I know that a lot of you play the preference point game in various western states each year. It can get to be an expensive proposition.
Utah, like many states now, requires the purchase of a hunting license in order to apply for preference points. There is a way to save a little money though.
A Utah hunting license is valid for one year from the date is was purchased. So if you bought one last year when you applied for the draw or bought a point, and now you apply this year before it expires you don't need to buy a new license this year.
By timing your applications right you would only need to buy a hunting license every other year, saving $65 for a license you don't need. You do of course still need to pay the application fee of $10 per species.
Way to go!!! It's good to see someone beat Utah at its own game!!!!
:biglaugh:
I was so sure I was going to draw out last year I bought it the very first day it was available. Going to wait just a bit this year.
but aren't the application period season specific? Like Feb is the time to apply for the 2012 hunting season . My Utah tag will only be good till 12/21/12? right? I have 8 points for utah!
wait I just answered my own question, thanks
I just checked, you saved me 65.00!
You'll draw this year Steve

I would send Joe at least $40.00...LOL
Joe, glad to see you are you enjoying retirement.
Nice catch there, Joe!
Reminds me I need to get my moose app in.
If I draw elk, that will be trouble :D . I could deal with one of those antelope tags though!
Let me know if you get either, I will fill you in with intel! You too Joe
My group applied last night. Nonresident group of 4. I was the only one that had to pay, as the other 3 had purchased a liscence and hunted last year.

How about we split it?? :saywhat: :biglaugh:
I can't apply for 5yrs because I drew last year. Do you know if I can buy a preference pt in the mean time?
Can't buy a point for elk, but you can for everything else
Will do! Thanks, David Ryan, are you applying for the unit I hunted?
whip the next round is on me.......
Right on Whip. I usually put in the last week and then the first week the following year! Have saved some money this way the last 4 years. I have a bunch of Goat points and have put in for the rest of the once in a lifetime tags since they started letting us apply for all of them instead of just the one tag! I am 33 so I hope to at least draw one of them before age 60!
Snag, mabey ;)
Whip you are a backcountry patriot of the highest order.
