Lets do a picture thread for 2012 to remember those first for us in trad bowhunting. Sometimes those old photos can be inspiring and just really cool to look at and enjoy the memory of the past adventure. Share as much as you can about the past hunt: equipment, special circumstances, etc.
A scrapbook thread of the #1's. First rabbit, buck, doe, bear, etc. Lets of course, keep this trad related boys and girls...
#1 deer circa 1995: My first deer with any weapon. Taken on the ground still hunting. Mason, Texas. 21st century shedua longbow (Bud & Jim bow, man I miss those fellas building bows), cedar arrow (Drumbstick), wolverine BH. Max Drumb that taught me to shoot longbows gave me the "Robin Hood" hat and told me to take a picture with it when I shot a deer. I think it was from the Howard Hill Longbow company.

#2 First buck 1996
Elburg jaguar longbow. Mason, Texas. Shot from a tripod-boatseat stand backed into a cedar that was only about 5 ft tall. I shot him with a borrowed 2213 and a zwickey head. We were practicing in camp and I broke a wood arrow and sent the shaft and fletch into the web of my hand. Chris in camp let me borrow his extra arrows and I shot him the next am. One of the best shot I have made on a game animal.

First buck with trad bow, 1997. Black Widow MAB Recurve:

I'll play. First Trad buck 1988

Dragonheart, is that a welders cap in pic #2?
I was a pipeline welder and wore caps like that, that came hand made from Salitpa, Alabama. Had some made from Trebark camo.
You betcha. My dad was a welder for many years. I worked in machine shop/welding before moving into other areas to make a living. Those caps are awesome for bowhunting. You can pull them down so the critter cannot see your predator eyes, but you can still stay focussed. Don't really know why I got away from them. See these old photos remind us of things that work.
My 1st bear which was also my 1st trad kill. I was a young teenager and killed him with a Mamba and home made cedars (http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu178/ryanderlago/1sttradbear.jpg). It was also my first hunt ever with a trad bow.(1989)
That same year (1989) I shot my 1st trad buck which ended up being my 1st P&Y buck. Same bow with aluminums.
Here is a "First" for me. (1997) This is my first animal taken with traditional equipment. I shot him at 20yds with a palmer recurve and a 2016 aluminum arow.
Bisch
And here is a more recent "First". (9/12/11) This is my first (and only) alligator with any weapon. I shot him with a Bob Lee recurve 52@29, a couple of fiberglass bowfishing arrows, and several 55/75 Gold Tips with GK Silverflame broadheads. He was 11'1" and weighed 390#.

BTW: 9 year old had a bad dream, hence posting at 2:13 in the am!
My first trad kill was 32 years ago. It was a frog I shot in a pond in a gravel pit. Used a Ben Pearson Jet bow(red fiberglass) and a cheap hardware store wood arrow with a crimp on tip.Sorry no picture, cameras were off limits to us kids, just to expensive for us to play with. And I did bag a big coon last year in my underwear at 4am eating my trash, also no pic was to tired.
Great pics guys and there is a thread called old duffers were young one to that has some great old pics. Ron Le Clair started a while ago.
TTT
My first deer with a bow I made (2010).
68" straight limbed Hill style longbow, Cherry/bamboo limbs, Walnut riser, 54# @ 28"
Douglas fir arrows, Magnus heads.

Great looking bow and trophy
Anybody else got a FIRST to share?
lpcjon2, Why was there a big coon in your underware at 4am, eating trash so late at night????LOL!
My first deer with a bow and only so far was in 2006 when I was 12.
Shot it with my Black Widow PSR III 54@30 so it was more around 40 at my draw length back then and an Easton Legacy with a Bear Razorhead broad head.

Schafer
(http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b58/Hallstead/image009.jpg)
First traditional animal with a pic taken, shared a camp with Fred Asbell. He just happened to be close by, helped me track & took the pic. Pretty special at the time. Last day in quebec, no migration to speak of, shot at a trot, 37 paces in desperation. Took out the top of the heart, as luck would have it. Bigriver flatbow, 54lbs, home made cedars, magnus 4 blade.
Big river: That is a cool story about Fred Asbell in camp. What a hunt and experience! Would like to meet and visit with him someday. Great shot on the bou!
Schafer- that is a smile of accomplishment right there! Another will come your way.
Thanks for posting.
I just picked up a trad bow this October and I managed to kill my first buck with it in December.

Firsts?
All my first's are in a box, the old film pics, and I have no clue how to scan and do all that stuff.
Cool pics!
Nice gator! Sweet! I wonder why it doesn't weigh 700-900 pounds like all the 11' er's the swamp people get on tv?
I didn't carry my Polaroid around...(if they were invented yet..might not have been come to think of it)..back in the late 50's or early 60's..(can't remember that either).. when I killed my first deer with recurve. Anyhow, these are the first two I killed since back from over 40yr layoff with recurve. Got them last season.

First buck was in 1966 when I was 16, killed him with a Ben Pearson cougar recurve. Did not own a camera back then. I then spent a year overseas as my dad worked in the oilfields in Libya. Went to college for a couple of years and joined the Navy, spent 21 years searving my country, still shot bows but did not get much hunting in until I retired in 1993.
First pig on Guam, about 2001 if I remember correctly.
