Today was picture perfect weather and I was very happy to be able to spend this evening in the woods.
About 45 minutes before dark I crawled up in a live oak and made myself comfortable. Thirty minutes later I saw a pair of 8 point bucks cruise by. I had seen them both earlier and passed them. Seemed like the thing to do again!
They hadn't been gone too long when I saw this import looking pig coming my way. I slowly reached over and pulled the Sparrowhawk off the peg I had it hanging on. If he gave me a chance this pig was NOT going to get the same pass the deer had. It looked like he was going to be broadside at about 15 yards but as he got to one of my shooting
lanes he was angling away slightly which I thought was perfect. I was already focused on the spot I wanted to hit and not long after hitting my anchor the arrow was away.
This old male was pretty tough and I only got about 18 inches of penetration but it hit exactly where I was looking. He squealed and took off but he was running slowly; obviously running out of gas almost immediately. He managed to make a 40 yard dash and went down in sight..
I was using a Zwickey No Mercy on the end of a Beman 500. The Sparrowhawk is 45 @ 28 and I draw 29 and a bit..

Wow. great hog And a great shot your 45#bow got the job done.
Wow! 45 lbs. you must have slid in behind the gristle plate. That should take up a lot of room in your freezer.
Way to go....congrats...
Congratulations on another hog, I think you have the pig gettin down good.
What did it weigh? It is hard to tell its size with the angle of the picture.
Great job on that fine tusker!
Nice pig Pat and love your Hawk
Pat's hunts are so special to read.
Again, great job!
That is one heck of a pig. Congrats!
Jason
Good job Pat, that shot looks perfect.
Nice Hog, Nice Bow, Nice Shot!!
And just think of all the threads asking if 45lbs is enough.....wow.....that is one nice hog Pat. Congrats
When I set him up to get a picture his body settled quite a bit.
The arrow hit about a third of the way up from his bottom line and angling forward. The old pig was deep and thick so I expect he weighed fairly good; I don't have a scale but wouldn't be surprised if he shaded 250 #.
I've proven to myself that 45# is adequate for deer and pigs. I'd much rather have an accurate hit from a 45 pounder than a marginal hit from a heavy bow. When I was a bit younger I shot bows with nearly double the poundage and surely enjoyed their performance.. Due to some hand injuries and neck problems I've come down to the 45-50 pound bows.
Accurate arrow placement and razor sharp broadheads makes for clean quick kills.
What a beast!
Wow! That's a lot of bacon! Congrats on a monster hog. Very nice shooting.
Dave

Even on a hog that big, eighteen inches is pretty deep. Obviously, deep enough! Very exciting, thanks for sharing. Heading to Ray Hammonds in about 3 weeks. You have motivated me to take my Mohawk!

The Sparrahawk does it again...those TX hogs are tremblin' at the sound of the 'Hawk in flight!
Shoot straight, Shinken
:archer2:
I was guessing on the amount of penetration.. My arrows are 31" and it looked like a foot or so hanging out.. The broadhead must have tickled him in the right spot!
Thanks all, pig stickin' is great fun!
