What grn. broadheads are you using on your wood arrows for whitetails? Also how heavy of a arrow with broadhead?Anybody using these longer bows for turkeys?
Depends on what poundage, draw length etc. I tune the arrows to fit the bow and use whatever weight flies well. Any decent broadhead should be more than adequate for a whitetail if it's sharp, tuned, and pointed at the vitals.
I've always use Magnus 2 blade 125gr. with POC shafts.

I used this setup for a boar. Imagine would get a clean pass through with the whitetail as long as no heavy bone is hit. My arrow are 580 grain cedar, 225 tuffhead. I shot that hog quartering away and got into the vital with a high and back shot. I avoided the shield. Shooting Hill bows 8-12 grains per pound in that range I think is best. Like a heavier arrow for hogs. I like to shoot the same setup for both. Never heard anyone complain about too much penetration.

I shoot surewood shafts with 160gr Ace Standards out of a #60 Big Five. Total arrow weight is right around 620gr.
I've shot more hogs than deer with 125gr. broadheads, mostly were complete pass-thru.

STOS 145 and 160 grainers. I have been playing around alot with woody weights lately to get a high FOC and higher overall weight and I have been very satisfied with them.
I,m tring to get some cedars over 500grns. not easy to do.I,m using zwickey eskimos.Might have to try the woody-weights.
tradlongbow, just curious--were those pass-throughs on boar hogs with tough shields? I just got two down there in your great state last week--shooting 50# Treadway bow and 525 grn arrows-- GT Trads with Zwickey two blades. Double lunged both but sure couldn't get through both shields.
I use 135 gr Zwickeys and Douglas Fir shafts(630 total weight) out of my 70# Hill Tembo. Also just started shooting 160gr Hill heads with DF(680 total weight) also.
My bows are around 60# at my draw, They dont feel good unless my arrow is up 650-700g. Magnus 1 160 or Snuffer, Eclipes bumped up to 160-175g or a 200g VPA 3 blade 1-1/4". I'm gonna get some of the big Ace 200.
Hill bows are kinda like a diesel, there just as fast fully loaded (heavy arrow) as they are empty (light arrow).
Definately gonna try a turkey with it this year, last 2 years I got swindled outa turkey season by work, but now I my own boss so I guess I can make the rules.

My preference is 70" ntn for everything. Currently, my 750 gr woods include 2-blade Ace 160gr bh's.
Same as Buddy -
160 Ace Standard
69"HHA 54@27 - 518gr total wgt.
Plenty good for Whitetails
I'm at 800 for this year with 270 upfront and a 70" Redman which I plan to use with my gillie for turkey. Haven't shot a turkey yet but I'm eager to keep trying. Love the heavy weights momentum.
Smoke1953, what weight bow is that 800gr arrows going out of??
I'm shooting a 66" Big Five 48# @28, shooting a 55/60 sitka spruce with a 160 gr head.
