Title: installing BW spider silencers
Post by: targets3D on January 26, 2012, 03:49:00 AM
Can anyone tell me how to install spider silencers on the string. They have 2 holes in them not sure if string should go through them or is this just the spider's eyes!

the 2 holes in the body is where you put them in your string. Just seperate your string ( the red and black) and put the spiders in.

OK - I am having trouble visualizing this. Does the string go through the 2 holes? Anyone have a pic?

The holes you're referring to are slit so as already stated above just seperate the two colors and lay red into one slit and black into the other.  You'll also find that these silencers can be slid up and down the string even when strung for fine tuning.

Thanks. Got in now. Any recommendation on how far apart from the limb tips they should go? Also how far apart below if using 4 silencers on a bow. I am using it on a 56" radical reflex/deflex longbow.

How long is the bow? On my 60" bows I put them at 8 and 12 inches from where the string makes contact with the limb. hope this helps.

3D

I'm using 2 (one on each limb) on my pronghorns. I start by dividing the string length on the bow - In this case for my 62" is 59.5" divided by 4 = 14.87". So I start at 15" from where the string contacts the bow (in this case at the nock) measure 15" install the spider. Usually I don't have to move them but they can be pushed up or down until you are satisfied with the results.

Man I am a HUGE black widow fan and I think those silencers look kind of cool, but they are not very effective in my opinion/experience.

I use 4 and have them spaced at 10" and 16" on each respective end of my 60" BW MAII.  I've also used woolie whispers and cat whiskers over the years and they work as well.  However, the spiders work for me and you can't beat the setup time.

Ditto Greg. I don't think they work at all. Wooly Whispers are much more effective.

i was iffy about those myself till i tried them on my bow, they do work very well!! also dont worry about trying to get them to sit horizontal in the string, put em on and let them settle and they will work great.

Funny you guys should mention the spider's ineffectiveness.....I never could get them to work as well on my BW(s) as mink balls but they work awesome on my Pronghorns....

They do work on my 60" PSAV (2 @ the top & 2 @ bottom) but on my new string, I won't put tim on, I think they look goofy...
