I cant wait for spring bear season to get here. I am shooting a new bow this year. A cari-bow wolverine 62# at my draw 28" with a heavy CX heritage 350 820 gr arrow and it is shooting good...... I have started shooting for at lease 15 minuts a day now. and have been looking over maps and old notes wondering what the snows going to be like. I know where there are a few dens and cant wait for the first walk in to see what the bears are doing that is if any bears choose to den in them this year. I am not sure why but spring bear is my favoret season I think if I had to choose just one season to hunt that this would be it..... who else is gearing up waiting for the day?
Lets see some bear pictures and some pictures of some successful hunters. I will start with some pictures but they are
not the best......

I was just thinking about bear hunting the other day. I haven't bought a tag for years, but I think I'll get one this year and try spot and stalk on a bruin.
Dave I would like to go to Manitoba someday..... I think thats going to be a good hunt for you.
Shedrock nice picture..... spot and stalk is the only way we can hunt them here in montana.
I was going to go to Manitoba this year with Stickflinger until I found out he was booked up to 2013 or beyond. So, I contracted with another guide in the inter lakes region. Was going to drive up and share expenses with someone, but no one I know wanted to go, so am flying up by myself.
I'm really excited 'cause this is my very first bear hunt. Don't exactly know what to expect so I will be paying close attention to this thread to see what y'all have to say about it and maybe pick up some great tips from you experienced bear hunters.
Put me in coach! ... I'm ready!!

Going to Fort McMurray Alberta, Canada with Ells River Outfitters. Allowed 2 bear. May hunt.
No time away from work for me this spring, but if I could, I'd hunt where I saw this guy in spring of 2010: (https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-LU-gHCGRnp8/TWx6dADDUTI/AAAAAAAABh8/OVBNDAjexgc/s800/bear.JPG)
Got ladders, stands and baits ready, our season does not start until April, bear are still sleeping, and with -30 c this weekend who blames them. I have a 500 lber I'm hoping to kill if he is still alive..
I will have about half of May and the first week if June off work to chase up a big boar. I've been stocking up on bait and one of these days I'll need to make a couple more suckers. I've been chasing a 7'+ color phase for the last two years, maybe this is the year.
Will b spot and stalk hunting Mt where I live and doing a doit yourself bait hunt with friends in Idaho. Cant wait. one of these days I will hopefully call in a bear too!!
I'll be looking for that wide pawed, worn pad, creased headed, scarred muzzle, broken yellow toothed, dinosaur neck, barrel chested, thick black furred boar that just yawned and stretched under five feet of snow. LOL
Unless my Dad draws, not for me this year, had to get rid of the pick up and the wife says I can't haul bait in the car :( Gentry that looks like a great time spot and stalk up there in MT. Good luck guys!! I love huntin bear :)
I'm lined up to Spot and stalk along the Fraser River in BC, last week of May/First week of June. Can wait, I love hunting new areas.
CJ
Did somebody say BEAR hunting?
I am glad to see everyone as excited as me for it to get here....
I'll be flying up to Winnipeg for my first bear hunt. Was wondering about taking my 3 piece Bob Lee take-down bow in checked luggage on the plane. I could put it in a seperate case with arrows, or pack it in my big suitcase in the middle of heavy camos so it would have lots of padding.
Anybody with experience in flying up to Canada and checking their bows got any thoughts about this? Does anyone mail stuff up to the outfitter ahead of time?
WoodsyDave
My wife and I are driving this spring to Alberta to hunt with Garrett bros at there new camp. Started working on my gear list this weekend. Habu Vyperkhan triple carbon with axis 340's and snuffers.
habu john
Got a few more hogs to chase before these guys wake up ;)

Well I have to say I'm jealus of you guys. I would love to bear hunt one of these days.
WoodsyDave, You'll never get your bow on the plane as carrier on. Don't even try.
I'm going to Quebec in June. First bear hunt for me!! :archer2:
Nice bear and pic Tippit........
Dave I would not try to take it on the plane ether...... and make sure you got a good case for it.......
Wiley good luck on your hunt. I am willing to bet it wont be your last....
Hoping to draw a tag this year! frist year I've been able to put in for the draw since my waiting period.

Dave I have flown to B.C. to hunt and I have a three piece take down, I have a special sock (three part sleeve), that I rap the bow in then rap it in cloths, make sure you have a hard bottom on your luggage, then I just check it in to checked luggage. I have never had a issue nor my friend that heads out here yearly. I have made a small case out of a power tool box, this may be the ticket to put inside your checked normal luggage(you can look this thread up under home built TDrecurve case.
Sorry guys, guess I didn't make myself clear. I didn't mean I would take my bow as carry on luggage, I meant as checked luggage.
Thanks Tim, I was thinking of wrapping it in heavy hunting clothes in my big checked bag. It looks like a second checked bag (hard case) would cost another $70 on Delta ($35 each way) I hope to save the $70 without too much risk of bow damage.
WoodsyDave
Dave make sure you keep all parts seperate, so they don't bang together, the sleeve I have is polar fleece, easy to build buy a two foot x three foot piece of polar fleece, fold in half, lay your bow on top and mark, sew straight lines where your marks are. have enough to fold over and some kind of tie. roll up and tie to use.

Im with you, Brad. Put in for West Blues with a couple of preference points. Come on Monday
Wish I was going again. I've been to Manitoba once and Idaho last spring. Zero'd on both hunts and felt "snookered" by the outfitter on both. Check for references before you book and please contact the references. I hope to plan a hunt with Stickfinger in the future but that will have to wait.
Best of luck on your hunts.
Manitoba stikflingers for me!
Our season opens here April 15th but things don't start happening till well into May.I'm scheduled to hunt Saskatchewan May 13th and when I get back,it will be close to the start of the rut and I'm hoping I will have enough free time hunt fairly hard here.
