i just picked up a Moultrie M80. the case and rubber gasket look very weather proof but i was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to farther weather proof a trail cam?
M-80 is a great little camera(I have one), and it should be just fine whatever nature throws at it.
If anything, a little "roof" over it on the tree will keep some snow from piling up on it, and off the lense somewhat....
Curt,
what is the longest length of time you have left yours out? thanks for the roof tip.
The anti theft boxes that they sell protect the cameras pretty well also.
I just got an M80 for Xmas and deployed on its maiden voyage today. Seems like a great camera for the money. It is sealed very well. As insurance from theft I have the metal lockbox on it. I think between the enclosure and lockbox it is very well protected from weather.
just put mine out today too. there is a BIG 10 point by my house that everyone in the county has saw but me and i hope to get him on the trail cam! i do not hunt by my house as i do not like field hunting but sure would like to "kill" him with the trail cam!
Check the seals on the rim. I only use a rope seal on all mine
Also, sorb it packets help a bunch for condensation.
The best I've seen, but it ain't pretty, is to cut pieces of inner tube and stretch around the seal.
