Hello there, I'm setting up my Tomahawk to shoot 3d. We shoot unmarked distances out to 45-50 yds, so I'm trying to find an arrow that won't be more than 10gpp, otherwise they drop way too much. I'm thinking Beman MFX 600s, but I am open to setup suggestions. Any material is welcome. Thank you very much,
Marco
Marco check the arrow classifieds on the main page, I think there is a set of 600's for sale.
No such luck, they WANT a set of 600s. Thanks!
Consider Gold Tip 35/55, weight tube and you should be fine.
I used 500's at 29 1/2 in. but need about 200 - 250 grs up front to make them tune, there great for hunting.
If you get 600's please let me know how they work for you. Was thinking of trying them myself!
Try Gold Tip 15/35, I have been expermenting with them with my 45# recurve with excellant results.
There are 500s just posted in the classifieds.
The 500s are already gone. But I'm shooting 500s, long, they're still too stiff.
I would look at easton redlines .600 or so
I have a 42# Tomahawk, 64" .I use gold tip 15/35, 28 1/2 long, 125 point. work great, but I;m starting to use wood arrows, i think alot of times they are a "must" "Required" for 3D ? I;m getting them from ALL WOOD ARROW;S , give Brian a call and talk with him.He has matched my Gold tips weight to match his wood arrows for me.
If I were going to set up a bow just for 3D, I would probably use a lighter arrow than 10 gpp. I'm thinking more like 8 gpp. Now if you're gonna use it for hunting as well as 3D, then yeah, go for the 10 gpp.
Thanks, this would be just for 3D. Tomahawk recommends 9-10gpp. I'd go as low as 9, but that's about it.
I wouldn't go wood because of weight.
We're not competing, just shooting among us. And I shoot 3 under so I think I'm out of competing just for that, so no point for wood, probably. Same in Europe, only split for federation shoots, so none for me.
The redlines (what a great shaft, that's the one I shoot from my Titan) has been discontinued last year. Can't get them anymore...
Thanks! Marco
A black 600 Black St. Epic should get you close.
Approx- 9.1 gpp
I can recommend the GT 600 Entradas. I shoot the same weight bow for 3ds and use them. I use a Titan and can go down a good bit in arrow weight but would think you can add point weight, get to the 9 gpp and still keep a good tune with those arrows and playin a bit with arrow length.
GT1535 will fly nice and be faily light. I use 50 gr inserts and 125 gr points and they will shoot from my 42# bow to 45# and even 50# bows. I shoot 3555 out of the 50# bows usually though.
Fomula for smoke:
Black 600 Black St. Epic
~30" length
145 grain tip
Approx- 9.1 gpp
SBD Ultra Six strand
I use Easton Flatlines .500s. 6.5gpi super fast.Just make sure your bow will shoot light arrows.
Here's what I ordered:
Carbon Tech Whitetail Shafts 25/45 .650 cut at 30.5 (similar to the Epic ST)
125 gr points
10 strand d97 string (may move to the 6 SBD)
Gives me about 8.5gpp (OK per 3 Rivers tech support)
I will let you all know.
Thanks!
Best of luck!
Try to keep in mind to leave them a little long.
Let us know how your proposed set-up turns out.
I did use the T. O. from 3 River on a 40# & now a 34#
Just started using easton st. epic 600 fused carbons, and they come in at 6.4 gpi untipped(i have 100 gr. field points on them). They go like rockets off a 40# acs 3pc. Recommend them to anyone doing 3d with lighter bows!
Good luck
