Well, after taxes were figured, the boss vetoed me getting a brand new bow. But, I was able to come up with this classic gem for a few bucks!
62", 45# @ 28", Browning Explorer II. She has some light cosmetic issues. As does most things this old

Nice!
Good shooting there too!
slick bow. looks like a widow/bear cross
ya gotta love those old Brownings. I would never sell my 50" Cobra...great turkey bow.
well Sir, You just got one of my favorite bows. The cosmetic problems make it even more appealing to me. It would let me spend some time with her , sanding refinishing and making her into one of my best friends. I do love those bows.
God bless you, Steve
Nice looking bow.
Yeah, I agree. That's a beautiful bow and a perfect candidate for a home refinish project. Looks like you shoot it well too. Congrats.
Good looking bow, TW. I have a Safari 2 that I picked up. Nice bows!
Thanks everyone! This bow sure has a glare to the finish though. I think I will need to put some 3R's limb socks on it before using it to hunt with. I've not figured out a bow quiver yet but, Charlie(Stumpkiller) recommended the GN adjustable strap on. Sure wish I could find something original to put on it.
You picked up a very nice looking bow. I don't have one but hope to someday. You could have a fun winter project refinishing it if you wanted to.

Great looking bow. I shot a Browning compound for 20 years that looked almost identical, except it had wheels on the ends. :bigsmyl: Good luck with it.
Nice looking bow and group!
I hear those bows are fabulous shooting bows. Congrats! Great shooting. You are ready to hunt now!
that bow is not only nicer looking but better performing than Most of the cheaper costing Production bows out now.
a nice bow and a very smart decision..
Now that's some good shooting, and those old bows are a lot of fun to shoot. Good luck with it.
Love the old Brownings. You mentioned getting 3Rivers limb socks... I tried a set on my Pearson Colt (also a batwing bow, could pass as a twin) and couldn't get them to fit over the riser flares.
I wouldn't put on limb socks. You can buy Leafy Wear tape in ASAT. It's called Vanish Pro 3D Tape.
Available at ASAT Outdoors, LLC
Joe, does that stuff leave a sticky residue when you take it off?
What a great bow. A 62" Browning would be a nice one to find. Good luck with it.
Bow has been dubbed "Jorja" by the boss. When I asked her why, she said, "It just looks like a Jorja." This coming from someone who has never called my bows by anything and hasn't showed no interest in doing such a thing. I spelled it like the state but, she corrected me on that also.
So, I figure I had better not change it and incur her raised eye and, perhaps this thing will have Mojo!
Those old Brownings are sweet bows, and that one is a beauty. Well Done!
You can just refinish that old girl and use a satin finish on it.....won't need any tape or limb covers........she'll look good to!!
Ron, I agree but, I won't be able to have it refinished 'til probably next year. I was thinking I could just wax the limbs and not wipe it off. That should take away a lot of the glare.
Great looking bow and looks to be a good shooter too. Congrats on the find!
Nice bow, congrats.
My brother just lent me a Nomad I,great little bows I like the riser cut detail on yours
You could do it yourself......jump right in there and go for it....don't be afraid....I know you can do it. Hunting season is a long way off!!
Unfortunately I am as bout as talented as a stick. This thing would never be the same if I got to work on it! :scared:
Buck up buttercup!
The bowyers forum will help. It's super easy and will bring you and Georgia closer (sorry, I am born and raised in Georgia and it is sacreligious to spell it any other way). Ray Charles sang it best...
Good luck with the new slinger, y'all seem to like each other by the looks of that group...
Zeke, part of this issue is not having a work shop or space to do it in.
Sorry, 'bout the name spelling but, the boss is the boss, and I was lucky to get this bow!
I pull the ole girl to 29" and she is a real smoothy. The grip is a little bulkier than I'm used to but, the more I'm shooting it, the more I'm getting used to it.
I'm just busting your chops. Those are great bows. My first bow kill was a browning compound when I was 12 so they have good mojo!
No offense taken my friend. I sure hope this one is full of mojo. I'm hoping to get a chance to go after an Eastern Oregon mule deer this year.
Outstanding! The recurve Limbskins won't fit over the mass "humps" on the riser ends (I know this for sure as I tried). Instead I used temporary camo tape on mine.
Great bow. THE ADMIRAL has instructions to put my Explorer in the coffin beside me before lighting the pyre and jumping on top. I'm using my Cobra II currently and hoping to take a deer next Fall, but my Explorer still shoots better in my hands. I've never owned or shot a bow I consider it's superior.
It is an unusual grip. VERY high. I like it, but a longbow shooter would be in a different world with it.
Thanks Charlie! I hope you do as well with the Cobra as you did with the Explorer! Does the camo tape leave a residue?
This one is on my short list! Very nice bow and shooting.
 Nice bow.
Brownings are great bows. Don't worry about refinishing it. It will shoot just as nice and you won't worry about getting a few dings and dents in it. Besides it has character.
My rule of thumb with any bow or old gun I buy is do nothing to it except clean it for 3 months and you'd be surprised how the dents and dings grow on you and you loose the desire to refinish it and keep them original.
I have not been disappointed with any of the 4 old brownings I have owned.
I have one now that I wish didn't shoot so good because I need to get rid of a few :banghead:
Nice bow you got there. I had a Browning Safari II that i sold a while back. It actually was my first hunting bow. Wish i had it back. :banghead:

Joe,
Thats a nice Cobra. I had one, gave it to an uncle.
Now my dad has one in very good condition.
Great bow, never had the explorer but had several other Brownings all were very good. The Explore was just to expensive for me back then. Sure wish I would have just bought one no matter the cost.
I've got to admit, the more I shoot this thing, the more I'm liking it better than my Dream Catcher. I'm getting stoked about this bow!
This should help if you want to do a refinish. I

P.M. me with your email if you want a edited copy.
So, I played around with the setup a little more this morning, and after filing the nock a little, reset brace to 7 1/2" and adding 175gr field tip on an AD Trad Lite, I think I've got her tuned in better. This ole girl really is fantastic!
