Now that i have had my new Raven for a month. Wanted to give a report. This bow at 56 inches has no hand shock, whisper quiet, fast,no finger pinch. My KWYK STYK has been the recurve for me for 4 years. IMO this Raven is the ultimate hunting bow for me. The string on the Ravens static limb does not lay on the limb as much as it does on the KWYK STYK. FYI. The riser is same lenght as my 56 inch KWYK STYK 13 inches. My KS is 56 inches tip to tip but the Raven is 53 inches tip to tip this is both strung. It draws butter smooth with no finger pinch what so ever even at this lenght. Must be the static limbs.
Anyone thinking of getting a bow from Jack, should take a good long look at his new Raven Recurve with static limbs.
It is a hunters bow! IMO,
Randy
What weight are the bows.
Rj
Do you have pix? What is your drw length? I have 2 56 inch QS with static limbs and you've gotten me intrigued

TTT
I bought a 58" Raven with the longbow limbs from Whitetail Chaser just before this season. WOW! Quick, ultra smooth, whisper quiet. 5 hogs, two deer, a coon at 21yds and best of all a gobbler at 19yds. I love Jacks bows. I bet those recurve limbs are incredible.
Here are the pics of my Raven next to my Kwyk Styk. What do you think?

Beautiful bows!
As requested, I'm posting a few pics of my Raven with the longbow limbs. I also have a KS but Jack has the riser and is building me another set of limbs and I just acquired a Kempf Trophy Hunter Longbow that's a great shooter too. Jack sure makes a mean bow.

That black bow is prettier than a brittany pup!
holy .. very nice I do however think all you Kempf fans are really missing out on the best kept secert which is the Stealth I own a couple of Kwyk Styks and a Couple of Stealths and I would part with my Kwyk Styks before my stealths left my hands .. ask Joe Skipp That being said I have a Raven on the list and it will be all Black as all ravens should be ! :readit:
Gordon lets see those stealths.Don't tease us.
Come on Gorden, shouldnt a Stealth be black too?
Randy
The guy I hunt with has a Stealth and a Kwyk Styk and he favors the Stealth too. Right now it's going to be tough to get either of my Kempf longbows out of my hands;)
Let's see those Stealth pics Gordon!
Cocobolo Riser/Stained Red Elm limbs. 60" 58# at 27". The wife and dog will go before I part with my Stealth.... :scared:  :nono:

Good looking bows. Do all of you have the Guru grip on the Ravens?
Troy; Absolutely gorgeous, i'm going to have a little talk with Jack tomorrow, i thought MY Raven was supposed to be the Sharpest Looking! :notworthy: :notworthy:

Jack only does them for the really cool dudes :biglaugh:
Thanks Sergio! I'm not sure there's another as purdy as that black beauty you have;)
I really don't know what grip it has but it's perfect for me! I have not missed with this bow yet. I'll say it's probably the "money" grip cuz this baby has been nothing but money since I got ahold of it;)
The "money" grip...I like that Aggie! :archer:
But you guys are making this one a little tough on me ;)

Just kidding buddy,
Randy
Randy; I actually think that Joe was showing off his "male model" legs rather than his bows. hee hee!
Sergio would like to see your raven strung with longbow limbs.
Allright I will try and post a couple of pics of my Stealths ,,Guru shot dart league with Jack tonight ,he told my he had your riser glued up and had finished the layout for your limbs he tells me the veneers for your limbs are the best he has seen , should be a show stopper and real good shooter !! :wavey:
Sergio, some of these boys down here in Alabama might like them legs. LOL.I think thats why he wont come down here./he says its the snakes but now i know its them legs. HEE HEE.
Randy
Gord, You're killin' me bud...cant wait to see it!
What is a Guru grip?
Greg, the Guru grip is a grip that is almost as good as the "Sergio" grip.LOL :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
Ben, coming soon at a Tradgang near you! :campfire:
Is there a website to get some more information on these bows?
Blaine, do a search here on tradgang. It has the best collection of pics available. Jack has a website but it doesn't have a pic of the Raven.

Serg, since your bow is ugly now,I can't believe I just said that,I will buy it from you so you can go and get a pretty one. No use you hanging on to an ugly bow. :biglaugh:
I would Mike, because I have an idea for an even prettier one ! However i do a lot of my own work on my bows (especially the finish and grip) and i do not have time right now. So i guess i,m stuck with this ugly one for now. LOL.

Can't blame a guy for trying. :banghead:
There isn't a snake alive going to sink any fangs in my pretty legs... :scared:
Got my snake boots AND Turtleskin gaiters sitting by the bow rack....when I do come down Randy...the temps should be hovering around 30-40... :jumper:
Then I'll feel comfy...and by the way....
The STEALTH T/D is Kempfs best kept secret...Gordon and I are on the same page on this one....plus a few of my past customers. :archer2: ;)
Joe, can you get Jacks one piece in 56 inch?
Randy
Sergio you are killing me!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey Rizzo...here's the story behind "The Guru grip"...
Back in late '96 when I was ordering my first KS, I wanted it to have the same grip as the only other recurve I owned...my original Paul Schafer Silvertip that I'd ordered from Paul back in'86. It's a grip that Paul considered his version of a low wrist. It has a rather small throat circumfrence.
Even though I told him that I shot with a straight wrist, he thought this low wrist would be best for me...Paul knew best!
So when I was time for my KS, I wanted it to have the same grip as my 'Tip.
Here's where my taxidermy experience came in....
I made a cardboard mold around the grip from above the shelf, to about an inch below the grip. out of dental Alginate...the stuff dentists put in youd mouth to make a mold of your teeth.
When I had it built and all holes closed up with tape, except for a pour hole on top, I poured in dental Alginate...
After a few minutes the Alginate set up. I took off the cardboard from around it. Then with a single cut, took the mold off of the riser.
Closed the Alginate mold off on the bottom, then closed up the seam created by the cut.
Next using a pourable mixture of Bondo and Fiberglass resin I poured it into the mold. let it sit till set up good and took off the Alginate fron around it....wa-la!
Perfect duplicate of my 'Tip grip without having to send the whole riser to Canada
Joe sent it off the Jack with my order...
Fast forward to 2007 when I was talking to Jack about another bow he was gonna make for me. I asked him if he needed me to make another bondo grip to send him....
His response was...."I still have your other one"
After 10yrs...he still had my original!
So he made "Cy" with the same grip.
Then as others were sending me pm's and emails from this site and asking me about what kind of grip I had on my bows....I told them about what I'd done...
Jack has made a bunch of bows now with it, both right and left handed versions.
I believe it was first coined by my bud Peter Iacavazzi..."The Guru Grip"
It seems everyone that tries my bow loves it.
So there you have the story....legendary :biglaugh:
BTW...."Cy" is all yours after Febuary if you want for a while bud.
Great story Curt! I've heard bits and pieces before but never the whole thing. It appears to be a sweet looking grip. To me grip is everything. I almost know if I will like a bow once I grab a hold of it.
I'll be in touch about "CY". Thanks.
Good luck at the shoot.
Guru,
Do you have close up pics of your grip?
Thanks,
Doug
We need to see this grip, great story.
You guys are funny! I'll try to get some pix of "The Guru Grip" for you guys.
I really don't think it's anything special or magical....but...the legend grows :campfire:
TTT for Curt!
Thanks Curt, my new KS will be sporting your namesake!!
Some pix of what has become to be known as "The Guru grip"....
Like I said earlier, not sure it's anything special...but a lot of archers seem to like it...
These pix are of my first KS "Timex" that I got in '97...

Curt,I see that hand polished grip,it looks you have used the bow for quite a while.I love it!
I must be part of the Guru tribe,my grip on my Raven looks just like that. LOL. Curt,it is a nice grip.
Randy

Randy
I just got off the phone with Jack and since i have a 30in draw he said i might could get away with the 58in but there's no way i would take that chance.
He gave me a list of the bows he makes and if anyone has one i would love to see it.
Quick Styck
Little Grizzly
Trophy
Thanks guys!!!!
Nice :bigsmyl:
Joe, It's well doecumented here lately on some Kwyk Styk/Kempf threads that, "bowhunter4life" Jeff Berbrick...who has owned/ shot probably more bows than anyone I know....has fallen deeply in luv with his 56" Kwyk Styks...and he has a solid 30" draw and is a great shot(I've seen him shoot). If he feels comfortable with such a short bow, and feels there is no "compromise" in shootablitiy, I'd tend to take his word for it.
"Bo knows"...but Jeff "knows bows" :archer2:
Search some of the older threads, plenty of pix and opinions.
One thing to remember is that no matter what length bow you get in the KS/Raven, the limbs are the same length....only thing that changes with length, is the riser.
The smoothness is built in the limbs. Only thing you'll really gain I think is sight window. Don't really think finger pinch is an issue with the static limbs.
My KS #1 was made 60@27"....I now draw 28.5 and I feel no pinch or "stack" at all at that length and it's silky smooth all the back to my ear if I want to draw that far.
Jack's 56" bows are "different"!
Thanks Guru i will sure check into that, i have 14 months of research ahead of me.
