Title: What adhesive for broadhead adpt.?
Post by: DBinAlamo on February 04, 2012, 06:02:00 PM
I need to put some broadheads together, and I'm just wanting to know what adhesive everyone's using, and what technique you're doing to spin check the broadhead after its glued.  Thanks for any links or info......  DB

Quick Stick or Ferrel Tite.  Wait till it cools then spin the arrow on a block of wood or counter top or whatever.  I have not had but one or two total that didn't set right the first time.

I normally use a good epoxy.I used to spin arrows but a few years ago made this spinning jig.You can make a simpler one of wood. With the jig and a reference dot,you can align them perfectly and quickly.I went back and checked my old arrows, using the jig and they weren't as good as I thought they were. Some broadhead ferrules are very true and some are terrible. That complicates the process.

I've never had broadhead ferrules fly so well since using the jig.

I use Hot Melt, I shove on the broadhead or field point then set the arrow, point down, on the table and spin it between my hands and adjust the point as needed.  If it takes to long to get it straight and the glue starts cooling I just put the tip back over the candle for a few seconds to heat it back up and continue.

I like hot melt and insert iron depending on what type of arrow I'm gluing to. I also built an arrow spinner similar to the one above with bearings from inline skates and a bit of wood.

This week, I tried it with JB Weld, regular Gorilla Glue, and Super Gorilla Glue. Shot some today, and all worked well. I like the Super Glue since it was fastest and cleanest.

Another Vote for  JB WELD!!  It has a Decent "Work Time" amd when its set, it is  NOT  going to Move! Just a Little Heat and the Points Come right loose! It is Relatively Inexpensive and worth its weight in Gold in the Field!! Once they are Stuck, the Bad Boys will  NOT  come off unless You take them off! Again, My  2 Cents . I have Yet to lose  ANY  Points since I started using the Stuff!!
"Pay Now, Pay Later"! I personally would rather Pay Once, and have  ALL  Confidence they will be on the Arrow no matter what I hit!  :archer:

THATS  What I need too! The "Self Alignment Guage" is Indespensible! Mine consists of Plastic Rollers from a Clost Kit, and a 2 X 4 to keep them together, and a Scale on the End to monitor the Wobble! Cheap? Frugal? Call it what you may, but it Works!!   :goldtooth:  hahahaha

If yopu plan on using them on an a set of arrows dedicated to just those broadheads (I do) then I use JB weld. Clean all parts thoroughly with acetone. Screw the adapter into the arrow and clean it with acetone. After all are done clean the inside of the broadhead with acetone with an ear swab (Q-tip). Mix the epoxy (slow cure) and apply to the adapter. Twist on the broadhead making sure they are aligned aligned perfectly by spinning or using a roller spinner ( I also orient them vertical at this time. Let them cure upsde down and you will have a rock solid connection when the moment of truth arrives.

I also use Ferr-L-Tite and a spinner to make sure the heads are dead straight. There are several spinners commercially available, or you can always make one out of a piece of scrap wood a pair of crossed nails.

Something like this.   :)   Simple to the point of being crude, but it works very well.

JB Weld and a Dixon broadhead aligner - they come out perfect.  I have considered the Gorilla super glue but have not tried it.
