Osage is heavy.

Osage makes a good self-bow, but doesn't hold a candle to bamboo in a laminated bow for performance, IMO. As BWD said, osage is heavy, makes for a heavy limb.  Bamboo is light and recovers faster than any wood. On the other hand, some folks like the feel of a heavier bow in the hand.  Only you can decide.  Good luck.

Sterling Holbrook has a great article in the Feb/March 2011 TBM about Osage in a self bow.  Great read.

It all depends on what your looking for. Depending on design I like the way osage feels better than bamboo. If your simply looking at performance, Bamboo wins every time.

Mitch I would recomend a Boo core over the Osage you will have better performance. But outer laminates under clear glass is still one of my favorite looks

I would have a talk with the bowyer-he will have some sage advice for you. All bamboos are not the same either talk to the guy who is gonna' build it.

Bjorn, good advice.. I've had one bow with all osage limbs, a Thunderstick Ramhorn Recurve..

Honestly, I couldn't tell a difference....

Could be me... LOL...

I have an osage limbed bow built by Harrelson Archery and a hill Tembo. To be honest I find that each has attributes that make it hard to decide which holds the edge. I cannot tell much if any difference. They both shoot good.

Osage   GENERALLY  has the reputation  for a very strong bow.  Much heavier ( physical weight than Bamboo )  USUALLY more hand shock is associated with  osage than other materials  but usually good cast.  NOT as smooth to draw as other core materials  ESPECIALLY YEW
Osage is   GORGEOUS as it turns  color with age and all stages are  beautiful "to me"  I have a number of bows made from Osage  and they are great performers and VERY STRONG  I do NOT fear them breaking .
BUT    the last few bows I have had made were with either Yew or Bamboo as core and As much as I like  Osage  I will stick with Yew or   Bamboo for core woods  in the future . JMHO

I have several bows with Bamboo cores, to me it is the best choice. The best of both worlds....boo cores with Osage lams.......

Let the person building the bow for you decide.I would not build a Zipper with Osage cores.

I have 2 glass recurves with osage cores. Both shoot great. One has walnut over osage. One of the best shooting bows I have.

Osage has classic beauty but I'd go for bamboo from a performance perspective. Boo with Osage lams sounds like a nice option.
