Trad Gang

There doesn't seem to be very much national TV coverage of traditional bowhunting these days so I wanted to mention this for those interested. Mossy Oak TV is airing a new show called "Inside The Obsession". The initial show will feature the Wensel brothers. It will air on the Pursuit Channel, which I'm told is DIRECTV channel 608 and DISH Network channel 240. Scheduled times will be Friday (day after tomorrow) at 10 AM; Saturday at 12 AM (midnight); and Sunday at 9 PM. It's a little scary for Gene and I since we didn't get to see what they put together. But they've done a great job in the past. I'm sure Mossy Oak would appreciate any positive feedback on their efforts. If they get enough great comments they might consider highlighting more traditional bowhunters and shows in the future. As they say... stay tuned. Thanks. BW

Is it only on the puruit channel or will it be on the outdoor or sportsman channels as well. I have cable that doesn,t offer pursuit.

I was just informed the Pursuit channel has it listed at 12:30 PM on Friday, the rest are the same. The times I posted were given to me by Mossy Oak themselves but I assume the Pursuit channel will broadcast it whenever they want. Thanks. BW

I swear the DVR is the greatest thing ever happened to tv.  My schedule has it for thrursday night at 10:00 central time.

Feeling a bit old school, dish and DVR are not in my vocab:)

I just Googled The Pursuit Channel and went to "shows". It is in the line up. It says you can watch the episodes there but I couldn't get one to play. If someone else tries it please let us know how it goes.

I set my DVR on my dish to record Friday while I'm at work.  I did have to search for the new time (11:30 CT).  I really wish we'd see more traditional archery on tv.

Ok folks this is where we as a trad community needs to wait till it's aired and then FLOOD I mean FLOOD their email box full of I wanta see more of this. IF enough of us take the time to contact them and let them know they are headed in the right direction I guarantee you they will listen. IF you don't you got no reason to gripe about the constant horrible shows that are on the outdoor air ways now adays! JMHO

Barry,like you I don't know what is going on. The Pursuit Channel shows no listings nor time schedules for any Mossy Oak show and that is on Direct TV friday or saturday.

I had plans to run home after work and watch the show.  Hopefully the sportsman's channel gets their act together.

I was duped into watching an outdoor edge infomercial featuring some bozo who was thrilled with a bad shot on a nice buck.

We just did a search for Inside the Obsession, and set it to record that show. I hope it isn't screwed up. I don't like the new guide Direct just started yesterday. Took forever to bring it up.

Direct TV schedule has "Inside the Obsession" scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Pacific standard time...so we'll know in an hour or so.

My Direct TV guide says 10:30am and 10:00pm here in CO with another showing on Sunday evening at 7:00pm...

If I am reading the program info correctly, it has nothing to do with hunting with the traditional bow. It appears that it is about the people at Mossy Oak and people who have been on their 30 minute informercials. This is of no interest to me. Show me some quality traditional bowhunting that doesn't have a commercial every two minutes.

Just finished watching the Mossy Oak show with the Wensels.  Excellent program.  

Showed the twins hunting in Texas, and also at their old Cottonwoods operation.

The best part were interviews done with both Gene and Barry, where they explained their outlook on hunting and the outdoors.

This show gave an great impression of Traditional bowhunting!

Just watched the show, makes me proud that we have people like the Wensels to show and promote what we love to do, had some good laughs too. Thanks Barry and Gene, You both done Good  :thumbsup:

Just watched it. The Direrct TV program info was not correct. It was a great show. You did us proud Brothers. Congrats your TV stars     :scared:

Simply outstanding...but a 60 minutes show would have been better.  ;)

The program wasn't anything like I thought it was going to be based on the program guide info. The Wensel's are outstanding in every respect. I particularly like their hunting philosophy and how the history of these views have unfolded during thier lives. I'm several years older than the Wensel's and can relate to the historical changes they discuss in the interviews. And what is most interesting is how much we change in the process of moving forward and the role hunting has played in our growth as people. It would be great if the Wensel's could have an hour traditional bowhunting program on television with reduced commercialism,but I know the cost of such an endeavor would require funding from some source and that would require commercials. That's the side of this game that I have difficulty with, but also see the importance of these businesses in selling their products. Just wish there was a happy medium somewhere (wishful thinking).

WHEW!!! What a relief knowing it came out like it did and has been well received so far. I appreciate all the positive comments. Thanks folks. I think Cuz Strickland deserves a round of applause for a great editing job putting this together. Knowing he worked with some old footage/quotes from many years ago was a little scary. Cuz has been an absolute pleasure to work and hunt with over the years. He's as good as they come in the commercial hunting industry. I really do think it'd be a great gesture for fellow bowhunters to contact Mossy Oak/ Ronnie Strickland with words of appreciation and encouragement for the job they did promoting traditional bowhunting in such a positive light. I must admit it was a breath of fresh air compared to a lot of the "hyper" hunting shows on TV these days. You could even detect a difference in the music and script that accompanied the program. Excellent! Although I've learned you won't please everyone I think Mossy Oak and especially Cuz did an outstanding job. Thanks. BW

Enjoyed the show but it needed to be much more than a 30 minute segment.  Had the pleasure of hunting with the W-bros a couple of times in the late 1990s.

Great show Barry and Gene! It showed a very positive side to traditional bowhunting.The show did you all proud.

Just finished watching myself. Turned out great! I have to say I knew if "Cuz" was involved along with the twins it had to be good and I wasn't dissappointed! Two thumbs up! Now got to email Mossy Oak and tell them "thats what I want to watch on TV"

I was fortunate enough to catch this show. Only problem was it was too short. Everything Barry and Gene say is right on the mark. Its great to see REAL bowhunters on tv. Not just killers....but true hunters. It would be nice to see more of these brothers.

I'm with the ones that said the Wensels should have their own show. That would be great.

Just finished watching it Barry. You and Gene did a great job! This one show will do a lot to promote traditional bowhunting. You fellas are great ambassadors for our way of doing it and we congratulate you. You guys need to get into show business. Hope all this movie makin'don't mean you are gonna start associatin' with a higher class of guys and gals?   :D

This is what a hunting show should be, Gene and Barry you guys are great. A true inspiration to those of us in the traditional bowhunting world. Thank You.

I'm stuck with Sportsman Channel and Outdoor Channel, too.  Other than an occasional Eichler show, I don't see too much trad hunting on TV.  Anyone know of any other shows on Outdoor or Sportsman's?

Yep, it's on the Pursuit Channel website. Click on shows at the top. It'll bring up a list of all shows, find and click on Inside the Obsession. Then click on watch shows.

I talked to "Cuz" this morning, again, as always, he said they get the highest ratings with the Wensels that they get all year. That being the case, you'd think they'd show more trad stuff? Or is it Wensel stuff?
