Here are some new pics. Let's see what everyone says.
Shot #1 This one is a bit tricky. Since we are sitting at computers and are able to study the shot, I think our reactions are a bit different than if we where in a blind and had watched this buck for a while and have the adreneline flowing. At the computer I say wait, let him turn a bit. Real life I might not notice he is actually quartering too a bit, and let fly. These are the kinds of shots I need to study more and be just a bit more patient.

Shot #2 Definitley shooting here :) The left ear gives a good spot to pick.

I agree #1 you should let him turn just a bit. The rest....let'er rip!!
all three are shots for me, i agree with your dots. if your not out to kill something dont shoot the top one but im out to kill something so im shooting, he looks close enough.
As usual, a great thread! Thank you! as for the shot.... I would pas on #1, I would shoot #2 and #3 like you suggest!!
Ho by the way, it is -42 this morning so I won't be shooting any thing today other than at my bag target in the basement!!!
I agree with your synopsis, but in real life I am probably with Bryant. Right where the white and Brown meet, just down from the white horizontal line.
Like I said, in real life I'm shooting as well. But, I need to be a litle more patient as well :)
That seems to be my problem and has been, the fact that I am lucky to get a shot or two a year, when something gets close I rush the shot. If I'd slow down and be more patient, I'd probably make the few opportunities count. That's just me though.
I would take all 3. 1 angle isn't ideal, but at close range in the field it would be too good to pass for me too.
i kinda lack patients myself more often than not.
I really enjoy these shoot or don't shoot post. Thought provoking and pictures of some very nice animals. Thank you for taking the time, it is appreciated.
#1 is about the limit for a angled on shot, but pull it forward a bit and it is the same vitals as an angled away. The leg and shoulder blade are really quite a bit forward.
#2, spot is good, but I have no need for a dead coon.
#3, I would come back just a bit. The heart sits right above the elbow so I want to come in from behind it. Also, I try not to hit the bone on the opposite leg so I have a better chance at an exit hole.
#1 I might let him turn a little more.
#2 I like your spot but if I was feeling good I might try right between the eyes.
#3 I like your spot.
# 1 let him turn a little more
# 2 I would shoot him right between the eyes.
# 3 I would shoot about an inch lower than you.
1#...man I have sat in a blind for 3 days, I am dehydrated and I just stepped on a prarie rattler on my way to this torture device called a pop-up blind. He is not looking my way. He is in range and has thin bones. If you were on the opposite side of the animal where is your exit? That's where my entrance would be on THIS side. Dead 'Lope. An elk or even a whitetail I would wait, but a 'Lope has thinner bones and a huge set of lungs built for warp speed over several miles.

2# Yep. Except I am on a big buck and his squawlin' when I pop him with this arra is gonna alert everything I am here. So he gets his picture made. That sucker looks familiar :)
3# ALL DAY LONG! Right where you picked brotha. Short trackin' job if you that that spot!
X2 on what Wapiti said.
#1- I would let him take 1 step forward..#2-dead coon!..#3- 2 inches back of yours, I'm hunting with a 50# recurve n don't want to stick the offside shoulder, out a Sharp one thru both lungs and that's a dead lope! Like the thread, thanks for taking the time to do this, real interesting perspectives
Due to my draw length and # I'm shooting that first guy. As for the others I'm following your dots.
Thanks,
Adam
Drop that string.....now
I'd be scared on that last one that he is looking way too much in my direction ... maybe a recipe for string jumping given what I have heard about their reaction time ?
Or am I being over cautious ?
Can't decide,I have to feel my shot.
I'm with you on all of those.
I would shoot on all three. The coon I would probably try to lop his ear off as suggested above. The antelopes...all I know is I don't want those suckers running away. Just behind the shoulder on number 1 and just behind off shoulder for number 3
