What famous or non-famous, Past or present traditional hunter would you like to meet & why?
I have a few tradders I'd like to meet but for starters I'll say Mike Mecredy @ Maddog. Because for one he's in the process of making me a pink custom recurve and for two I would like to talk to him about how he actually started making bows. That's an art like no other to me. The workmanship & time it must take to make just one is amazing to me.
Present - G. Fred Asbell and Steve Turay, and I plan to meet them both next month in McCalla, AL
Past - Howard Hill, Fred Bear and John Schulz (Not sure if Mr. Schulz is still alive or not. If someone knows then please educate me and I will change my post.)
Presant-Ron La Clair and Charlie Lamb
Past- Howard Hill and Ishi,And Fred Bear
I am fairly certain Mr Schulz is still alive and living in my home state.
God bless,Mudd
Bob Lee - can't deny he is among the pioneers!!

I can personally vouch that Bob Barnes is a good person to meet and get to know.
I'd be willing to bet that Buddy Bell would fall into the same category.
God bless,Mudd

Fred Bear, and Paul Schafer for sure... I was lucky in belonging to a club that had Glen St Charles as a Member and got to see him occasionally at shoots and yearly Banquets.
I enjoy seeing and shooting breeze occasionally Steve Gore and Fred Anderson at our shoots.
I'm really looking forward to meeting Gene and Barry along with Mike Mitten for the first time, at the up-coming PBS banquet in March.
Gene
Thumper Dunker !
I think a lot of Tradgangers would enjoy hunting with many of the other tradgangers here. Like values and methods thrown into a setting of a hunting camp makes for a likely match.
I've had the pleasure of being in camp with Ron LaClair and Fred Asbell. Both are fine woodsmen, engaging conversationalists and of course a wealth of traditional archery wisdom/history. They also are both intimately concerned with the promotion and growth of traditional archery. I met Fred Bear one time for a couple of minutes years ago at an archery show in 1980, however it would be a genuine treat to have him in camp at Shrewhaven Lodge for sure.
I'd share a hunting camp with any of the Shrewhaven crew anywhere. They're all fine gentleman, great camp mates and good people.
I'd like to meet the dude that stole one of my tree stands last year. Cut the lock even. Yep, 'd sure like to say hello.
I've gotten to meet many cool people involved in traditional archery over the years. I never met Fred Bear when I was younger, but I met Frank Scott when the museum was still in Gainesville. That was a cool dude to talk to. I bet we shot the breeze for over an hour. I never met Glenn St.Charles, but met several of his clan, including his lovely wife Margaret, who chatted with me for awhile. Got to meet Dr. Grayson, John Rook, Fred Kasch (My daughters both spent time visiting with him at Cloverdale and MOJam)Those are just a handful of people I am glad to have met. There are hundreds more from archery I am glad to call "friend". I could drop names all day. I have also been yodeled awake by Mudd on a few occasions!
About a dozen guys on this site that have become "great" friends over the years!
Bill Langer and his bunch
Charlie Lamb, Bill Langer and RC. There are so many here on Trad Gang I'd like to meet and hunt with but these 3 are a great start.
LOL... I heard that Killinstuff
Pinecone
My great uncles Ray and Frank. I grew up hearing their hunting stories but never got to share deer camp with them.
Fred Bear like most others here.
But to get really trad... Jim Bridger or a few of those guys.
I've meet G Fred. Paul the dwarf, Gene and Berry, Fred Eickler.
so:
Denny and Mrs. Denny
Dan Bertalon
Fred Bear
Howard Hill
Ricky Welch
Byran F.
and
tiffany (I know she's not a trad archer...but...still)
Terry Green,
After he announces me as the winner of this year's Hog hunt!!!!
Fred Bear and Ishi...
1. Fred Bear because I have always admired his adventures.
2. Ishi because I would like to know what it was like to live in the wilderness in the 1800s and 1900s.
I'd LOVE to spend some time sitting around a campfire talking with Uncle Barry, Gene (the Sheppard) Wensel and Roger Rothhaar. I'll buy and grill some nice ribeyes for all three.
Fred Bear......and I'd grill one for him too.
Why ??? Because they have ALL forgotten more than I will probably ever know about hunting white-tail's.
Winterhawk1960
P.S. I set my goals pretty high......huh ???
Me, 25 years ago. I would take myself longbow hunting. Learn to do it right, from the start.
Matt
Past, deffinetly Paul Schafer, without a doubt.
Present, Don Thomas, Nathan Andesohn, Mike Mitten, Fred Eichler.
David Petersen, over a bottle of good bourbon.
No one in particular, but everyone in general.
Joe Skipp and RC! That would suit me right down to the ground.
Jason
i suppose bob munger. fred or glenn would be cool too but bob or maybe ed bilderback would be my choices.
I would like to hunt with Terry Green.
Carl
Past - Fred Bear, Howard Hill, Ben Pearson
Present - Tred Barta, Dale Karch, The Wensel brothers, Denny Sturgis Jr., Byron Ferguson, Terry Green and Rob Distifano
Or course anyone who wouldn't mind putting up with me. So many I've talked to on the phione, e-mail etc. Vermonster, Prairie drifter, Katie, Mudd, Wannabe, Plaigh (admitedly stated would tolerate me) Larry Surtees, to name a few there's more though, I wouldn't mind meetting thge lot of you. Maybe oneday when I get organized enough to show up at Comptons, or K-zoo it may happen.
Whoot - Whoot - I got mentioned, I got mentioned (http://www.sherv.net/cm/emo/dancing/egyptian.gif)
but wait... he say he 'maybe one day' he'll be in K-Zoo... (http://www.smileyvault.com/albums/userpics/12109/smileyvault-cute-big-smiley-animated-011.gif)
Me too, I don't get mentioned too much. I'd like to make it to the big expos, but right now I don't even own a reliable enough car to get out of the county let alone drive to other states. I can't fit everything on my motorbike or I'd take it.
That's a real bummer. I was looking forward to meeting you at the expo after I heard a rumor of you possibly being there.
Maybe I can get some people rounded up to ring bells at local stores & take up a collection to get you here. (probably wouldn't collect but a tanks worth of gas for your motorbike but hey it's a start LOL)
Hope to meet ya one day...
After reading Trailing a Bear, definitely Bob Munger. Of course many of the usual suspects as well, such as Fred Bear, Fred Eichler, Howard Hill, Art Young, G. Fred Asbell (lots of Freds for some reason) and Ron LaClair. Would also like to meet several of the people from the Masters of the Barebow series, including Larry Yien and Rod Jenkins.
While I have only met a few people that are also Tradgang members, I can say I would like to meet a bunch of them; mostly to say thanks for sharing their knowledge, moderating the forums and handling the St. Jude's auction, stories of terrific hunting trips, and pictures of the next generations of trad hunters. I also enjoy hearing from our friends from "Across the Pond" and "Down Under" and would really like to meet a bunch of them. They provide a great reminder that we have more in common than not.
Mike
I would like to meet Chad from Lost Creek Bows. Love the bows I bought from him plus talking to him he seems like the kind of Guy you just like to be around. Mudd would be cool to meet as well. I think many of us would say that. Plenty of other tradgangers as well. Asbells for sure. Rick Welch for sure. I guess I have quite a list.
Terry Green and Rob from Trad Gang
Big R ( Ron Laclair ) , in my opinion Ron is the epitome of trad archery by his life style past and present .
I'd love to share a campfire with Mudd; G. Fred and Teresa Asbell; Ron LaClair; RC; Biggie; the Wensel brothers; "Harl", Frank and all of their Canadian hunting friends. There are many more but not enough space or time to name them all. God Bless you all.
Paul Shafer
Everyone at Bob Lee!
Doug Krueger DK
I think I would like to go bear hunting with Mudd. The pics he posted looked like a great time.
Bob.
I've met a few Trad Gangers, not a cull in the bunch. Camped with two and would dang sure do it again. Only have around twenty thousand to meet before kicking the bucket.
Would have loved to meet Bart Scheyler, got some questions on trapping big cats.
Mike Yancy...met him last year...great guy.
James Parker...talked to him on the phone.
Tim Ott...super prim. bowyer...lives 20 miles from me...hoping to one day.
Fred Bear, Bert Grayson, and Reginald Laubin. Spoke with Bert many times before his passing but never met him in person. Met Dan Quillian who got me back into trad archery in the mid 90's. A Georgia archery legion.
Well I mentioned Mudd, but I forgot to mention I would love to meet Ed Scott. He makes a hell of a bow and is such a genuine person. I would love to meet him, and share a camp one day.
Bob.
I would like to meet Robin Severe, talk hounds and cat hunt'n.
