I was just wondering if you have your name put on a custom bow when you order one. I have 2 that I have ordered in the past with my name on them. Does this cause a problem when selling the bow. I have one ordered and need to let the bowyer know in the next few days. Thanks
I think its a matter of choice. I would by a bow with anothers name on it and add mine to it,kinda creates a documented history of it over time and owners.
No name on something I will get rid of later...
Easier to sell with no name.
I don't have my name on any of my bows but I have a used JD Berry Yaweh with the original owners name on it. Its kind of weird using someone elses bow, but its kind of neat too. I wonder who he was every time I go out with it. Was he a good hunter? Would he like it that his bow was my therapy bow after my lung surgery? I think he probably would. Maybe I should have my name added under his.
Ordered some with and some without. Selling with name has not been a problem. Buying with another's name-no problem.
i have lots of bows with other names on em,one had shot two caribou and two elk, good mojo in my book.
Personally I do not care if a name has someone else's name on it and I have never noticed a bow with a name shoots any differently.
I get my name on them but then when I buy I also plan to keep them. Some day they will get handed down to younger family.
If I bought used then I would prefer no name but not sure it would stop the deal if it did have another name on it. So far only bought one used and had no name on it.
I do like the idea of adding your name if it already has a name on it.

This is exactly what I think.Being a collector is very nice to know how many people handled a bow!
I always put my name or something personal on it.
As far as buying a bow with someone else's name on it...I LOVE it! Love to find out the stories behind the bow, and it gives me someone to search for.
Its not about the money when it comes to TRAD. Its about the adventures. Put your name on the bow and be PROUD! Someone will want to know your story!
Thanks for the input. Talked to Brian few minutes ago and he is putting my name on it. Plan on keeping it. Didn't know it at the time but said it was same woods in riser and limbs as Barry Wensels. Can't wait to get it. Thanks
having someones name on a bow for sale i wouldn't blink an eye.i don't understand why it would bother anyone..
gonetocamp,I wish you to be successful as Barry too, with that bow!
I've started just putting my initials. You can always come up for a clever acronym for 2 or 3 initials!
I sold a few bows over the years and interesting enough met two guys so far at bow events that actually had a bow with my name on it. Kind of neat.

The way I usually shoot my name should have been
Walter
Thomas
Franklin. That way your approach would work perfectly for me! :goldtooth:
If i see a bow i like and want to buy. It wouldn't make any difference if there was a name on it.
that's funny...im putting "SOL" on mine Scott Oneal Langston
I bought a used bow with a name already on it----from "Longbowben"------didn't have to change a thing! :bigsmyl:
My bows are named.....but not my name. They each mean something to me,for differnt reasons.
my most used bows are serenity..a horn combo hunter....it is a coppy of my passed shooting partner's bow (Dave how i miss you).
The other is a Dwyre defiant the Dwyer named M'bogo,it is dark...and can kill anything.
In short my name never goes on a bow,it has no place being there. The bow it self is the one that needs a name.
I like to put something on my bow to make it mine other than my own name. I like to name them. The one I am shooting now is named "LUCKEY".
My wife made the bowyer put "The last toy" on mine.. HAHA!!!! what a lie that was...
i have a bob lee with my name and the year "2000" on it...i plan on keeping...
Name on a bow does not bother me, however I would not have a bow with snake skins on it.
John
depends on the name,, whats a personal bow with one of the Wensekls name on it worth as compared to Joe Blow,
I was going to put my name on then heard of a Navy Lacrosse play and Navy Seal who lost his life in Afgan.. so I put his name on... something to make me remember his sacrifice.
Names wouldn't deter me cept "Nancy Pelosi"!

I had the serial #10 Schafer ever built by Paul himself. Made for Paul Brunner. After Paul Schafer's untimely death, I gave it to Dave Windauer to display. I could have sold it for big $$$. Years later a friend of mine's husband had a bad bout with cancer. Dave and Beth auctioned the bow and gave the proceeds to my friend's family.
Who cares who's name is on it when it comes to money? Trad is about a huge family we have. Lets all enjoy and belong without having a dollar sign attached to anything.
I don't buy custom bows with the thought of selling them later. My bows have both my name and my Trad Gang handle on them. I have no intention of ever parting with them and hope to be shooting them 'til the end.
Ron V ole buddy, I bet after meeting you they quickly sanded your name off! LOL

I don't put a name "just in case" I decide to sell later. I know I personally don't like to buy a bow with another name on it...don't really know why either. Plus, I never found it to be that great a thrill.
One of my best shooters I got from a buddy it has his name on it . I think its pretty cool.
I have had my name put on a couple. I am not sure about the re-sale on that. One is still on my bow rack and the other sold easily a few years back..
As far as buying one with a name......... There are many guys here and elsewhere that I admire. I feel priviledged to be using a bow they also hunted with. That their name is on it only adds to the feeling of sharing a hunt with them. I feel satisfaction knowing that our choice in bows is so close.. Bows I got from Thomas Burns, Bob Walker, and "Froggy" come to mine immediately...
The bows I have from those guys will be here a long time, even if I may be shooting others on the rack more frequently.. To me the sad part is a couple of them don't have their names on them.

My name is on a couple. I didn't ask for my name on one -- didn't realize it was standard for the bowyer.
Frankly, if I decide I don't want a bow, it is much more difficult for me to part with it if it has my name on it. For some reason it feels too personal, like selling an arm or finger or two?
I have a Widow right now with my name and favorite slogan, "On Target for Life", that I would probably have traded (for Greybark PA) if it were not for these personalizations.
I've bought a couple with other names on them, it doesn't matter and I don't even ask. As I typed this I thought that it would be cool to have my best friend's name on a bow, in a phrase, "What Would Jim Do?" Never realized what that acronym would represent before.
I don't do that anymore. Some people don't want a name on a bow they buy used. If I could keep them all it wouldn't bother me! On my custom knives that I build I do etch guys names into the blade on request. Some want it and some don't. Different strokes as they say.
