Title: Monday's Where to shoot?
Post by: steadman on January 09, 2012, 11:15:00 AM
Here we go with the new week. I hope everyone had a great weekend.
First shot, first small game shot. Can you even see it? Ha you still have to pick a spot, if you don't you'll surely miss. Thanks for the photo's Tim

Here's the spot I look at, and I'm gonna concentrate hard  :)

Here's shot #2 for the day.
Again a dream hunt! And no it's not pen raised the DWR uses ear tags to monitor sheep in transplanted herds.

Her's my shot. After looking at it, I might look a bit lower though.

I belive on the Tweety bird I would choose a spot just a bit lower. Give myself a little room ha ha.

One the ram I am thinking that he is quartering a little so I am going to come off that shoulder about two inches and look for the off side leg. Also just because I want to stay off the big bones if I have the option.

I would let Tweety get out of the rocks; pretty tough on arrows!

Birds aren't that tough so I'm OK with that shot. The ram, I think I would come back just a bit off that shoulder. Sheep are frigg'n cool!

Some places when they are broomed curl doesn't matter.

Any of the pics that I put up are legal for our fictional hunt, your bow is adequate, your at full draw. This is just a pick your spot thread to help folks learn and to break up the mid winter "is this bow better or do two blade broadheads work threads". FYI here in UT that ram is legal. Now pick a spot!!

I agree with the bird shot but I would drop down about 2 inches on the Ram and come back another 2 inches.  I think he is slightly quartering and I would try to stay away from that shoulder.

Man, you and those tight shots! Speaking too tight...it is all or nothin' on that tweety for me, head shot. Same with turkies (aka demons from hades with wings)...prob why I haven't killed one yet. I get the feeling this is a remote hunt. I better have some of those footed 55/75s you sold me 'cause they are bombproof!

As for the ram...full-curl or not it is a trophy. same height as you but 3 inches to the rear. Now for my shot you'd have to be careful with that ewe behind him (maybe it's a raghorn ram). If she/he is not clear for that middle of the lunger I'd wait and let him take a couple more steps and shoot him through the last rib.

That's just where I aim on grouse and almost always hit a tad high, right in the neck. And yup that's an arrow breaker for sure. It's been hard, but I've stopped worrying about rocks.

I'd back up just a tad on the sheep, 2x Crash.

These thread are a lot of fun!

I say no sense in hitting too close to the shoulder, pull it back juyst a tad.

I would also try and wait a little for the ewe behind him to move.  But I wouldn't wait THAT LONG!

I like the shot on the bird but I would probably pick the top of the dark crease behind the shoulder just so I had a good spot to concentrate on.

On the ram back 2" and down 3". Same spot you have on the bird and pray a don't start a fire.
