Title: Organizational skills
Post by: Cyclic-Rivers on January 15, 2012, 02:31:00 PM
How do you keep all your "stuff" organized?

Now we all have seen bow/arrow racks.

I am talking about tips, nocks, and glue and everything else.......

I was thinking about getting a big Tacklebox I would like to hear or see other suggestions.

I use a medium tackle box (need a bigger one) and just try to keep everything else nearby.

You can kinda see it in this pic...

I have quite a few of the Plano plastic fishing tackle organizer trays that I keep all of those things in.

That looks suspiciously like my leather working bench. What's wrong with that?

I get the cheap plastic draws and plastic shoe boxes at Wally World. The shoe box works great for broadheads, fill with foam.

I went to Harbor Freight and got two different boxes one is 24" long and 3" deep and 4" wide,it has seperators(I took them out) and I store feathers in it. The other is a front face opening type with 5 small storage trays(that have lids) and all the nocks, heads, glue, and razor blades ect. go in these. The top opens and has a medium deep storage for other stuff. The whole box id about 12" high 8" wide by 5" across. Bothe boxes can fit in any gearbag for a road trip. Total cost was under $25.00

Organization? you mean like the wife finding field points in her jewelry box? Hope she never brushes her teeth with my fletch-tite! Seriously I usually can put my hands on what I need but I wouldn't want to put a pic of my tackle box up for public viewing.

I shove it all in my corner of the closet. Cept the broadheads, they're locked up to keep it away from the kid.

Charlie-here is where I store some of my trad gear! I hope to make a new bow rack here this winter and get better at organizing all my gear! Great thread! Thanks!

A buddy gave me a big tackle box with lots of drawers and moveable dividers with a fold open top. Just had to clean all the melted rubber worms out of it but it works great. When I go moose hunting I toss it in the truck and am set for anything from fixing arrows to making and serving strings.

I'm a firm believer in the sign that reads, "A neat desk is a sign of a sick mind!"

I bought me a 12'x24' out building and am in the process of finishing the inside. I have all my mounts in it, and built a workbench to work on my bows, arrows, etc.. I keep everything on my bench, and have what I need to take with me in a tool box that I can pick up and carry.

Believe me fellas, it doesn't always look that neat!

I just happened to clean up the shop the other day.

It's a one bay garage that's a taxidermy shop/archery shop/storage unit/"Mr. fix it" shop/etc...

Believe, it gets ugly in there at times    :scared:

"Organizational skills"

Could somebody please explain this concept?   :knothead:

Thanks guys for the suggestions.

Curt, That's just down right impressive.  I could probably build an area in my basement, which I should but think there is a tad too much moisture down there and I am too cheap for a humidifier.

Keep the pictures and ideas flowing!

It might sound like over kill but I use the top tool chest of craftsman combo tool chest.I got the idea from the archery dept in bass pro.It has thirteen drawers and labeled for organization.I put all the cool sticker you get from the little things you buy that come with stickers.

You folks who try to organize are missing out on a great opportunity. Everytime I rummage through the pile of gear on my bench I find something I didn't remember putting there in the 1st place. It's like Christmas every few days.

Very impressive Curt.  I use the large  plastic storage boxes with dividers that you can add or remove as needed.  I also have an old boat builders tool chest that allows me to store the larger items and the storage box.

Of course there are arrows piled behind a chair in the den, and I have to move my fletching gear around in a canvas bag to wherever I will be working.  But I am working at it.

Home Depot and others sell large size organizers, stacker trays, boxes, storage units and cabinets with shelves.  You might be surprised to see some of the organizers they stock at craft and sewing stores. Stanley makes some nice flat storage systems for screws, nails etc. that work nice for points, nocks, glue etc.

Curt,
Is that a "Daushound" or as we know em "Hot Dog" form hanging upside down in your garage? You ain't like that Taxidermy Dude that mounts dead pets are ya?

I'm on my third tackle box which is actually a Stanley tool box which $/sq. in. is way cheaper than a fishing tackle box and then I keep everything in Plano clear boxes. But yesterday I found five 175 field points and an Ace hex head in the cushions of my "football" chair, so although I'm approaching perfection, I may have a ways to go yet. But I like the tackle box idea because I can carry everything including a Bitz with me.

No, I've been asked in the past to do pets...but that's not my thing....it's a Fisher(some call them Fisher cats) form.

I've been using a big Plano tackle box, with a large single compartment on top, and 6 of the pull out trays that snap closed, one was great but have now managed to fill up two. Todd

I try and keep everything toghter and orginized. Top  3 drawers are for arrow  building, bottom 3 are knives, odd and ends. Arrow shafts are in the white box ( 9 dozen) then a sharpening box, and the list goes on !
