I have mostly been using parabolics for my arrows, but lately I've been wanting to try something different. I got wondering what are yo opinions on the quietest fletch was?
From listening just with my ears, when it comes to a 5" length feather, my vote is for a parabolic shaped feather.
I will say this. I've never shot a 5" banana shaped feather.
Parabolic! But I like the looks of shield cut better. Freind of mine shoots banana but I still think parabolic are the quietest.

i shoot 4 4" parabolic I think they are the quietest while still haveing alot of feather an i think they fly better in a cross wind..the banana 5" to me make alot of noise when shot a few times.."but most do the same after the tips get fuzzy

I shoot shields but parabolics are a little quieter. Have not had any animals jump or flinch.
4" Parabolic flys the quiet for me.
As mentioned Parabolics are quieter, and I shoot some. But sheild cut are quiet as long as they are not high backs.I also have a burner and cut my own shapes to,its the tail height that makes the noise if im correct.
I like parabolic's for I think they are quieter. But I feel thre height of the feather has more to do with noise.I had some high back 5.5" parabolic that was fairly noisy too.
Great info fellas, I appreciate your posts. I agree with the statements about height of the fletch.
There was a LOT of discussion and mild testing of this topic in ealier days on TradGang. Some of the test results were very interesting.

Maybe I'm way off, but until an arrow passes the speed of sound, an animal will always hear the arrow before it feels it. That being said, I hardly notice any noise from my 5 3/8" banana burn. Shields are nice as well. The only time there is any noticeable noise is when the feather is mangled or missing a piece or two.

Stand (safely) down range, like around the corner of your house, as someone shoots arrows into a target beyond you. You can hear em coming yup.

i think the high backs make more noise, standard profile is pretty quiet anyway you go.
