Had a chance to chat with Fred Eichler for a bit at the Harrisburg show, real cool and down to earth dude; picked out my "trad gang" t-shirt right away - I asked him about the Hoyt Buffalo and he seemed pretty exited about it - told me how he sent it back to Hoyt several times because he didn't like what they were coming up with and then went through all the specs of the current design - I'm not a metal bow guy but he had me interested; anyway I had a chance to shoot one today and have to admit it was much sweeter than I anticipated and probably the smoothest draw I've felt, as if it was much less weight than marked. I think that conversation cost me about $700 bucks for the bow I just bought, and $20 for a few of his videos. Thanks Fred. :banghead:
Fred is an awesome guy...Had a great time shooting/talking with him at Muzzy '10...

Fred and Michelle are both really nice, down to earth people. Met them here in SD when Fred spoke at our SD Bowhunters convention and when I saw them at The P&Y Convention this year they remembered me and made a point of saying hello to me. Fred is one of the funniest guys you are ever going to meet. If you have never heard one of his lighter side of bowhunting talks you owe it to yourself to make that happen.
Dan
i saw the protatype in a thread here about the muzzy stump shoot , then saw one at a 3d shoot last year ...love at first sight (does that sound wrong ? :saywhat: )decided to save up & get one later this year .
& then unwrapped a 62" 50lber christmas morning :biglaugh: now i know why i love my girlfriend so much
I just got a buffalo today and it seems very smooth and fast! I saw Fred at the ATA show this year and as I walked by he was signing autographs and introducing himself like no one has ever heard of him lol he seems very down to earth and would love to get the chance to sit down and chat with him.
I met him at the NRA convention in pittsburgh last year and he sat and talked to me for twenty minutes like I was an old friend. Very gracious and just a super guy!
One of the funniest things I saw Fred do on a show was sneak walk very slowly up to his tradbow shot graveyard dead turkey laying out in front of the blind, and tap tap it in the eye with a broadhead, saying something like "you gotta watch these critters, man they're dangerous game..." making fun tonque in cheek of the other tv shows. Then blurting out "He's Down!". Still laugh about that segment! I love his humor, would love to meet him.
I would rather watch Fred more than anybody putting out DVD's, i love how excited he gets over anything he shoots.
Fred has about the only TV show I care to watch. Sometimes he kills something...sometimes he don't.
I bought a used Buffalo from a fellow TG'er back in November. I'm glad I did! I had a gamemaster II, but went to a Bob Lee for a while. I liked my Bob plenty, but like the extra weight of the metal bow. The buffalo is perfect for me. I've always been a big Fred fan. I like his general enthusasim for hunting as a whole. He's not just a trophy hunter, he's truly an advocate for the sport and traditional archery.
The title to this post got me to look. Glad to see that is what was intended. Never met Fred but I'd like to. Like what I hear about him
Fred was our guest speaker at Wisconsin Traditional Archers banquet one year not too awful long ago. The place was bursting with laughter all evening from the stories he had shared with us. Very very awesome evening! He and Michelle were the best!! Very memorable, I cherish that weekend. I wish I could spend some time with him hunting, learning from him, and hearing more stories. Great guy!
On Saturday I attended one of his seminars at the Harrisburg show on dangerous hunting situations. He was great, very informative and made the trip to the show worth every penny. Fred is hilarious even when talking about some of the near death siuations he has encountered.
Met Fred when he worked in an archery shop in Ft. Collins, Colo. many, many years ago.

Know and love Michelle....best woman in archery today. Fred, met him, talked to him, liked him a lot. Don't know two people together that have done as much for our sport. I know Byron is a great shot. I know Fred is a great guy, great father and husband.
Fred and Michelle are guest speakers at our WV Bowhunters Association banquet this March. I'm looking forward to meeting them both.
I also shot a friends Hoyt Buffalo a couple weeks ago and have to say I was surprized at how smooth the bow felt.
I agree, they are both very nice folks, and I thought that is what we are also.
X2 Terry.
Metal riser recurve is the LAST tradbow I would ever want to shoot. BUT, shot a buffalo and fell in love. A truly fabulous shooting bow.
This thread ain't about comparing apples to oranges...it's about Fred Eichler being a good guy....he is !!!!!! 2 nd to end of discussion.... :goldtooth:
Never tire of Fred's hunts especially w/his trad bow.
X2 with michaelschwister. Try a Buffalo you will be surprised!!
Years ago when I was hunting with a compound and trying different broadheads on elk I called Muzzy with some questions. The person on the phone listened and then said, they would let me talk to Michelle. Not knowing who Michelle was, I thought who is this gal and I want to talk to someone who knows about broadheads, not the "stock girl". She was very polite and surprised me with her knowledge of broadheads. Later I figured out who I had been talking to and Laughed. :smileystooges:
I have been a Fred Eichler fan for a little while as well. I just love his overall enthusiasm.
Michele is Waaaay better looking than Fred or Byron! Period. End of story! :biglaugh:
I've hunted with Fred and Michele 5 different times and they are both extremely generous people.
Ya know if there was ever a person you could meet and maybe go huntn with or just fling a few arrows with at some 3d range. Well if I could meet a guy it would be Fred. Why you say why not Mr. Bear or Byron or many of the others, but Fred is one of my idol's I also own a 55# buffalo. If Fred is ever around AR I'll be there.
Fred used to post on the LW as justabowhunter quite a bit, he got blasted some for switching back forth from compound to Trad. I hope that didn't run him off.
I also enjoy his shows, never met the man but but seems like a great guy that would be fun to hunt with.
Mark
Both Fred and Michelle are pretty darn awesome to talk to. If given a chance. Don't hesitate to stop and say hello.

Never have heard much about him. Just seen the adds of the stuff he endorses and kind of turned a blind eye. Glad to see a thread like this cause I usually get turned off by the big name guys for what ever reason. Character flaw I guess.
Nice to see a big name fellow get these kinds of compliments from the folks I trust the most.
I'll have to put meeting Fred on my list.
Have shot with him and have spent time with him and Michelle when they came to speak at bowhunters of Wyoming. A more passionate soul would be tough to find.
Great family
I will agree you can't trust this Fred Character as he has cost me several hundered dollars in the past year. As I bought myself a #55 Buffalo in november of 2010, I had hand surgery in August 2011 so I bought a #45 -Buffalo off of a fellow tradganger. This past week I bought a set of #60 limbs off of another tradganger. This guy has hit my bow budget pretty hard in the last 2 years. Not sure about this Michelle chick either as there is a lot of Muzzy broadheads laying around my shop. On a serious note I think Fred and Michelle are great people I cant wait till I can afford to go to full draw for a hunt.
I'm kinda in the same boat as Sticks & Strings... Don't pay to much attention to the "Face" of adds, to many "Smiling Chucks" I guess that blindly push a product for the $'s... But, with the great compliments of folks here that I trust like a brother definately put Fred on my radar. If given the chance I'll go out of my way to meet him and maybe shoot a few with him if given the chance.
Fred is the most entertaining speaker I've heard in the Trad Realms.....lots of funny stuff. Its been a while...maybe 8 years or so. I bet he's got a lot more stories now.
Fred is a fine representation of trad bowhunting.
I prefer the people I look up to or put in a hero status to be dead (so they don't let me down) but not Fred....great guy and love watching him
Happy thoughts.
Never had the chance to meet Fred but love what he stands for. Seems like a down to earth guy.
I would like to meet Fred. He seems like the real deal.
I would very much like to meet Fred. He seems like someone that would just be down to earth.
Fred is definitely one of my favorites. The only one I will watch on main stream tv
I just watched the video where he shoots his big Alaskan moose. To see his reaction how could you not love this guy :)
I am a huge fan of Fred. I would love to meet him and go on a hunt with him. I would also love to shoot a round of 3D with him and his family. I'll bet that would be a heap of fun.
I saw on a recent episode of his show, "Easton's Bowhunting TV", where he and a friend of his each killed a brown bear with their trad bows while hunting in Alaska. Awesome show!
need more guys like Fred in the sport.
not hung up on the gear, hunts hard and has fun.
Yepper I will jump on the Fred bandwagon, met him a couple times and heard him speak at the Kazoo Show several years ago. I think I own every VHS/DVD he has :biglaugh:

I read Fred's contribution to Traditional Archer Mag a couple issues back and one thing I thought was cool is he shoots under 55#'s for most N American game (I gathered he used something heavier for the bears?) and he is 6-2 and about 220lbs.
He also made a very nice explaination on why he came over to trad from compounds.
Joshua
This is interesting. It's important to note his draw length is over 31. Giving his 54lb Palmer a serious punch. Pretty cool.
Actually he said he uses the same poundage for bears - and got a complete pass through on each one he's shot with the exception of a polar bear I believe, and he hit the opposite shoulder. He has an article in some hunting magazine about using "comfortable" draw weight for stickbows and the effectiveness of this.
Fred does have a long draw, I think it was on MOBB-2 He stated he shot 54# at his draw length and he could handle a lot more weight but chose not to.
I wish he would post more like in years past, He never had a problem answering your PM's and gave solid advise.
Great Guy to talk too, Very humble and down to earth.
Rob..
He seems like the real deal. I would love to meet him and his wife. Every animal is a trophy to him a doe, small buck or a monster. He seems just as excited to be out hunting.

My thoughts exactly.
Fred is the reason i got inrested in trad archery. I saw his videos on youtube and i couldnt believe that trad gear was capable of taking such large animals and it inspired to get involved in trad archery
I met Fred and his wife Saturday at Harrisburg Sportsman show. Chatted a while about turkeys  I'd share camp with him :campfire:
Longstykes beat me to it.I think there needs to be more of that and less infesis on killing a "trophy".
A friend of mine (a compound shooter) shot my Buffalo with me one night and went and bought one of his own the next day - now he calls me all day long talking trad and asking to borrow Eichler videos :jumper: - makes me happy that I finally have someone to shoot with.
