Title: Ture Center Taper Tool
Post by: DesertDude on January 04, 2012, 08:52:00 AM
Do you need a "Sanding type" taper tool to work with Doug Fir shafts? Will the True Center work with Doug Fir?

Thanks,

Mark

Mark it will work. Might not be as clean as a sander but it will work. Sharp blades work the best.

I noticed that with any hand tapering tool the shafts tend to get eaten up and do not cut as smooth as cedars do. I just use sand paperwhen I get done using the hand tapers to smooth out the roughness. I will be getting a sanding jig for my nect batch of fir. But you should do the footing like you do with the other arrows I saw you make...LOL JMHO

Desert Dude,

I shoot doug fir exclusively and use two different taper tools....the tru center seems to dull quickly and start "chunking" the taper....but the taper tool that Kustom King sells from Germany is the bomb.........it's about 20 bucks or so, I think it's called the Bearpaw.......

Very smooth sharp cut tapers.........way too easy.

I usually shoot sitka spruce but a friend uses fir and we have found the Bearpaw taper tool to be a much greater value than trucenter. I bought it from Kustom King and use it exclusively now.
