Title: Consistent Nock Kick to Right on Properly Spined Arrows? Need Help.
Post by: JJB2 on January 07, 2012, 12:28:00 PM
I've bareshafted these arrows, and both the fletched and unflecthed arrows group together.  Broadheads and fieldpoints fly the same. Bow is 55# at 28", arrows are Easton FMJ 400's, cut to 29 1/4" with 100 grn brass adapter and 175 grn point.

A few months ago I had these same arrows, both fletched (with fp's and bh's) and unfletched flying through paper like bullet holes.  Now I'm getting a consistent nock kick to the right with the fletched arrows and the bareshaft fly nock right but are hitting the target where intended and grouping with the fletched shafts.

After experimenting with a wide range of point weights and brace height changes I've come to the conclusion that the arrows are spined properly and that it must be a form or bow set-up issue.  I've tried tinkering around with the strike plate and shelf material but to no avail...same d@mn kick to the right.

Any suggestions would really be appreciated.  I'm pretty frustrated at this point.

Might be your release.

I'm with Pat B on this one!  If a couple months ago the arrows were flying well and now they aren't, AND you have checked the only two possible variables nock height and brace height then SOMETHING in your form/release HAS changed.  The arrows certainly didn't change.

Look to your form and go back to basics to fix.

Make sure your getting back tension when you draw.
A couple of months ago I went through the same thing
I messed with everything I could think of finally I realized I was not getting back tension, when I got that right arrows straighten up and flew perfect.

Happens a lot late in the season.  Cold weather and lack of practice give us shorter draws and stiffer arrows.  Used to happen to me every year in Washington.

Thanks guys.  That's what I've been thinking - form/release.  I'm scheduled to take Rick Welch's class in late March so it'll be good to have someone that can better evaluate what's going on with my form looking over my shoulder for a few days.

I think I'm gonna take a week off and come back at it with a fresh head and muscles.  Season's over for me until Spring turkey so I have nothing but time.

if this was shooting perfect before then
its your release OR your torquing..

1st thing is draw the bow back with the string barely on your fingers where it feels like its going to slip off at any second,  b sure you hit full draw and let it fly.

I agree with the above posts,, did you recently start wearing a heavy coat? if your not hitting full draw perfectly or your creeping before the shot then your pretty much  short drawing which will stiffen the spine of theb arrow causing a Nock Right for a righty..

if its a dramatic nock right I say torquing though,,, and I know this sounds stupid but be sure theres no breeze blowing the nock to the right because wind will play head games with you.

Having the string out on your finger tips can cause tail right.  May seem counterintuitive, but try making sure you get a good, deep hook.  Also try rotating nocks for improved shelf clearance.

I chased a very similar issue while bare shafting Traditional Only's for my Savannah the other day. I switched from a glove to a nice calf-hair finger tab and BOOM...perfectly tuned. I should start checking the operator whenever I have issues with anything from now on...would save me some time and money.
