I had a very good year. Two Mich. 8 points. so I am looking to make some deer lure out of the testicals.I need to find some tonquin musk. Any help would be great. Thanks
I'm not sure testicles have any value in lure but look up trapping supply companies like MTP for lure ingredients. You can't find real tonquin musk any more and you couldn't afford it if you did. What is sold now is imitation but is supposed to work fairly well.
I found huntmdown is a good source for lure ingredients. Use SPARINGLY! Have fun and good luck!
I would think the tarsal glands would provide a better base for homemade scent. Testicles are not designed to give off odor. Your marking scents, breeding scents are contained in the tarsal glands. Good luck in your quest.
Lure is made from urine and glands.
Good advice from JimB.

I thought testicles were just for making soup!
Smokey Mountain Oysters. :biglaugh:
Tarsal Glands for lure scents.
They are not soup for me-nor lure. Most scent glands will get better with age when handled properly.Testicles are just going to rot and be rotten mush.
I don't know much about deer lure recipes but tarsal glands, interdigital, possibly lachrymal glands and urine are used.
Testicles are for the "Testicle Festival".I won't be attending.
I used testicles , as described by a lure maker, for a buck lure. It was the only scent I had a positive reaction from a buck with this year. When you "prepare" them you make a tincture that extracts the lure/scent. You don't just cut them out and hang them up! :D :p
I've also read about using testicals for buck lure, from a trapper named Johnny Thorpe.
Check wildlifecontrolsupplies.com , if they don't have it, Alan should be able to point you in the right direction.
I think it might have been Johnny Thorpe's video that I watched!
You'll go blind messing with those.
GH, you know that is a complete fib.
You will, however, grow hair on your palms.

That's my Killie!!!!! Ha :wavey:
Maybe if he just does it till he needs glasses?!
This Johnny Thorpe has 50 years experience in lure and scent attractant making. And he was inducted into the National Trappers Hall of Fame in the early 90's for a lifetime of remarkable trapping achievements. I haven't tried my hand at lure making but this guy seems like the real deal.
Donald is this the same fellow you got the ingredients for the buck lure from?
Thanks for all the in put. I am going to make some homemade lure to see how it goes. And I did get the dvd on how to make the lure from Johnny Thorpe as he is the real deal. Thanks
