Sitka spruce makes a great arrow, tougher than POC, but is also lighter in mass weight. It is the most consistent arrow wood in mass weight that I have used, maybe only 50 gr spread in a spine group. The lighter weight shaft lends itself well to using heavier points, a good thing IMO. Hildebrand is the best source I know of but don't know if they sell by thousands either.
Surewood fir is currently my preferred shafting.
Not much experience with the KK pine.
I had some of the "German Pine" shafts that KK had. Worked well. Seems they only had a limited supply of them though. Good luck.
I got 2dz from KK at Comptons they fly great
gonna get more at the Kzoo expo.
Thanks
I've used sitka spruce. It makes a good arrow, but if you hit a stump or rock, that's it. I made a dozen a few months ago and I'm down to 3 now. They fly great, but they just aren't tough enough for me. For comparison I bought a dozen ash shafts over 2 years ago and I still have 6 of those...
My friend bought both the german pine and german spruce from KK. His comment was the spruce flies better. I just ordered 4 dz from KK and would like to try making footed arrow in hope to make them tougher.
