Title: Woody Help
Post by: awbowman on January 31, 2012, 11:32:00 AM
I recently purchased a used Thunderstick Mag and want wood arrows.  How do I estimate the required wood shaft I need for my bow.  I have a 58" Thunderstick Mag, about rated 53#s at 28", but I draw about 26 1/2".

My current arrows from a recurve i shoot are Heritage 150s with 175 grains up front cut at 29" and they are a little off but not much.  HELP, I really want woodies for this bow!

If anyone is willing to walk me through Stu Miller's calcs as a starting point, please PM me.

At a 26 1/2draw with your bow you are around 51-52#. So a 55-60# spine cut to 28" would allow you to shoot the 175 or more grn heads. And Surewood shafts(DOUGLAS FIR) are great shafts that are readily available.JMHO

Most important thing with Stu's calc is  read the instructions carefully....twice   :)    Once understood, the calculator showed itself to be dead on.

You're probably closer to 49-50# at 26 1/2 draw, but I agree that 55-60# is a good place to start.

Thanks guys, I must have done it right, I'm getting about 49-52#s dynamic spine depending on Strike Plate Position.  I'm going to order me some 55-60# arras!

Thanks Guys
