Bowaholic...... went to Kazoo this weekend with no intentions of buying a bow, well there just happened to be one used bow that i had to shoot. It was a Big River 59er, made by John McDonald. Well to make this story short, the bow shot great....... So i called John and asked him what he would charge me to make me a NEW one. Well there you have it , i ordered ANOTHER custom BIG RIVER BOW!!! :knothead: Is there any Cure for this sickness??
No!
God bless,Mudd

Didn't I just read the other day he has like a 3 year waiting list?
If that is the Big River 59er that Footed Shaft had I shot it also and loved it! Almost went home with me, but I put it off till "later" and then forgot to go back for it.
If there is a cure, I hope I never find it.
Rafael:
That Big River 59' that is at the Footed Shaft booth was once my bow.
I have owned and shot many, many recurve bows over the last few decades of shooting including all the models John builds and his 59' ranks in the top two or three.
The only recurves I like as well or better are the Bruins built be another great WI Bowyer Mike Steliga.
Good luck with your issues related to bow buying. I certainly am not one to give advice.
Enjoy your new Big River. Knowing John you'll probably have it in less than a month.
Jay
mudd is the one that should know. loyd
I knew you were a goner when I saw the look in your eyes before you even shot the bow. Putting a McDonald bow in front of you is like money in the bank for John.
Now of course you have taken a whole different road in your bow buying career. Up to now you only had to worry about being tempted by longbows. 59r recurve are a brand new world to explore. :goldtooth:
MikeW,that's John McCullough your thinking about

Yes, that is exactly the bow i shot. I am not really a recurve guy, but a very good Friend of mine named Dave Ricke' made me a recurve and i am growing to love them a lil more. So i figure whats wrong with adding a John McDonald 59er ,to my stable of 6 Big Rivers i already have???

Jay, I was not sure how much i would like shooting the particular bow, cuz of the way the riser grip is shaped, I only shot the 5 arrows i had in my Quiver and knew i was in Trouble. John's exact words were, I can start it right away i don't have anything else going on at the moment! :knothead:

Well he kept on prodding me, like he does so well, so out to the truck i went like a sheep to the slaughter! Not even 15 mins later i am on the phone with Mr. McDonald. I am so weak :dunno:
You are not yet strong weedhopper, only when you can see a Bigriver on the rack & not buy it will you truely be healed of your sickness. I do not see that happening any time soon. :D

Sorry brother...I tried to warn ya! I wish I could help but I have no idea how to! :help:
Rafael, That's great. :readit:
oh and dont shoot anymore of John's bows unless you have the money. ;) ;)
Rafael:
Ask John if he will shape the limb tips like the one that you saw at the Footed Shaft booth.
That ones has nice small pointed tips like an original 59'.
I've owned a couple others that he built with these kind of square, thumbnail looking tips more like a late 60's early 70's Bear and they are nowhere near as attractive on a bow like that with those sleek slim lines.
I just wish he made that bow in 64" for us guys with longer draws.

Raf doesn't have that problem J.......His draw is so short I don't think he has arms!
There IS a cure but it's very painful and most can't get through it!
