For years I have been shooting snuffers and for some reason I am not wanting to pay the price that they have gone up to. I am leaning toward the 4-blade Zwickey either the eskimo or the delta. Shoot anywhere from 49lbs to 56 depending on which bow. Any opinions or thoughts?
I always had trouble getting the bleeder blades sharp. My fault, not the heads. I went to 2 blade, esier for me to get sharp.
I shoot 4bl Zwickey and they fly great and sharpen great. that head has taken animals all over North America tried and true.
I shot the four blade deltas for years, and then in the mid 70's I could not find any and had to use the two bladed ones. Everything seem to die just a fast with the two blades as they did with four. I will use either one now, but most people have an easier time sharpening the two bladed heads.
I started shooting the wolverines and you can get them up to 190grns I believe
Magnus 1?
I don't know how the price compares with Eclipse, but the Eclipse two or four blade heads are really nice. For a more resonable price, the Ace heads are fine as well. I really like Ace, although I just ordered some of the new Grizzlies as well.
If you are looking for a good 3 blade head that won't break the bank look at the original woodsman. As far as 2 or 4 blades go. If I ever use another 2 blade it will be an eclipse werewolf single bevel. 4 blade goes to an old Bear Razorhead.
The 4-blade Eskimo is an excellent head and more forgiving if your arrow spine is not perfectly matched to your bow. The 4-blade Delta makes a bigger cut and flies well with arras that have the appropriately matched spine....
Both are excellent heads when razor sharp - choice will depend on how well your arra spine is tuned to your bow.
Keep the wind in your face!
Shoot straight, Shinken

A lot of personal choices here. I prefer two blades as close as possible to the 3 to 1 ratio. I believe they fly better. Easy to sharpen and my favorite is Grizzly.
I agree with Missouri Bowman, I shoot Grizzlies or Muzzy Phantoms at 200 gr without the bleeders.

I have taken game with both the four-blade Eskimos and Deltas and have had nothing but stellar results.
2 blade Zwickey Delta
the deltas are a bit more expensive.
personally I'd go with the deltas....
Little bigger cut.
But mostly just because they have a straight edge....I can sharpen straight edges better.
The two blade delta leaves every bit as good of blood trail as the 4 blade eskimo
Im considering the same thing, cant believe snuffers jumped ten bucks/6. Got some two blade deltas and probably will get 4 blades as well.
I used to use Eskimo 4-blade and was very happy with the results. Bloodtrails were heavier than with 2-blade Eskimos. Great penetration as well. I would be still using them but I went with a different set-up and needed a 145-150 broadhead for my carbons. They didn't work well mounted on a short (25 grain adapter). The hole in the ferrel where the bleeder blades are whistled when shot. Terry Green has a great post on how to sharpen the bleeder blades. You ain't gonna go wrong with a Zwickey. Try some...you might like'm!
I'm going to try out the Simmons Tree Shark this spring on turkey's. Hopefully I'll have a report to give.
I know the price jumped up but I'm staying with the snuffers. I got lucky about a year ago and was given 15 of them for free. So I'll keep shooting them until....
Zwickeys are awesome, have you looked at the 4 blade Eclipse? These used to be called the Journeyman head. I tried the 2 blade this year and found them to be lethal and very easy to sharpen. They fly great too. Very similar to the Zwickey but the bleeder are sharper and a little larger.
I'd like to get a few snuffers just to try, but I have a solid supply of 190 grizzly heads. Once sharp, they are my favorite head.
I think you should definately take a look at the Simmons Sharks line up. I prefer the tigershark but have also used safari heads and treesharks. Will probaly use the treesharks on Antelope and deer this year. You will not get better bloodtrails or penetration than you do with the Sharks. If you get a chance check out the "wild tradition" video. Big Dave shoots a nice bull elk with a Tigershark out of his 53 pound longbow and passes all the way out the bottom from the top! More than a little bit of blood too!
Hard to beat zwickey delta. I prefer to 2 blade, easier to sharpen and leaves a good hole. That being said the magnus I is also good choice. My personal 2 favorites. Both put plenty of blood on the ground.
How are you guys sharpening the 4 bld Zwickeys? I'm mostly wondering about the main blade, since you cant lay it on a stone with the bleeder stikin out.
Thanks
Eric
I used file, same as main blade. I'm handy with a file when it comes to sharpening things and still found 4 blade a problem. I'm sure someone has a good suggestion. I use 10in. mill file and then strop on leather that I have glued to small piece of board. Had same piece of leather for 10 years, keep it rubbed with buffing compound, makes a huge difference when stropping finished edge. Use same process for my 3 blades.
I use either the X block system or the tru angle files on the main blade either work real well.
I watched Terry Green's video in the "how to", he used a file then the Accusharp. I've never been a fan the pull through sharpeners, I've always like getting that fine polished scary edge from a stone and strop.
Not sayin the Accusharp dont work, cuz Terry knows whats sharp and what aint.
Any one else try this?
Eric
