What do you recommend for a 54#@28" recurve drawn to 28.5" using full length shafts in the Beman MFX series? Looking at the shaft recommendation chart I'm getting a recommended spine of 340 or 300 depending on if I include the weight of the HIT insert which I assume I should. The MFX doesn't even come in a 300. I was going to order 400s, but then looked at the chart and now I'm not sure...
This seems pretty stiff compared to what I've been using. I have had good results with 30.5" ACCs, 3-49 (400) spine with 175gr points.
I shoot a 55# zipper sxt. I'm shooting the .400 easton FMJ's and just bought 400 mfxs. With the FMJ's I was shooting 175 grn heads with a 100 grain brass adapter, 29 1/4" arrows. My draw is just over 28".
I'd say the 400's would be your ticket.
I tried the 340's and 400's in my longbows, and the 400's shoot the best. My arrows are 31" BOP and my bows are 53# @ 28" and 55# @ 28" I draw 29.5 and the 400's fly the best out of both bows. I think you should go with the 400's as well.
Good Luck
Tom
I get good arrow flight with 30" 500's with 225 grains up front from bows from 50 lbs to 55 lbs.
Ive been shooting the 500s out of a 49@29 bow and a 54@29 bow
Thanks for the help. I'll give the 400s a try.
I draw 60# at 27.5" on my Schafer. If I use the .400's with 100 grain inserts and a 150 head, with the shaft at 29" it shoots pretty good. Heavy enough too, that setup is right around 550 grains.
It took me a while to realize the way to bareshaft those is to leave them long with the inserts epoxied in... Then to shorten it, take it off the nock end.
I went with the mfx shaft this past year.I shot a bear green stripe with 55pd. Limbs.I used the 340's at 30" with a 50gn. Insert and 200 gn. Head for a 615gn. Arrow. They shot great for me. Dan
Hope far is the shelf cut in? That will make a difference. I would think 400's would be perfect. You can change point weight and arrow length enough to make then fly right.
I shoot Beman 500's at 28in with 200-225grs of tip weight depending on which bow I am shooting. I can also shoot the 400 shaft at 30in with the same setup. I would suggest going with the 400's and heavy insert unless you plan on shooting a ligth weight insert in the 500 shaft.
This works for me
