I am 58 yrs old and am rehabing from neurosurgery
for spinal stenosis. The surgery was about a year ago and I am working with resistance bands and light weights and the docs are happy with the progress. I am cleared to shoot again and have been starting to work at it again.
I normally can handle 43 to 46lb @25". Age and a desk job keep me in that range.
Due to the operation, even that seems too much right now. I shake a little and tire after a dozen shots.
Would going down to a set of 35lb at 25" limbs(my actual draw length) be a good way to work back in or should I struggle with my normal weight until it comes back? I have a Bob Lee takedown recurve and could order 35lb @ 25". I assume these limbs would not be appropriate to hunt with but may help me get back to more shooting and maintaining proper form. This probably sounds odd to you guys who can easily draw 60lbs but I have to work with what I have as far as strength and neurological recovery goes.
If any of you have experience with this I would appreciate your input. I have thought about bowing to age and getting a compound but I really have enjoyed traditional since 2004 and would prefer to stay with it unless it isn't realistic.
It worked for me. I bought some light weight used bows and rehabed my shoulder and neck, two surgeries, and was able to get backt to shooting mid 50's to lower 60's in about four to six months. I really worked hard on my form as I was doing this and I think I am a better shot today because of this. Sell the bows when you are done, or keep one to work on your form, I think it helps.
Bill I have some 38@27 I think for a B.L.long riser.I bought them to put on my short riser which gives me 46@28" on short riser.I could lend them to you for your rehab. You can see them on the do it yourself camo on bow thread which I posted them today.Let me know if this intrest you.Kip
