Title: CX arrow set-up ?
Post by: Three Finger on February 08, 2012, 06:10:00 PM
So my CX Heritage 150 are on there way. My recurve set-up is 58in 48#@28 Fast Flight with SBD string. I pull 27 in. Does this sound like a good place to start. Cut them to 29in with 50g inserts and 200g heads. What do you think. Any feedback welcome.
Thanks
Jeff

My guess is that if you cut them that short they will be too stiff for 48#. I suggest you leave them full length to test them before cutting.

Thanks John. I will leave them full length and start tuning. And go from there.

I shoot a 53# longbow and use 150's, cut 29", 100gr. insert, and 150gr. heads.

I use the 150's in some set ups but another shaft that really seems to shine is the CE Heritage 90. Full length it is about 30.5".... If your 150's prove to be stiff the 90's with 200 up front should be the ticket..

As much as I hate to say it, since you have the 150's coming, I "think" the 90's would be a better match for you. Let us know how it works out..

I also hate to say it but the 150's are going to
be too stiff. I shoot the same setup 48# @ 28 and
also draw 27 inches. I started with the 150's also
but just could not get them to fly good. I now use
cx 90's with 100 grain brass inserts (you will
have to put them in a drill press and file them
down to fit the shaft)with 175 grain point.shaft
is cut to 28.5". they now fly like darts.

I have a 49@28 Big Jim Thunderchild and shoot 150's just fine. I have them cut at 29 7/8 and shoot 160 grn bh's with the regular aluminum inserts and shoot 145 grn field points. Just start them full length and wittle them down to get whats best for you.

I shoot 150s @ 29 1/4 with 100 grain inserts and 145 to 180 grain broad heads and they fly like darts from 46# longbows up to 50# longbows. They are not speedsters but speed is only a small part of the equation.

29" is too short regardless of how much weight you put on the end.

Well they are on the way now. I will put 100g insert in. Full length and start there. We will see. If it doesn't work I will try to sell them and go with the 90's. I will only try and tune 1 and try and see what happens. Thanks for all the input. Thats why I really like this site. Everyone is trying to help. Thank you
