Title: Found my next batch of hood foam today for just over $12.00!
Post by: Keefer on January 21, 2012, 10:57:00 AM
If you don't care if it's purple or pinkish I saw a block of somewhat heavy dense type material that has the same texture as most foam inserts for just over $12.00 and you get two blocks that are @3"thick by about 6"x9" rectangler....It was in the exercise equipment isle somewhere..You could always cut a piece of leather and adhere it to the foam to hide the purple/pink if you afraid of being seen with that color with some plumber's goop or household goop...It's a block for doing push ups or Yoga but just thought it would help some of us here who needs some quick foam...I'm sure you could cut it in little workable pieces with a "hack em off saw" and shape it to fit your quiver's of choice, broadhead box's,p.v.c bow case's and well you get the picture...I had something that looks like the same material and shaped with by bench sander till it fit my quiver a few years ago...Forgive me if I wasn't able to mention that here but lots of people are looking for foam for quivers and you were on my thought list when I saw this stuff....P.m. me if you need to know where I seen it...P.s. I found it elsewhere also and you can get black or olive green also for $6.00 a block and they have cork solid blocks...God Bless,

I didn't purchase any I just looked at it and squeezed the material to see if it was quiver worthy and it sure is....I had some like it that felt the same and put into a E.F.A. quiver that I sold to a friend...I just wanted to share this to all cause it can make a lifetime supply for whoever wants to check it out...It felt just like my old worn insert I had in it...

Good post. Do you have any pics? I'm thinking I could use this for repairing my in door target?

Thanks

Wes,
If you get any could you tell everyone what ya think of the stuff?  People it's called a "Yoga Block" and if you search this stuff it is very cheap in cost and comes in a load of colors...They even make a cork block and it has the density as a rineheart 18 target...You could even make some small animal tarkets from this stuff.. What I seen and squeezed today was at a big store that is in nearly every town   :)  Look in that yoga stuff section... Keefers <><

I use dense foam hunting seat cushions and pick them for about 4$ at the end of season when wally world wants to clean them out. I just glue them together to get 3" and they work great too.

Those pliable foam boogie or surf boards make good aerial targets as well when you cut them in 9" circles.

I have found them at yard sales and flea markets. Usually under $5 a piece. I got 6 full 9" circles from one board and some smaller circles too.

good score Keefer...for a little over 12 bucks I've got enough to replace the foam about 12 times. the stuff works fine...and no I don't mind the blue color (thta's all they had). A sharp knife and in less then 15 minutes I replaced two hoods with new foam!

Guys, this stuff works great.  Holds my woodsmans elites Perfect in my back quiver.  Arrows don't move an inch and protects the bottom. Thumbs up to Keefer!

Wes,
That's good to hear that it did indeed work for you..Now would you compare that material like the rinehart density or as good as most quiver foam inserts?  From what I saw it was very simular...

To me it's very close if not the sane type material if you don't mind the color. It wasn't a big deal to me.  It seems like it will last a while, and if it doesn't, then I've got more than enough to replace it. Great find!

Wes,
I did do a search on the web for Yoga Blocks and there are some colors in Black,Olive Green ,and several other colors as well..Some of those place's had free shipping and I even saw a block called the "Super Block" and was thinking it could make a  Target....Also if someone here needs replacment foam for the Kill zone on there 3-d Deer Targets this block will be perfect with very little trimming...Remember those blocks were 3"x 6"x 9" and you get a two pack...Use some Plumbers Goop and let it dry overnight and you have a new Kill zone...

Yeah, I think they would be a perfect replacement for 3D targets, Didn't think about that.  If you could find them big enough, they could even be used as a broadhead target.  You might have to glue some together like Keefer said.

Wes,
I was searching for those Dock floats that are used under a dock to make it float and I never seen one up close but just wondering if that material was like the material used in the rineharts?  It would make one very nice backstop style target and be used at many ranges as well if it is simular in density...Anyone know of where they could look at it's make up?

Keefer,
I think There is a place nearby that manufactures those floating docks. I'll have to check it out and see if it what you are talking about.
