Walking around Kazoo this weekend I was wondering how many fellow TGs I was rubbing shoulders with
Nice to meet you Killy :campfire:
Too bad there weren't name tags to facilitate meeting your fellow tradgangers :wavey:
I too got to meet her, along with a boat load of fellow TG'ers. I was the one running around in shorts.
I just wish more guys would use there real names instead of cool street names as a TG "Handle". I have a hard time remembering everyone's handle, then I have to try and remember the names associated with it. I guess if that's all I have to complain about, Life ain't to bad.
I talked to her at Kzoo Friday night. She's a very sweet and personable lady.
:archer2: :archer2:
One ganger I would really like to meet would be Killy. I enjoy every one of her post. The lady has such a wonderful sense of humor and such a great outlook on life. She is really a special person. Hope to meet her in person one day. John
Some people have all the luck!
Yep, if I had a list, Killie would definitely be on my short list!
Hey guys-I met Killy too and she was real nice and took the time to shake my hand and asked me how I was! Very nice lady indeed! Thanks.
Kennyb :bigsmyl:
aaahh she's alright

I'm with you on that one Mike........to many names :readit:
I am going to Denton Hill this summer for the first time with Bob Walker. I am really looking forward to meeting her, Jed Riddell and Keith Zimmerman. Of course others as well. Think I might have to get "Froggy" stamped on my quiver so folks will know who this Dixie Redneck is
Froggy
There were name tags. I saw Smoke walking around with a sign on his back just like he posted he would do, so tradgangers could ID themselves. We were leaving so it didn't make any sense for us to "tag up". Killie does make relevant posts and shows a great sense of humor. As my brother often says,"She's good people". :wavey:
Seen her on sunday. Was not for sure it was her till I seen more pictures here on tradgang sunday night. Every time I was shooting a bow she was trying one out also.
They sure don't come any better than Kathy for sure.
Kathy is a great gal. She will show you the proper way to take a picture. I learned first hand at ATAR one year. LOL
I would like to meet her. She has a sharp wit
I met Kathy on Friday and I didn't know whether to shake her hand or give her a hug.. :biglaugh:

"Just relax until you and the Cognac become as one" (Killdeer)
Never met her, but she's one of my all time heros! :notworthy: :campfire:
As I've done for the last three years I took a 1/2 days vacation and headed from work for the three hour drive to Kalamazoo. I've been attending this gathering almost yearly since it started in Hastings in the early 90's. I had a mental checklist of what I wanted to do Friday before I had to make the return trip back home around 7:00pm. The note on the door said "Please no back quivers". No problem, I left it and my arrows in the truck, by design I brought limited funds so I could shoot some bows but not purchase. I'm an admitted "bowaholic", I'm like a junkie in a crackhouse in a place like this! On my drive down my wife called me and asked "what's that long tube on the front porch?" I told her not to worry about it. It's just "another Griffin". My checklist.
Take lot's of pictures, hard to do when I left my camera at home :(
Stop at Chad Holmes booth and pick up one of Scott Teaschner's leather "works of art" in a armgaurd, Snakeskin on Chestnut :knothead:
she's ok i guess for a girl...
With all these compliments, I wonder if she'll ever be the same at the BBTC campfire.
Also, if I understand correctly from Silver_Wolf, Killy took possession of three(3) more bows.
But, being the good guy that I am... I willing to assist her by offering her a storage area (for the bows) at an undisclosed location of my choice.
Thanks, Dave. :scared:
Thankfully, he didn't recognize who everybody was talking about.
Killdeer
Are you guys really sure that was our Killy you met and are talking about???
(Duck - Incoming)
Just kidding, she is everything y'all said, and much, much more. As is well known on here she and I have enjoyed a goodly number of shoots together (not near enough, never enough), and hope to enjoy more. So glad she got to go to K'zoo, know it is something she has wanted to do. I will definitely save that pic of her and Ron - know it was as big for her as it was for him.
By the way, here's a tip for future reference, if you see someone and you think it's Killie, if she's trying out a lot of bows, buying wood arrows or knives, or shooting the ranges, and is shorter than you thought she'd be ;) - it's a good chance it's her, bless her heart. Say, "Hey," to her, you won't regret it (as long as you don't "rudely" interrupt her - LOL) :archer: Wish I could have been there too.
(Thanks for the heads-up on this thread, Don ,batman, wouldn't have wanted to miss it.)
Bernie, 2 icons like you and Killy at Kazoo at one time? I think the snow would've melted and the sky would fill with rainbows!
She's great!, not to out do anyone, but I not only got to shoot with her, I got to shoot her new bow, and a real beauty at that, the bow and the gal.
What a kind thing to say, owlbait. (Ithink - ;) -LOL)

As we were driving home yesterday those were my words exactly.
Sometimes we form images in our minds about what someone is like without ever having met them based soley on impressions formed here. Then when you finally met in person they end up being something completely different. Not so with Killdeer. She is exactly what I had expected, (Well, maybe not quite as tall ;) ) and the words that flow from her mouth are often as profound as the ones that she writes.
It was one of the highlights of a great weekend, and I look forward to the next time we meet.
 :archer:
See Kath, I knew I could help!
:jumper:
Killie, they make you sound like the Raquel Welsh of Trad Gang....Whooo Hoooo!!!
yeah, she's a good gal, but I would advise against letting her shoot your bow :knothead:
"she was a real hoot"....
Yeah, she's a "wise" o... owl, for sure! :bigsmyl:
Always wanted to meet her, got my chance this weekend!!! I think it was the highlight of my trip!!! (I am serious) Well, along with the new Zipper that I found in the trunk of the car when I got home. :D
Talked with her also a great young lady!!!! :notworthy:

Don't ya just love it when you meet someone like that? But then you have to say good bye, and I prefer "see you later" or "until the next time"
Meeting Killdeer was one of the many privileges and pleasures of K'zoo this year. I was shooting a GN Lil Creep and turned around to see Killie waiting her turn with a Black Widow in her hand.

Bernie, why would we want to do that? :D
@Mike, my TG name and my street name are the same.
I agree with you.
Met her Friday night-then had a chance to talk to her a little bit Sunday morning. What an awesome lady and a true representative of our way of life-think she should be "The First Lady of Trad". :clapper: Wished I would have had more time to talk but with her being such a "celebrity" had to share time with everyone else.
You are right, Fletcher, nobody ever tries to - least of all me - :biglaugh:
It was I who was honored, and very deeply touched by the kindnesses shown me on my weekend adventure.
Firstly, Fletcher and his lovely wife Madeline took me under their wing, gave me a ride home to the motel and also graced me with company at dinner. And such company! I was surrounded by the PBS, leaders and accomplished hunters, and just plain nice people.
Gregg Coffey kindly allowed me to mail him my arrows (and pocket knife) so that I would not have to check them as baggage. Ron LaClair permitted me to stash them and my growing pile of purchases under his table, and to lollygag in a chair in his booth.
Whip gave me a ride Saturday morning so that I could slip in early and take pics before the Expo got crowded. This is when I missed out on buying that Caribow that I noticed when taking pics.
There is more, but my sore neck needs a hot shower, and that will give me time to reflect on other events that need telling.
Killdeer :notworthy:
Yep, I got to see my favorite Trad Lady too. I didn't shake her hand though. I got and gave a big hug.
I first met Kathy at ATAR 6 years ago. Shared a campfire and Cigars as well as refreshments. I could sit and talk/listen to her for hours.
She often posts exactly what I want to say on threads when I can't find the words. Good to see you again, Friend.

I agree - maybe Terry could comment on the process.

Rick it was great to get to know you and your wife.
One thing i really wanted to do was meet Killie, something about a woman that shoots Traditional Archery makes my knees weak and my mouth dry. Guess i just got a lil nervous to say hi. Hopefully i will have the opportunity again sometime.

Am just the opposite, what drives me nuts is some folks know each other here on a first name bases and you read a post where someone says "I agree Joe Blow" and then you back up to find "Joe Blow" and there is nobody like that and you can't figure out what that poster is talking about. What needs to happen is when replying personally in a thread that person needs to be refereed to as their Tradgang handle not their real name so the rest of us can figure it out.
Killy is truely a gem of Tradgang and I wish I would have had the chance to meet her if I could've gone this weekend.
I'm am a little surprised at the color of the liquid in her cup in that hotel lobby picture. I was expecting a little more amber and a little less redness to it. Hmmm, perhaps Basil Hayden isn't her beverage of choice??? ;)
The beverage was the result of the kindness of newfound friends, and it was tasty in its own right. The brandy warmed us all right up, and I will treasure the quiet talk we shared as the "rowdies" raged in the next room.
I think it was at this point that a certain Basil Hayden fan was busily juggling a glass of cognac and a hot tub, miraculously not losing the bottle. He did, I was told, finally become one with the cognac.
Basil Hayden is good, but so is Balvenie, Duff Gordon Late Bottled Vintage Port, soo bok, Coors Lite and a certain Texas vodka. All have their moments and milieus. (Sorry for the Franglais)
Hot tubs require a certain finesse. Or an attendant.

Street name or real name... :dunno:
When I started posting here, I was very careful to keep my sex hidden. I wanted to be taken for the content of my words and experiences. I didn't want to be derided because I was female, nor coddled because I was a gurrrrlllll.
Also,I was aware that there were predators on the internet, and I wanted to preserve a bit of privacy.
I am always a bit surprised when somebody wishes for someone to fix something for them, when they could fix it themselves, and the fix deprives somebody else of a choice. Sounds like most legislation.

QuoteHot tubs require a certain finesse. Or an attendant
I agree, them hot tubs ain't the easiest vessel for a fat old man who lacks finesse to navigate...but I'm too proud to have an "attendant".... :biglaugh:
Ron, Killy........ :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
Killdeer, I could never call you "just one of the guys" because of the person that you truly are. But any woman/girl/lady or what ever they liked to be called at the time, that will go to a traditional archery gathering and buy three bows instead of going and buying shoes and purses, is one fantastic type of human being, and a lot more so than some of others of the same gender. Nothing like a person that loves traditional archery the way you do and spreads the word about it as you do. :clapper: :clapper: :clapper:
I love it - by next year's K'zoo, the "waggin' tongues" will have it that it was rumored "by reliable sources" that well known "Mountain Men", and notables of the Traditional Archery World, Ron LaClair and "Killdeer", were seen in a hot tub of Brandy, still in their ever present checkered wool jackets, of course, splashing the warmth giving amber libation all over "some nameless rowdies" in the lobby of a certain high end hotel, at 2012's Kalamazoo. (Oughta be great for "speculative" attendance at K'zoo - 2013.)
(Killie, serves ya right for releasing "THAT" picture, again - ;) )
As far as names/handles go, I'll admit that I'm blamed lucky to remember my own street name ... or handle for that matter, a lot of the time - let alone other folks monikers. Worst of it is, I don't think there is a thing that poor, beleagured Terry (or anyone else) could do to help me do very much better - But I am sorry, and I love y'all anyway, name, handle, or none of the above. :campfire:
(My work is done here :jumper: )
We met her, she hung out at the Shrew booth quite a bit. Very impressive lady!!
O Thank you Bernie for that tawdry bit of imagery! That pic that you referred to just may need a bit of sprucing up in Photoshop. :readit:
Did I tell you about the bows from Pine Hollow yet? What an awesome display! Sinew backed, rawhide backed, stained, painted, straight, wiggly and flipped, each was a work of art lavishly bedecked with paint and painstaking care. The quivers, also, were crafted with pride, somewhat more quietly in their way. I was looking over the books, some of which I already had, and noticed one which I had meant to buy for way too many years. I allowed as how I would need to come back for it once I got to seriously shopping.
I was over by Ron's booth about twenty minutes later when here comes 4runr with Al Herrin's Cherokee Bows . It was a totally unexpected and gracious gift from a generous friend. Kenny, I don't know what I did to deserve this, but I am very grateful.
Killdeer
I do remember when you used to post here and I hadn't realized at the time that you were one of those "gurrrllls". It never mattered then, and it doesn't matter know. Your opinions and thoughts are always sought out and respected.
I'm glad that you eventually felt comfortable enough to come out of Fibber McGee's Closet and sit a little closer to the fire. You really are "one of the guys", and one of the most pleasant people to hang out with that I have ever been around.
Killy,
I of course never doubted your taste in liquid refreshments. Part of the joy of Shrewhaven over the years has been to sample different scotch, bourbon and other distilled beverages that everyone brings to camp along with some incredible cheese and sausage (in fact I just tried a new cheese called Parron that's going to come to camp next fall-wow in both taste and price-those shops that put out those little "bait" piles with toothpicks should be ticketed). Anyway, I've strayed into a nice bottle of cabernet sauvignon or chardonay at camp as well. And Tim Cosgrove from Kustom King brought a couple of batches of his homemade beer and it was outstanding.
So Killy, I guess we're just kindred in spirit(s) and enjoy whatever is appropriate for the occasion. Your posts have always been a joy to read and your words well thought out.
I did have to laugh at the mental picture of Ron in a hot tub with brandy. It reminds me of the picture we have somewhere of Ron in his birthday suit flailing in the Armstrong Creek in August the year we started remodeling the cabin. It was a scorching hot day and we were all working our tails off on putting a metal roof on the cabin (Ron was the ground "go-fer" and latrine hole digger that day) and by late afternoon we had all lost 3 lbs of water weight. Ron was first to jump in and of course our eyes have never been the same since. :bigsmyl:
Someone even took a video of the event...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8B59nKy7wI
I was terrified to click on that link! :scared: :scared:
But I just couldn't help myself - kinda like trying not to look at a car wreck on the side of the road....
Lost your cognac again, too. I see you finally found it!
Killdeer :biglaugh:
For no other reason than just me appreciating you being a friend, Kathy. Nothing more, nothing less.
You post a simple message about meeting someone and it blows up Mr. La Clair Skinny Dippin????? :scared:
:campfire:
Oh Killy, you'd want to take that salmon away from that bear before you took a glass of cognac from Ron. :readit:  ;)
I think we're getting off topic.. :readit:
I've been to all 17 of the Expo's and this last one is at the top of the list. The new building was fantastic, much roomer, we never seemed crowded as in past shows, plus the lighting was like being outdoors on a sunny day.
The people of coarse are the highlight of this event and at the top of that list, for me at least was finely getting to met face to face our own Killdeer...the quickest wit in town.. :D

This wasn't directed towards you Killie, it was just an observation I had and voiced. I wore a name tag for our organization (Michigan Longbow Association) and guys would come up and introduce themselves. It was just hard to connect Gorilla Stomper 3000 with a name or post. That is just an example, not a real name, but I think you get what I'm saying.
Killie, you will always be known as Killie to me.
Sorry double post.
Boy, Ron had a lot more hair back when they took that video - and yet ... a shorter beard. Heck of a fisherman though.
I agree. shoots/rendezvous are always about the folks, along with good times and good trad gear, (plus the pictorial reports, and retorts, afterwards - LOL.)
i guess Killdeer is Ok, for a girrrll! EW!
I am sure that will get me a punch in the arm at Baltimore in May!

What matters is that when one speaks... they speak from a solid foundation of knowledge. Killy does just that. Well, mostly (and a good dose of humor).
Killy, you've earned these kudos.

Does Clark know how many boy friends she has on here? For myself, I have never met a lady that knew how to handle a canoe paddle or a trad bow that I didn't like.
Me neither ...

BADDA BING!!
OOOOOOH boy........................ :saywhat:

Hmmm, glad your back on topic there buddy.
;) :D
LOL - That's always on topic, i don't care who you are - the gorgeous woodland scenery, I mean. :D
Don't worry, Lee, as long as she hits ya in those "Guns" it won't hurt - tooooo bad - LOL.
I think that if I ever have to chance to meet the lass, it'll be a blessing for me for sure.
Someday, somewhere, I am almost positive our paths will cross.
God bless,Mudd

Nice and funny, never met. :banghead: :deadhorse:
Can't figure out that shooting form! ;)
One way to never lose an arrow is to never let go of it.
Aw-www, she is just a good (strong) archer and is "pausing" her release to check her arrowhead lashing - (or perhaps just checking her underarm deodorant - ;) )
I've never met the Lady, but there is definately something special about her " Make-Up" God for a world full of woman like Kiley! LOL .Would really enjoy meeting her one day!
If she would just head west to Mojam soon...Sure would like to meet her as would a bunch more of us.
A chilled bottle of Kansas mead would be waiting for her at my camp.(It tends to be a tad warm for "spirits" at Mojam...) ;)
