Went hog hunting this morning and took two hogs. This is my first animal taken with a traditional bow. I am so stoked. 6 months of practicing and several attempts left me frustrated. I am so happy.

Hog was laying on the ground in the palmettos. I shot and hit the shoulder area. He took off and broke the arrow off. If you look carefully the Muzzy broadhead stud part broke as well the insert. The arrow did not penetrated past 1/2" in the shoulder. I guess I hit bone. Is this normal?

Great job on the pork! Yes, it is possible for a number of broadheads to break when you hit that shield.
Congrats, WELL DONE!!!!
Way to go brother. That will get you hooked for life
Well done. King

Thats too cool .Congrats. :clapper:
A couple of perfect eatin size, CONGRATS!
Great trophies, you have every reason to be stoked!
Super job on the hogs!!!
I've never hunted them myself... hope to soon though.
Congrats!
Congrats on your first....and second!
I would think that something wierd happened for the broadhead to break like that. There is not much in a hog the size of those to stop an arrow from a 55# bow. I'm thinking maybe as he was running off the arrow slapped up against something and if the broadhead was solid in bone that is just where it decided to break. Sometimes screwy things happen!
Congrats again,
Bisch
Congrats!
Ain't it great?
Bolo good job and congrats. Bet they taste better than that puppy in your pic.
Yep, under the right conditions everything breaks.
Go get some more !

Good for you! The first cuple are way exciting and make a trad archer happy. Course i imagine that doesn't stop with many more critters under the belt either.
cool! congratts!
Nice job!!
Congrats!!! well done.
Big congrats. Don't know about the broadhead and penetration problem. But the big piece is you got a double on the ground. Nice job!
Congrats on the hogs. If you were using a broadhead with an alluminum adapter like the 125 grain Phantoms than it is not totally uncommon for the aluminum to bend or break. That's why I use a solid steel screw in broadhead with a brass adapter. This has been shown in the Ashby testing to be the most durable setup for a carbon arrow.
Nice job!!
:archer:
Thanks everyone.
JamesKerr, The Muzzy 220gr Phantom is what I used. I'm going to change out the aluminum insert for brass instead.
Awesome
It's been said one squeal is all it takes for the herd to break and run. I wonder sometimes if they all keep quiet on impact if you could drop the whole herd! Congrats.
