Title: Predator bows?
Post by: mellonhead on January 08, 2012, 11:30:00 AM
I am in the market for a new bow.  I have shot a longbow for about 4 years now and was thinking about getting a new recurve.  I was looking at the Predator bows and was wondering what you guys think of them?  Good or bad!!!!  Thanks.

Toby

I had one in my shop for a couple weeks and 2 things come to mind: Smooth and Fast.

Some have a love it or hate it feeling towards the grip, I didnt like it at first since I am use to a smaller longbow grip but I got use to it after a couple days and it felt as natural as can be.

Mine has been referred to as a "plank" due to the weightiness of the riser and they were a longbow only shooter so yes, it will seem heavy if all you shoot is longbows. Once tuned it shoots great off the shelf with woods or carbons. I did not like the rest materials that came with it and opted for the Bear hair and leather plate on mine. And BTW, if you get the less expensive black glass limbs, you can add snakeskins later, looks great.

Mellonhead, I bought a predator hunter a few months ago. Asked Hunters Niche to make me an old school version, solid bubinga riser, with black limbs. Mike at HN said 6-8 weeks and the bow came in 6. Bow is 46@28. I draw 27.7. Shoot 2016 Legacys 3-4" feathers, cut to 29.5, I shoot cock feather up. Arrows are matched perfectly as per the Stu Miller Calculater. I must say it's may favorite bow, smooth, fast, great shooter. I final know what it means to shoot where you look. I've always heard people say the grip is too meaty. Well, I have a med hand and a find the grip to be perfect. Puts your hand right under the arrow. All around great bow.

Good luck. PM me if you want more info.

Mellonhead, one other thing. Bow shoots better without a bow quiver for me. Riser is just a tad heavy so I switched from a Great Northern bolt on model to a CatQuiver. No looking back!

I've had two of them. They are great bows. Like Jason said, smooth and fast.
