Good day, I am board and was thinking last night about what I would like into my next bow, and was wondering who would offer these characteristics/options in a bow...
So here it goes, It would be a r/h recurve, split fingers,
2 pc t/d with bow bolt,
62", 60#@31,( I draw 31" on my PSA, with a hight wrist style)
Hight wrist grip,
Bamboo or Actionboo limbs core,
Dark wood riser(any suggestions),
Dark wood limb veneers(any suggestion),
Radius shelf cut past center,
sheep horn overlays on tips and riser,
Stippled or checkered grip!!
Would love a bow that could handle heavy arrows with authority!!
What do you think? Any suggestions as for models, bowyers etc are welcome of course... that is the idea!! And pictures would be great!!
Thank you for playing.
Cheers
David
Why a 2 piece td instead of a 3 piece?
I like the look of a 2 pc better, it make for a lighter bow, and make for a more fluid look... just my preference.
I dont know how much lighter it will be if you cut the thing into 50 pcs.it still weigh 3 lbs or so.lol go with a 3 pcs silver tip you will never need another bow.
I would suggest Dan Toelke. His recurves are not cut past center and I don't know if he does checkering but his work is stunning. Guys on here who have talked to Dan will tell you he is extremely accommodating, and a real treat to work with.
St. Joe River Bows for certain!
St Joe is great, So is Chad Holms. I love the looks of the Holm made bows but have never shot one. Chad is really a great guy though.
God bless you and Good luck. Steve
Ps. If you decide to buy a three piece give EagleWing a shot.
Thank you for the reply so far!! I really like Lee Hoots bows... Keep the suggestion coming!!
I shot a Holm-made River Runner last weekend in kzoo and it shot very well and sunk the arrows home too. I also spoke to Chad about grip options and he was willing to work with me on what I wanted. I'm not sure if his bows are cut to center, I didn't think to ask. All in all he seemed to be a great guy I'm sure if you contacted him he would gladly answer any questions.
Thank you JMR, I just went to his web site, they look good!!
For backpack or horseback hunting there is nothing better than a 2 pc longbow in my opinion. I have a Dan Toelke 2 piece Whip that I use for those type of hunts. Dan was not only a great person to work with he had the bow completed and in my hands in a short amount of time.
Kohannah Kurve in a 62" T/D. A wonderful shooter. Silent and dead in the hand. It doesn't seem to mind what arrow weight and was easily tuned. He has various grips and will style to your liking. Definitely take a look there and talk to him. He's a great guy and will work with you for sure.
what about great northern?
It may be hard for you to get anyone to build you a 31 inch draw two piece that is 62 inches. Two piece bows are actually one piece bows cut in two. Very few designs will accomodate a 31 inch draw length without stacking problems at that bow length. Just a thought.
I have a nice two piece in stock that is 64inches and close to that weight at 31 but could not reccomend that bow for a 31 inch draw .
I'm thinking that Big Jim might be a good bet.
God bless you, Steve
David,
Sorry, I see you are looking for a recurve. Not much experience with two piece recuves.
Don't know about 2 piece but I highly recommend a Predator Classic from Hunters Niche.
I honestly think a 62" bow to 31" draw might be testing some recuves. I am not a curve fan but shot them well. They just don't speak to me lol. If your not a 100% set on haveing to have a curve I would go with big jims 2peice long bow. I have stood with him while he practiced here and he draws his bows to 30.5" and they do great
"I'm thinking that Big Jim might be a good bet."
X2, he shoots a 56" Thunder Child and draws 30"s... Not a curve but it ain't your normal longbow :)
Good luck
Dude...you just described my new St Joe River Bow.
Just ordered it at Kzoo.
Seriously. Bamboo is their standard core. They can put a beautiful stain to really darken up that wood.
Don't think they can do the stippling(sp), but with the bow-bolt take-down I use one of those rubber roll on grips. Goes on a lot easier when you can start at the bottom of the grip when the bow is apart.
I highly recommend you check out their new website.
ThanK you guys, that is a lot of nice suggestions.
I've been going to a lot of site to look at bows...
For me a longbow as to be, well, long.... I have a 68" R/D one that I love, if I buy an other LB, it will be 70" mild R/D.
As for recurve, I have a great 3 pc that I also love, and not ready to buy an other one...
I also have a caribou Silver fox hybrid LB, that is beautiful, but not for me....
So now, I'm looking at the 2 pc recurve, and they always appeal to me, so that is why I started this thread...
I shoot low wrist with my LB, draw 30". but I shoot hight wrist with my recurve, and love it, and draw 31"....
Thank you for playing the game with me, keep it going!!
also, it could well be a 64" for that matter....
One riser I really like, is the one on the Stalker 1pc longbow.... Just the wrong limbs on them!!
Check out the 62" whisperstick MOJO 2pc take down. Not a bow bolt but close to what your looking for .
64" on the Kohannah Kurve would be the way to go. Seroiusly, you can't beat it. He does tips, boo cores, and will build the grip to suite. A great guy to deal with and will work to make you happy. Plus, the bows shoot.
You can also check out Border Bows, I think they might have what you are looking for.
I would have to say the new St. Joe River take down. Now out with the bow bolt a GREAT shooting bow as for your Colors and horn tips here are some pics of the recurve they just built for me. I am having them build a longbow same specs with the bow bolt. On top of that they will make the handle to your specs! All are hand sanded!
