after you see it, can you maybe yell and give us some advice on camo or colors ? And maybe the conditions we will face for camping ?
I suspect the area will be brown except for right along the river. That's the way it was last year on Lambs head, which is just a bit over from Sloan Ranch.
Good luck and shoot straight.
ChuckC
Will do Chuck. I can tell you this now though; the tenting spots at the Sloan are among my favorites. Nice, mature live oaks close to the river with flat grassy spots underneath for pitching your tent. When I was there a few years ago we camped within a mile or two of our hunting area, in fact most guys did. The tenting area is within a few hundred yards of everything you need as far as showers, water, skinning area, etc. You will also be close to the main bunkhouse where Gene and Barry hold court every night, HA. The nearest town, Albany, is within easy reach where you can pick up supplies and dine out if you get tired of camp grub. Plus, take it from me, in general hunting the Sloan is easier on your vehicle than the much larger Lambshead. Not as far to drive each day. It's my understanding that the Lambshead's camping is also centrally located now as well. The down side is that the Sloan Ranch is much smaller than Lambshead so it can only accommodate a dozen or so hunters per week. Both ranches have similar terrain features and have the Brazos river running through them.
Got my new SBD bowstring from Braveheart Archery today. Fast service!
thank you sir !
Can hardly wait. I need to get away.
Looking forward to a nice leisurely camp. Maybe even some shooting !
If you have been there before. . can you please try to explain some of the boundaries of the place ? I made a map on MyTopo.com and covered about 9,000 acres. I know where the headquarters and camp (likely) is, but. . there is what looks like an air strip south and maybe a bit east. . is that on the property ? Can we hunt both sides of the river ? Does the property go far north of the river ?
ChuckC
Yes, the ranch spans both sides of the river. Everyone will probably be assigned their own hunting area based upon what the situation on the ground is when Gene and Barry get there, including river levels and if its possible to cross safely. The good news is that this property hasn't been hunted for hogs in several years so it should be teaming with them.
ChuckC, a buddy and I will be on the last hunt as well. How many guys are heading down in your group?
So what do guys do with the pigs that are flying in? Is there some place where they can be dontated? I would imagine flying back several pigs could get expensive.
I like that file right there handy.
Yep, Art and I came up with the idea of him building a file sheath right into the Powderhorn. I use the file to touch up my VPAs if/when an edge turns on a rock;^( Art designs and creates some beautiful yet functional leather items.
Three of us, JohnP from Tradgang, Johnie B (not Tradgang), and myself. We are camping and I plan to relax !
ChuckC
Add a backup SBD string to my list. Just received a note from Pierre that it shipped yesterday...I need it in case one of Uncle Barry's bad pigs cuts my other strings in half, HA!
Gary, are the kitchen facilities pretty good at the Sloan? Do we need to bring much in way of cooking utensils?
They are pretty primitive where I cook, over the hill near my Alaknak tent pitched under a live oak tree, HA! As I recall the main bunkhouse has everything that you can think of in it's kitchen, even a big TV is the BSing room. Ted Nugent, Michael Waddell, Blake Shelton, and Amanda Lambert have spent time there so it's not too primitive, HAA.
Thanks, Gary. Looking forward to meeting you Sunday.
