Could you guys who have shot a centaur and a 3 pc thunderhorn give me the characteristics you like about each of them..
I have a centaur, have owned several of them and love em... But am real curious about a 3 pc. thunderhorn...
both great bows. the centaurs i've had/shot were very light in the hand (even for a 1pc) and fast. the TH feels like your average 3pc in terms of weight/balance, etc.. also very fast but naturally heavier than the 1pc centaur
haven't shot them side by side but they are both well made and have great fit/finish. i also thought they pointed well and had nice balance
Did the Thunderhorn have the same performance as the Cent???
im sorry i cant comment on the centaur; except i havent heard a single complaint against them.
i do own a 3 pc thunderhorn. it truly is an amazing longbow. the grip for me is one of the best i ever felt. it holds my hand in the same place every time. the workmanship is flawless. its very accurate and very stable, and near zero hand shock. i am not a speed nut but i dont keep any slow bows in my house either. the other thing i like is that the limbs are not super wide like a flat bow. at its widest point my limbs are 1.25" wide
another thing i notice, is finding a used 3 pc thunderhorn for sale is like finding the winning lottery ticket on the side of the road.

steve, i don't remember which centar i shot most recently, the chimera or elite. it was very fast but i do remember the TH being very fast also. i didn't shoot them thru a chrono or side by side but i'd say the TH certainly can hold its own in the performance dept. the centaur probably has a little speed advantage but it is known for being at the top of the performance scale so anything close to that is still very very good in my opinion.
i agree w/ joe too that the TH has real nice profile and lines
The Centaur, in my limited experience, will have a little more speed and be much lighter.
But, OMGosh, look at those Thunderhorns, almost too pretty to hunt with. WHAT A BOW!!!!!!
Either way you cannot not go wrong.

I have shot both and currently shoot a 3 piece Thunderhorn Heartstopper almost exclusively..The Centaurs, to me, were too light in the hand, but they are performers! The Centaurs have zero handshock and cast an arrow with authority. However, I will say that the Thunderhorn has the edge. Chrono'd my 60", 53@28" Heartsopper this past weekend, with a 585 gr CE Heritage, at 28.5", and was consistentley getting 174 FPS. The craftsmanship is above and beyond the best, with the fit and finish supreme. Flawless workmanship. Stippled grip is a must have. They balance well, and the grip is a killer. A good friend of mine just acquired one, and he said that after 45 years of shooting longbows, that it is the nicest shooting longbow he has ever owned. Another plus is that Kim and Duane Jessop at Thunderhorn Archery, are some of the finest folks to deal with when it comes to longbows and custom Boa quivers.
Oh man. What a bow! I haven't shot either but I haven't heard a bad thing about either one.
Between the Centaur all glass bow, and the Thunderhorn 1 piece "Vintage" which is very similar to the Centaur in R/D, riser etc... The Centaur to me seems to be a bit faster. The finish on the Thunderhorn is "finer".

The two best bows made IMO. The Centaur wins in the performance department and Thunderhorn gets the slight edge in the pointability department. I've killed a ton of deer with my Thunderhorns but I'm starting to make up some ground with my Centaur. I just got the first Dark Matter Centaur made and it really solves the problem of the Centaur being too light in the hand. I would never want to have to make a choice between the two. If you have one you owe it to yourself to have the other also.
Ok Jake, now that you been found :saywhat: how about finishing the write up on the "Dark Matter" Centaur for those of us that need to know :pray:
And as for the Centaur Pastor Steve you know about it's performance and graceful lines and the pic's above of the Thunder Horn that's a beauty!
Yep, the centaurs I've handled quite a bit! The Dark Matter riser may be the ticket... Nothing I dislike about my centaurs, but wish they were a little heavier as far as mass weight!
