Is there a noise difference between Parabolic or Shield feathers? I was told that Parabolic were quieter is there any truth to that or is it just personal preference?
In general, most people would probably say that parabolic is quieter. But there are other factors - length, amount of offset/helical, etc. I've switched to 4" shield, with minimal helical, and I'd say that they are as quiet as they need to be.
I've personally never noticed a difference, but like you I've heard the same thing. Shoot mostly shields...
search function....just saying
Yes it's true..for the most part.
It has been my experience that shields are noisy, parabolics are not.
High back sheilds are noisier than standard parabolic and sheild.standard sheild noise is very minimal and not a deficiancy
I havent noticed a marked difference.
I feel the height of the feather has more to do with noise.I've had high back 5.5" parabolic that was just as noisy as the sheild cut.
I've shot both shapes and in a 5" length, my ears tell me the parabolic is quieter in flight.

Right on the money.
To me the shields are slightly noisier, but they look really cool on my arrows so I'll keep using them.
Good Luck.
I've found that if otherwise identical new feathers, parabolic is slightly quieter than shield. After I shoot them for a while I don't notice any difference.
I agree with Moon. I shoot 5 1/2 inch Shields.... I'm sure they are noisier, but the more skilled I get, the deafer the deer seem to be :-)

I would have to agree with Night Wing on this one.
Jason
after having two deer jump the string i did a little experimenting and found for me the parabolic was definitely quieter.
