If you lost all your bows, which one bow would you buy if you had to shoot it for one year or longer?
Give name/model of longbow or recurve:
What poundage and length:
I will start-mine would be a Centaur "Chimera XLT" 44#@28" and 62" length.
CHX :)
Firefly Route66 60" 53#@28!!
Widow PCH - 56", 54 lbs at 28", Asbell grip
60" Bruin Woodsmaster T/D recurve 45-50# @ 28". I could shoot this bow the rest of my life and never really go wanting.
Another Firefly here.
Schafer Silvertip Recurve 62" 66@29
Schafer
I'd be making a call to Big Jim for another Thunderchild, but it would be a really long year waiting .
Any JD Berry 64" 60#
58" Morrison Shawnee LB 60@26 with all the fancies. I could just see it now, she is beautiful.
wes wallace stealth
If I survived losing all my Toelke bows, I would order another 62" Classic Whip, 50lbs. @28" (53 lbs. or so at my 29" draw).
Another Kanati with about the same specs as the one I already have: 58" and 45-50# @ 28". I'd probably opt for an actionwood riser instead of dymondwood. I can't imagine finding a bow I'd like or shoot any better.
If we're talking about custom, it would be my Leon Stewart 64" or 66". If were talking about production bows, It would have to be either a 1964 or 1965 Bear Kodiak, all 50 @ 28.
a Black Widow PLX Osage Longbow .....
66" 55# @ 28" .....

I would buy a shrew classic hunter, 50lb @27"
I'm kinda messing with that decision right now. Probably either a 62" Great Northern Critter Gitter,
or a 58" Centaur glass, both low 50's at 26".
I know I would like another Big River R/D longbow.
If I could only have one, it would be 68" and 47-48 lbs @28"
I would be at Leon Stewarts tomorrow morning for a Slammer Special - 64in. and 45# pulling my hair out trying to decide on what wood to pick....
60" Black Widow PMA 56# @ 28"
My GO-TO Bow!
Without a doubt, I would buy another Predator Classic- 50#@28" and 60". :notworthy: :campfire:
:scared: :banghead: :banghead: If I was to loose them all  I would first replace my 56" 55# Static Tipped Kwyk Styk.
Hopefully with a nice used one.
I'm not sure I could be without a bow for the lenght of Jack's build time... I'd be checking "Froggy" out real quick to see if he had or new of another. ;) Gene :
Northern Mist Classic 70", 70#s or heavier.
A Blacktail T/D 60" 57lb. It was worth the wait in '99. it would be worth it again!
Any Hill any style in the 70# class
I think I would like a mild reflex/deflex "D" longbow, with bamboo core and yew veneer, 70" 60#@30(maybe 70#) , some thing like a JD Berry?? I might just order one in the next year.... if I can sale a few things!!
A 64" 50# Robertson Purist(Primal Styk).
Apex Predator Sapelo, 66" 45@27". Great Bow and Marty is a great Bowyer. First class quality and priced right. My "go to bow".
Any Howared Hill with bamboo limbs 68" @50lb with grey glass and a straight grip....oh yeah!
I'd have to ask Robertson to build me another Peregrine 50#@28 60"
Pronghorn takedown Longbow 62" 52@28
58"er of a Kanati....no hesitation !
A replacement for my Cari-Bow Peregrine..48 @ 27.
Zipper sxt riser with the longbow limbs 62 inches 55@28. Basically just remake my current bow
Longbow
Used - Jack B Harrison HSS
New - Ken Roloff Whippenstick
Recurve
Used - John Fazio Ballistick
New - Jack Kempf - Kwyk Styk or Ken Roloff Inferno
No question about it.... replace with one of Jack's static limb Kwyk Styks, 56", 50# @ 28", but then I'm on his list to get a Raven in the next couple of weeks, so that would also do... heehee, can't wait.
I would replace my 62" Tomahawk Diamond Series SS 55 @ 28"
Mohawk :archer2: !
i dont know why, but ive shot a handful of bighorn recurves and they seem to fit me like a hand in a glove......
Either a Beeler Tracker or Saluki Scythian =).
I'd replace my 60' 57@28 Fox longbow. Bought it used on the classifieds and have been shooting it for 5 years.
No doubt in my mind! Well after I gathered myself from the loss of my old bows..
62" Morrison Shawnee, A-riser, E-Carbon Foam limbs, medium grip with 1/2 pinecones, pretty exotic woods (maybe Osage/Gaboon Ebony), Copperheads... Have to have one of those as they just flat out shoot for me.
I'd also have to order or find a 56"/65# +/- static tipped Kwyk Styk... best recurve I've ever owned/shot.
Only ONE :scared:
I would replace my Thunderhorn longbow, 62" 45# @ 27".
Would have to tell Norm Johnson I need another Snakebit.
Another MOAB 60" 60@28
acs 3 piece 62" 49@28 the adcock i have now is the best shooting bow i have had out of a hundred other ones. my confidence and 3d scores soared, and it hits as hard as my 58lb pch at 9 less pounds with the same arrow. dont think i need a recurve just the acs.
Without hesitation another Bama Hunter. It would be 66" 50@28 with a B50 flemish twist string.
No hesitation for me. RER LX 3 piece longbow. I haven't been shooting it much lately, but I should be. It's the best shooting bow (for me) I've ever owned, and I've owned a bunch.
With out a doubt...another Big River Longbow...Smoothest, quietest bows I have ever shot!!!!!

YEAAAP!!!! :archer: :goldtooth:
Treadway "Black Swamp" 56", 48# @28"
A Bigfoot Sasquatch T/D Longbow or Recurve: 63# at 29 in, 60 inches in length. The smoothest and fastest bow, I have ever shot.
Make another, longbow 66-68#, 68"
Thats a tough decision to make, either a new Zipper or a 58 inch acscx.
I would have to say my 62" 50lbs at 29" bob lee heavyweight im really liking this bow the more I shoot it, can't get enough
Another 56" Shrew CH, 67#s at my DL.
Chris Cox bow.Best build quality out there.
Abbott longbow 62" 45#@26"
Silvertip recurve. 62" 55@29. Checkered grip.
Without a doubt, I would order a replacement Black Widow PLX, at 52# @ 31". 66", Toby grip, and take-down.
Right now I only have one bow. If I lost it, I would bur either a 7 Lakes or a Liberty Longbow.
Without hesitation a Black Widow PSAV, 45#, 60" with Asbel grip.
It will be a Foley Recurve 48 # at 28-62"
As long as it doesn't have to be new, because I couldn't endure a bowless wait time..
Habu Recurve
60"
48#@26"
Macassar Riser
Cocobolo Limbs
Habu -Vyperkahn
Triple Carbon LB Limbs
Cocobola
62"
51#@28
mohawk sparrowhawk t/d/, 64", 54@29
Zipper SXT recurve
In a heartbeat - another Anneewakee Addiction (by Lee Hoots). Preferably 54" Recurve, 47-50# at 28", predominantly black (be nice if the grip stippling "accidently" incorporated a nice Black Bear in the pattern, and one of the new thumb rests - but I guess that'd put it into the custom category - LOL)
Wes Wallace Mentor recurve 66" 55# @29"
Silvertip RC 62",51#@29"
Without a doubt my 58" Zipper SXT recurve 52#@28"
It would be off to the classifieds to find the best deal on a bow that fit my specs......might be a Widow or a Zipper ,a Silvertip,an Osprey by Chad Holm, maybe a Centaur or a Mohawk. I would look for the best deal at the time and buy it to fill the bow-less void.
MOAB 60" 55# at 28"
Great Norther Bushbow, 62", and 60# @ 28".
Thunderstick III, 66 in, 55 @28, Osage and Cocobolo, Bamboo cores. I could get along just fine.
For me, it would be a Zipper with carbon and foam in the limbs.
Blacktail Elite one piece recurve, 64" 50#@28".
Just one? Come on Ken.
I would get a Griffin 60" 44@28.
Wait, Centaur, glass model same specs.
Wait, wait, Super Shrew same specs.
How many did you say I could have? :dunno:
Base model 60 " RH Schafer Silvertip with Lamboo limb cores built for Fast Flight string with checkered grip. If I could talk Dave into foam cores, I would add that as well ;) 56 lbs at 28".
64-inch, 50# A&H ACS 3-piece.
Or maybe a 50# Liberty Chief Elite
Or a 60-inch Bear Custom Kodiak
Or a 64-inch Robertson longbow
Or a 66-inch Hill
Or........... :dunno:
Mine would be one of the same 2 that are on my to own list now, either a RER Vortec II, 60" 52#@28 or a Hoots 56" 52#@28 longbow. Shot both of these last year at Kazoo along with just about every other bow I could get my hands on there. These 2 were above everything else I shot for me!!!!
Great Northern Critter Gitter
A 62" Blacktail VL Elite 55#@28" AND a 62" Liberty Edge 52#@28".........just have to have a recurve and a R/D longbow.
PSAX 50#@28", 60" long.
I think I would have to search for one of the eight remaining Rose Oak Companions.
Black Widow PCHX 58" 50@28
Liberty Edge, 64" 53lb Cocobolo riser & yew limbs
I would build one! Elm, Ironwood or osage self bow
Wes Wallace Royal Takedown, 68 inch, 50lb @ 28" -Cocabolo Riser, Ebony veneers.
Firefly longbow from Jim Jones!
AMO 66" 50@31
Can't imagine not having my Big Jim Buff...
Schafer Silvertip 60" 71@28
Apex Predator Ossabaw, High Performance longbow.
Although I hate the long wait, I'd have to order another 66" Blacktail recurve, 40# @ 30".
The only problem, deciding between a take down or a one piece.
Bigfoot Sasquatch recurve. 64"(62" please Kirk?) 65lb @31" Never shot one but...this is all hypothetical right?
RER 3 piece TD recurve. Best dang bow I've ever shot, hands down.
hmm I'll say another Widow PLX - Bacote T/D - 62" 53@28 - it's what I'm shooting now, but who knows what next month will bring :bigsmyl:
Hmmmmm, probably a Hill Wesley Special, 68", straight grip, and 45-50#@28".
So I would have one bow that I would have to completely trust to do anything I need a bow to do, with no backup???
As of today it would have to be:
Howard Hill - Big Five - 70" drawing 60# at 31"
I hope I feel the same way about a new Bigfoot bow in the coming weeks!
Thom
if I lost all of mine i would cry. dont have the money to replace the hunterbow.
For the money i would end up ordering another economical archery omega hybrid or a mad dog.
if i had the cash then the hunter bow will be back on order
Bob Lee stickbow 66" 52#@28 Natural (bubinga & curly maple).
Orrrrrr...
I've been looking at basically the same thing in a Toelke Whip.
Bbbbuut...
If it's only one, then maybe a TD. Nah.
This is a tough one, a lays potato chip delema
so I'll say an Acadian signature recurve with all
the trimmings 66" 60#@29
The new longbow by Mike at Legends Bows. I got the first one and I take delivery soon (I will post pics soon). I test drove the new bow before he finished it and with my 530gr arrows it posted 3 arrows at 186 fps. the final wt will be 60lbs @ 31.5in. It wasnt the speed that impressed me though, it was the fact that I am used to a recurve and I shot this. It is very smooth and even though it is slightly heavier than my rc, it was like I was pulling a lighter wt bow. I cant wait to start shooting it every day.
Longbow would be my Wild horse creek Hawk 62" 44# @ 28, it is a wenge riser with bocote flair and tamo ash veneers. Just the one I like to shoot the most.
Recurve would be my Widow Pchx that is also 44# @ 28 and is 56" long. It is a leopardwood riser with olive ash limbs and an asbell grip.
Both of these bows are very satisfying for me to shoot. DI
I would be on the phone right away with Bill Dunn. My 60" Zipper SXT recurve is the best bow I have ever shot.
Bill
My Zipper, never shot a better bow in over 40 years,
Without a doubt another Mohawk. :archer:
Big Foot by Kirk Lavender. I've shot his recurve but if I had to get another one, it would be his longbow just for the sake comparision.
PCH, 56", 55#s at 28"
Mohawk, 54# @ 28" 64" bow with juniper limbs
Pretty Centaur Glass bow, carved stippled grip 60" 52@30.
Samick Sage!
Cari-Bow SLynx 49 or 50 pounds
When I stopped crying, I know a place in Little Rock that keeps an assortment of Roy Hall's in stock. I would have to get another Navajo Chief 58" 55-60# @29". Probably Osage Orange and Cocobola?
Chris
Diddo Yellow Dog!! "Pretty Centaur Glass bow, carved stippled grip" ...but 62" and 45# @29" :archer2:
No doubt about it, if all of my bows were stolen, I would order a new Great Northern Critter Gitter.
It would be another MOAB for sure.
I'd have to replace my Brack Quest, but don't think I could stand a 2 year wait. So, I believe I'd get a Dryad ilf rig. Sweet!
Lippe
The ONLY way to go os osage selfbow. I can make what i want and as many as i want for free. You all are missin out. The best bow is the one you make.
I'd have DVShunter make me another self bow.
64" Mohawk "Sparrowhawk" 48@27. Dirty boo limbs with cocobola riser. No doubt.RC
Easy choice. Another Hill Wesly 70" 60 pounds +- @ 30"...why mess with perfection.
J
The one I just ordered a few months back - 58" Kanati, #53 @ 28, w/red overlays and tips.
Probably a toss up with what I have now a Blacktail Elite or Whippenstick Hellfire 55#-60#'s
Black Widow PLX Longbow, Camo...60lbs @28in...
Toelke Chinook! :archer2:
TT Titan riser with dryad epic recurve limbs.
Rose Oak Creations 64" Super Wildcat 53#
Well... Honestly?????
There are alot of GREAT bows out there BUT.....
I'd search the classified for another 1967-69 Bear Grizzly!!!
You just can't beat hunting with a piece of History!!!!! :archer:
It would be the same thing I'm shooting now-Black Widow PSAX Kingwood 60" 49@28.
Mid 70s 58" Bear Super Grizzly in LH 50@28
If I couldn't replace my 1968 Kodiak Hunter with an identical replica (although I have 3 different Kodiak Hunters, 69, 71, 74, as spares), I would consider either an old or new Super Kodiak. Not quite as good as the Hunter (IMHO), but pretty damn close!
Another Hill!! Is there any other bow?
70" Yew and Wenge 55@28" Mahantango longbow.
Had a lot more expenside come and go but the Bob Lee TD is still here.
Bob lee take down for sure.
Howatt Hunter duhh
Another Kanati.
I'd go after the St. Joe river 2 pc take down 50 @ 28"
I'd call Val Sorrentino in Heaven(hypothetical situation, right?)and ask him to make another '62 Kodiak replica like the one he did 20 years ago. Maybe just a bit lighter than that one, but...in any case,I know it'd be the perfect recurve!
56" Shrew Classic Hunter 55#@29.5" with foam/carbon/uniweft/mystery limbs and BowBolt. Not heavy enough for the really big animals, but just about perfection for everything else! Of course, I would buy a dozen or more bows, not just one!
Allan
Lots of great bows out there!
Allan
70" Hill 60@ 29", yew and cocobolo with a black elk wrap.
Reading through this thread really makes one appreciate how may good bowyers there are. I would probably have to find another Robertson Peregrine.
-Jay
Thunderhorn coup stick, 45# @ 28, 60".
Shouldnt be able to ask a question like that. :D
I wantin one of Big Jim's TC's awful bad!!
I believe...I'll have to get back with ya on this one.
Jason
That is easy Crooked Stic Shortbow
Centaur OR a Thunderhorn 2 piece take down, 65#@26"
I haven't shot enough of em to know for sure. That's the down fall of being a lefty.
One I haven't shot before but have on order, a Silvertip recurve, 40 to 42 lbs. at 28, and 60 inches. I want a comfortable weight to reduce wear and tear on the body. And Beth Windauer was very, very helpful answering my questions and providing me with pictures and information.
The "one" bow hasn't been built yet for me! I'd be ashamed to tell all the other bowyers out there that they didn't make the cut today, because they might tomorrow!
Right now I would need 2 bows..one RH and one LH. No hesitation here...Jack Kempf Stealth T/D in RH and Mike Fedora H560 one piece in LH. Hopefully my new Fedora will arrive here in 2 weeks...
Treadway Longbow 56".
I've been giving this some thought. Including the bows I build this is not a decision I could make. There are so many really great bows and bowyers its just not a fair question to ever have to choose just one. I guess I would just have to take what materials I could find and make a bow somehow.
God bless you all, Steve
I'd be looking for another Saxon Longbow, preferably in the American Series and 50# to 60# at 28". I love the way those Saxons shoot and they were built to hunt! Lots of great Bowyers and bows out there.
I am suprised to see that no one but me has posted anything about tomahawks.
Easy, Jack Kempf Raven Recurve.
Hunt Hard,
Randy
A toss up between a Berry Apollo, a Stotler longbow, or a Robertson longbow, but then again I don't want to think about it. My wife has pretty much said I won't be buying any more bows. So if I had to, I bet I would change my mind a bunch of times.
Howard Hill Big Five
Hmmm, I'll get back to you on that one.
I would be looking for another used (or new, perhaps!)Marriah Thermal, 48# at 28". I have two now and man these bows are sweet!
I would stay with a Shrew, plus I am already on the waiting list.
An osage stave and start making shavings.
I second Eric's nomination.
Fox High Sierra, 60", 50@ 28. My absolute favorite.
Stewart three piece slammer 62" 50# @ 27" woods would be whatever Leon wanted.
J D Berry
Northern Mist Whisper. 55# @28", take-down, dished grip.
A 58" Robertson Fatal Styk, #57@28, juniper limbs, cocobolo/bocote riser.
In fact, it should be here tomorrow...
Good thread.
widow PTF.
2 58" PC Toelke whip - 48 lbs@28. It is my fit like a glove bow.
GN bushbow
RER XR Recurve
60"
45Lbs at 28"s....
:notworthy:
I love and have always been loyal to my Widows, but if I was suddenly bowless I would have to get me one of them there Stalker recurves.
MOAB 58" or 60" and 55 @ 28"
64" ACS longbow.
I suppose I'd get a Sasquatch TD longbow...since my number is almost up on Kirk's build list, I wouldn't have to wait long! I'd have Sixby start me another bow, though, because it is a damnable sin to have only one bow.

Hands down it would be a JD Berry Vixen.
KANATI!!
Jason
One just like the one I just got. One of George Perez's (RainyDay Bows)60" recurves.
There are so many great bowyers out there but I've always dealt with Wes Wallace and before is Death Jim Brackenbury. I'd probably go for another Wallace Stealth in the 60-65# range @28.
Black Widow PLX, 66", 58 @ 31"
And that's a fact!
Well that would have to be the ONLY bow I've used for the last decade. Taken alot of game with it. My own home made bow! I'm actually building my own NEW bow design and can't wait to walk up to my first dead critter with another home brew bow in hand! Good feeling! I've got to add IF I CAN DO IT anyone can do it with enough determation.
Im on the list already for a Blacktail so I would stick with that.
Great Northern Super Ghost.
Morrison any one of them I love them all. Would be hard to make that phone. I would be crying to much for Bob to understand me !!
Kanati by Jason Kendall...
I think I would try to get my hand on a Sunset Hill, 68" 60-65#@29 string follow slightly dished grip.... I have a Northern Mist Classic that, so far, I really like. If I can get that Sunset Hill, I will sale all my non Hill style bows(that is a total of 2).
Black Widow PCHX or PSAX
Titan 17" with bf extreme mediums 50#
I've changed my preference.
The Habu is still great but my immediate replacement would be a Trad Tech Titan 2 (17" riser) with BF Extreme Carbon/Foam limbs. This makes a 58" recurve.
The limbs would max out at 50# and be adjustable down to 46.5#s at my 26" draw weight. The bow would have a Strickland springy arrow rest, cat whiskers, and a tied on pair of nock locators at 5/8". My face would wear a smile.
Roy,I really hope you'll loose all of your bows in my stable.LOL
I'd be replacing my Titan 17" riser. As for limbs, I mainly shoot 50lb Samick Universal medium recurve and 50lb TT longbow limbs and they both work so well on that riser, either would be ok
Morrison Shawnee, 43#@28", 60" AMO, carbon/foam limbs, A riser Cocobolo/Osage tricked out.
It would be a black widow KBX 50 /60/28
54" Hoots
I'd be replacing my 62" Silvertip, or the 60" 1pc
Liberty Edge...of course!
I would have to go with a St. Joe River Longbow. 58" somewhere in the 50# at 28". They just seem to fit my hand and send arrows where I am looking.
Eagle Wing Talon LB
I only have one bow now (hoyt buffalo) but if I didn't have that, I think I'd go with a Kanati (58", 48#@28").
Habu VyperKahn LB - if i could find one used - 3yrs is a long wait.....
Nothern Mist Shelton takedown, straight grip, 66'', 56#@28".
Either a 66" Toelke Whip or a 64" Sasquatch recurve. Either one would be 68-70 lb @ 32". Almost had to answer this question for real once, but my Toelke survived the car accident that time.
A. Hill style longbow, 68" and 61@28...
Just bought it a Black Widow MAX 64" 55@30" and now I have to wait.
60" Robertson Fatal Styk
Ok now Felix! I've just posted your picture on the bathroom mirror so if my wife sees you lurking around....! Ha.
(If she starts liking your picture too much though I'm taking it down!)
Northern Mist 68" 60@28 Whisper
Dale Dye Trails End
Good Medicine T/D
60" 60#@28"
Heavy on the Osage in the riser.
Hmmmm, maybe it is time now for another!
another Jason Kendall master peace Kanati or if i could talk him into it a j.k. traditions model
QuoteOriginally posted by mongoose:
Without a doubt, I would buy another Predator Classic- 50#@28" and 60". :notworthy: :campfire:
X2, I like 51lbs, without a doubt is correct!
Bob Lee take down Longbow 64" 57#@28 :)
McCullough "Griffin"longbow.
My JD Berry Apollo
I'd be buying a 62" 65@28 TallTines cocobolo limbs and riser
Caleb
robertson ravenstyk 62" 55@28
Great Northern Lil Creep.
What Ghost Dog said...Jackknifed
I'd get another 62" Liberty Edge, bocote riser and yew core, like the one I just got from Mr. Boice last month. Until that one was finished I'd buy the Contender that Pokerdaddy has listed in the classifieds.
Blacktail Snakebit
64" 48# @ 28", luckily it's already ordered & paid for and will be here in July
Black Widow PSA V Ironwood 62" 56# @31", 8 strand ultracam string, full length heritage 350 with 150 up front
I would be on the phone with Dale Dye having another Medicine Point built!!
Probably play it safe and replace my one pc Hummingbird alpha male. Whippenstick would be tempting also though.
God forbid something ever happens to my Schulz...
If something did, once I recovered from my depression, I'd beg Nate Steen to build me a Sunset Hill identical to my Schulz: 66" 67# @26" backset brown glass & bamboo limbs and a myrtle riser.
If I couldn't get a Sunset Hill I'd have Dave Miller build me a bow to my Schulz's specs.
Fred Bear Take Down
I'de be calling Bob Morrison.
This is a very interesting topic, I've read trough 16 pages & only a hand full of ilf rigs & metal risers. I would have expected to see more, as they were getting pretty hot a year or so ago?
I prefer traditional wood 3 piece recurves myself. Now as for witch one,,, that's tuff with so many great builders.
I'm currently waiting on a Bigfoot from Kirk Lavender! So that better be my answer.
Schafer Silvertip Recurve 60" 48@28
Morrison Cheyenne
Any Treadway would do me just fine!!!
I love all my bows. But as strange as it may sound I would choose my Dorado. It's the one bow I could always pick up and hit the mark no matter how long I neglect it. My other bows take longer to get familiar with again. Who would have thought a production bow could feel like it was custom made for me?
Schafer Silvertip Recurve
Get ahold of Mike Hays in Pueblo and have him build me another 3 piece takedown Black Canyon longbow 64" 58#@28" to replace mine. And then talk him into lending me his one piece in the same specs to pass the time til mine is built. And probably do like Ron W and hit the classifieds.....
Probably, a Hill Wesley Special or Hill Cheetah. Either way, it would be 68" long and draw either 50 or 55#. (I prefer 65# but a shoulder injury just doen't want to completely heal.)
I have two of each of these Hill bows, but I would also consider a Hill Redman with these specs.
Another very strong consideration would be a Northern Mist.
Not sure, but I know it would be built by Gregg Coffey or Steve Turay.
Eric
60", 55-60lbs, TT.
Haven't spent enough time with my 40@28 A&H ACS yet so if I had to answer today, I'd be looking to replace my 92 Widow MA111, 46@28. Always have and always will love that bow.
