Title: Moab dilema
Post by: katman on January 06, 2012, 07:59:00 AM
I have a Moab on order with Jim and am on the fence with limb lams, quilted maple stained walnut or curly anigre stained cherry. Riser will be cocobolo. Found just a couple pics with these limbs using search.

Anyone have any handy pics of these lamination's? Close up pics of riser/grip would also be nice, thanks.

Laminations or veneers-- what are the limb cores?

My dad has the quilted maple limbs I believe, possibly even with the cocobolo riser. He has some pics up somewhere on the website, but if you PM him he may send you more.

toxophilitepastor is his name here

Jim does a really great job of matching limb colors with risers-- as I recall, he sent me several samples of dyed veneers to help me decide which one.

Thanks guys, it is veneers and bamboo is the core.
Any pics of the bocote veneers?

longbowben, yours is the only one I found of curly anigre cherry stain, looks mighty fine. Thinking that might be better with cocobolo than the maple, and Jim feels it is easier to work accepting adhesive.

Don't think Jim does Bocote Veneers... To expensive for what he charges.

I've got Curly Anigre veneers on my heavier MOAB and Quilted Maple on my lighter one.  Both are excellent, but the Quilted Maple is flat out stunning!

I hear you bowhunter4life, hence my dilemma. Currently have the order with quilted maple stained walnut and may just leave it at that but the curly anigre is so nice also. What riser woods do you have?

Maybe a second Moab if this one works out will be in the cards.

With the Curly Anigre I've got an Osage riser with Bocote flare, and Osage veneer on the belly of the bow.

The Quilted Maple is front and back with Bubinga riser and Bocote flare.  They both have Moose horn tips and the Quilted Maple bow has Moose horn overlays on the back of the riser also... Had to work on Jim a bit to get those!

Yea John, your not allowed to use that bow as an example. Only line bows, not the SPECIAL ones.  :bigsmyl:

When I emailed pics of a couple of bows to Jim he told me he does not do the horn overlay anymore, just tips. That is a true beauty and special bow autumn archer.

Here's one of my MOAB's that I believe to be quilted Maple.  (I was wrong.  They're Tamo Ash)  The sky was overcast that day.  In the sun they're a lot brighter.
